A Sequitor - nuance

I used the word nuance to describe the singing of J E.   In the movie " Diner " set in Baltimore. the guy played by Paul Reiser determines that " nuance is not a real word " as in what is a nuance really. Also starring are Daniel Stern, Tim Daly, Kevin Bacon, Ellen Burstyn and ..... ( I'll think of him later , I'm sure )
