I may have gone over the top in re: mom's dental situation
The in-house doctor at TLC, said - yes, sedate your Mom, I don't see a problem
? if three roots get pulled and you can't go any further - we'll adjust her diet, several residents have no teeth
Therefore, its do what you can, we can adjust at our end ( TLC )

OMG - ITIaG
Oh My God - If There Is a God
Along the lines of " God save my soul if I have a soul "
I think that I read:
Rockefeller Centre has a Xmas tree. Get this - the tree survived Sandy, so they cut it down for NY. Irony or ..... I don't know
Palestinians want state status at the UN , they'll probably get it.
Israel, Canada and the Big Dog ( or god ) the US doesn't want this to happen.
B/c this is how Israel started. And you know what happened, then.
Our Royal Bank of Canada set records for income in the last quarter. Surprise Canadian non mortgage debt is setting records too !

Appearances
Re-read, yesterday's blog. I need to tell you, it was an unmitigated disaster.
The dental staff were so patient w/ Mom.
There is a visiting mobile dentist that comes to the nursing home ( TLC - Trilogy Longterm Care ). I thought that it would be better than taking Mom out to the dentist.
Something about the ' road to hell and good intentions '.
When ' mr fill in dentist ' heard about the regular mobile visits, he started shaking his head. The overall oral deterioration that he saw made him distraught.
I read the mobile dentist reports and the mobi - dentists saw some potential problems but did not recommend any action.
Now, the thought of taking Mom out to a dentist is still a daunting prospect.
Stay tuned, this ought to be worth the wait.
weather is no change - maybe less sun - air is still or stiller than
I hope you not saying ' been there , done that ' b/c that would have been horrible.

Don't look now....
you missed the boat. or something
Denture day. first ,we get to the denture place - Sir, this is a bridge. Oops, need to see the dentist.
We call the dentist and - we can see you in about 15 minutes.
The bridge has been destroyed - its been broken twice. Thus it fell out.
At the dentist, Mom won't open her mouth. She doesn't know what you are asking.
We take one x-ray, the dentist holding the digital scanner in his hand.
Mom won't hold still w/ the scanner in her mouth.
Not good, two roots and a part tooth need removing on the top.
On the bottom, no x-ray, b/c Mom was biting my fingers while I tried to hold the scanner ( my turn ) several teeth should be extracted.
This is getting better and better.
After discussing possibilities and of course , impossibilities, the fill in dentist ( Mom's former dentist is on holiday ) suggests we wait til the real dentist comes back.
We are no further ahead but we now know part of the score.
Guesstimating $ 10 K all in. And 6 visits to the dentist and denturist ( only if we get lucky, will it be the denturist ).
I actually asked the question - what if we do nothing ?
The dentist nodded his head and said - I understand
So, I goofed by not doing something right away. But the ' fill in dentist '( love that, fill in dentist, neat, eh ) would have suggested waiting for ' mr real ' dentist anyway.
And I'm a genius. Taking the helper was brilliant. Gelan helped all the way. We get back to the nursing home and Gelan takes Mom straight to the dining room for lunch.
Did I tell you our mayor is about a wink away from getting impeached for misappropriate conduct. Mayor Ford has 12 days to ask for a stay of sentence or review of the decision.
weather cold but spots of bright not uncomfortable really
I told a friend that I was looking for an unlocked phone for the States. He got in an accident prior to our trip to Vegas, the phone was locked in his car in the impoundment lot. We bought the Tracfone in Vegas but he gave me the i-phone anyway.
The i-phone has 20 apps ( of which I'll use 2 ). I'm learning how to work it. Stuff slides all over the screen and I almost can turn it on.
It has Blu tooth and WiFi ready.
More later, once I make it work.
This i-phone, the first, cost $500 in the States from an Apple Store.

Post Grey
Corrections : Attendance at the Grey Cup was 53 K
The Toronto Argonauts ( are there any American Argonauts ? ) won the GC, in pretty decisive fashion. in poker commentary they would use ' dominated ' to describe the win.
Two present Canadian idols Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepson bopped and whatever else they do on the stage at centre field. I turned the channel as I felt a diabetes attack coming on or a saccharin overdose.
A long ago star, Gordon Lightfoot, did good.
To-morrow, Mom goes the denturist. This means that I go too. I had the ElderCare people send mom's helper early, so that Gelan comes with us to the denture place.
Getting mom back in the nursing home is always interesting. She doesn't know where she is and needs to be cajoled into entering the TLC.
Probably, this event sounds trivial to you. Its all that I've thought about for 12 days. It will most likely go OK but.......
We are grey ( weather and Cup ) cold but warmer by 3 F things than the week-end. BTW, the garden is whitish on the high spots. sort of frosting looking.
Xmas shopping is on the agenda for to-day. Hopefully, the whole world isn't thinking the same way. In a survey, 85 % of interviewees claimed to be finished shopping.
One lady said ' Thats what January is for ' Oops ! I may be a little late

Earl Grey, tea and cups
The first part of this blog may contain untruths.
To-day, 2 Canadian football teams vie for the Grey Cup. The GC is emblematic of the Canadian football championship. This Earl Grey also got a tea blend named after him ( which is way more famous )
The numbers : attendees 50 thousand , viewers 3 - 5 million , purse - likely 400 thousand.
Our league the CFL runs on a totally different scale than the NFL.
An ex- American college player and NFL-er, holds the professional record for most yards passing and the large bulk of the yds were gained in Canada ( Warren Moon ).
We'll watch for sure. Our team the Argos are playing the Calgary Stampeders.
To-day is no warmer but drearier for sure.
Oh, BTW, a movie review. I watched ' the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel ' both ways on the Vegas flights. If you're a follower ( all 3 of you ) you'll know it would not be uncommon for me to re-watch a movie. However, in my defence the sound was so poor through the audio system on the plane, I wanted to listen to the dialogue.
IMHO ( this means I am a whore--- no it doesn't, In My Humble Opinion ) tBEMH is what movies should be. The cast is a collage of some of the best supporting actors in England and also Dame Judi Dench.
One example is Bill Nighy. I'm sure BN has been known for a long time but I've just noticed him in the last 3 or 4 years. In one scene, BN stands and listens - I thought he even stands acting.
Go see it. If you don't enjoy it , blame me.
I think its always better to blame someone else. its never true but we all feel better when its not our fault.
BTW - we were on a Canadian plane flying over U.S. air space and far enough from the border that the satellite system was out of range.
The company let us watch pay TV for free.
I passed up ' Dark Knight, some kids thingy and saw a bit about two CIA dudes using espionage to get a girl to like them '. The last is why you shouldn't go to the movies. As they say at the tables, Craps.

Shoes too small
A young French writer ( 10 or 12 yrs old ) was asked ' will you keep writing novels, when you are 30 or 40 yrs old.
Her reply ' thats the trouble with grown ups - wanting to last and wanting things that last. Only two things last, shoes too small and foolishness. '
I've never had too small shoes ( at least I can't remember ). In Vegas, my last act was to put a pair of shoes in the trash.
The shoes are / were Redwings, a well known maker of safety shoes and equipment.
The REDS were 2E wide and very comfortable. Bought in 1980, they have been a good buy. This past week in Vegas, we walked up the strip, two times in 2 days. My toe pads on the outside balls of my feet were aching.
Changed shoes to my runners and stayed in runners the balance of the trip. Feet got better and I was comfortable the rest of the trip.
So, 32 year old shoes were left behind in Vegas.
This confirms that famous saying ' what dies in Vegas, stays in Vegas '
M was flabbergasted. I guess that she didn't realize that I'd had the shoes our whole marriage. And she had trouble believing that I would throw away anything. Apparently, I tend to keep things - maybe a little too long.
Therefore, not small shoes but perhaps a little foolishness. Can't win 'em all.
To-day, we try for normal. No craps, no drinking all day ( 3 Sam Adams, Boston Lager for sure )
Last night though, we ate Mc Donalds and I drank a Sam Adams at home. Shades of Vegas.
Day is bright and cool, 34 of those F things. Wind is brisk.
Last night flying in to T.O., the winds bumped and shook the plane, gusting to 55 KPM according to Capt Rick or Nick.

McC....... and heading home
We're sitting in McCarran airport, waiting on the bl / wh jet to take us home.
We left money all over Vegas
gave up on the shuttle - I won't cuss them out here b/c they don't care. Got a taxi to McC
Now, usually, security is a bottleneck. No, it was the ' Speed ' check in machines at McC for WestJet ( No. thats the name of the machine service ' Speed ' , ha, be wary of the single HA ).
The curb-side machine broke down for the couple ahead of us. We went inside - please use the automated check in machine - nope twice. Attendant comes over - just use your passport for ID.
OK 2 boarding passes - 1 luggage label, then out of paper. Go to baggage drop off - my board froze, folks. Attendant, 2 over, prints the luggage tag.
Security, very fast
We bought a throw- away cell phone. This tracfone is an LG. you're supposed to get same charge for local, national and international w/ surcharges for certain countries.
We set up the phone w/ a 60 minute card and 90 day expiry. Read the destructions after - why not - to discover all minutes double for any Tracfone minutes card. The cheapie card was 30 min and 30 day expiry.
For 1 year cards at $99 , you get 600 min and the yr to use the min.s. Our Trac fone ( $ 19 ) is down to 108 min from 130 m
Tracfone charges even on the help line.
Long distance calls sound like the other person is underwater
long distance requires a call to a 1-800 # and then dial
For the set-up - everything is computer voice over the land line phone. I had to choose a zip code. I gave them the zip for St Pte Bch.
And got assigned a 727 area code which is St Pte Bch. Neat.
Except it sounds as though the charges would be the same for any area code in the U.S.
Oh ,well, at least anyone calling our phone in St Pte can call a local # and no long distance
This past week, LV, has been 10 degrees above seasonal and will stay there next week after a little drop for 2 days.
Apparently,we don't ' slot ' enough to get anything compted. Oh, well we take the 2 free days.
I wanted to write advice for you. but since I don't even listen to me . Why should you.
OK. Talking to the ether. When your up - walk away. This morning, went to fire the cubes around. Fun. I was up $60 or so and said lets make it a 100. Nooooo, got down to $ 50 and left 80 dollars late and lite.
Salmon and bagel is a dynamite breakfast. they served it along with capers and tomatoes w/ onion slices
RU still listening
Pina coladas are dessert and have no calories b/c they're white and foamy.

from LV, Nev
Sin City, USA
Sun flew in to brilliant sunshine and 70 F
And it never changed
Whines : played this dice machine that says it Craps. It is. i can't make a go of it. i'm down $90 at machine craps
The shuttle service ( $ 13 round trip to the hotel ) left us waiting 1 1/2h at the airport
along w/ 38 others. i heard the curb manager counting
Smiles
live craps is fun
we are right at home here at Treasure island or TI as they want to market themselves
we still have money and it will probably hold out til to-morrow
I'm sitting here at Starbucks for the free WiFi ( $ 18 / day at TI )
I always tip good here. they are friendly and let me sit. Neat
To-day is TD day so happy Thanksgiving, to all but 'tom ' who gets done real good
Macy's is advertising -closed to-day but open at midnight or 12 am
Canadians are getting warnings about Black Friday sales over the net. Caveat emptor
The schedule - there isn't one
but I'll wander up to Casino Royale and fire the cubes around a bit
brekkies and then see what happens

Reprise
Re-read yesterday's blog. What a whiney and sorry excuse for a blog.
TOUGH that isn't half of what I felt ( or said )
faucet working great, BTW.
OK nice things. On YouTube, I often call up singers etc that I've heard on TV. the sound quality on the computer is 3X the quality of the TV.
My recommendation is Renee Fleming ( soprano ) w/ YoYo Ma singing ' Touch the Hand of Love ' Sublime.
then while scanning the selections on the YouTube, ' Blossom Dearie ' is there w/ a picture a little girl.
Cute, right.
So. I click on the name.
Blossom Dearie wrote the song TtHoL w/ lyrics by Mahriah Blackwolf.
I listen to the track - she is fantastic. of course , she wrote it but still.....
BD died in 2009 at age 70 something
Who knew.
Other recommends on youTube
Jackie Evanko
Charlotte Church
Amy Mcdonald
Dame Kiri Tekanewa singing " Songs of the Auvergne " arr by Canteloube
Weather is bright but cool ( 39 of those F things ) and still

In This World
In Buddhism, we approach Life w/ the belief that life is ' dukha ' or suffering.
My back is cramping. Pourquoi you ask.
I spent the afternoon reaching up under the sink uninstalling the faucet and re-installing its replacement.
2 blogs, ago, kitchen faucet is spurting. Long story, new cartridge, success.
Thurs PM - yepper, another gusher
Fri - early at the HomeDepot. " oh you need a washer kit " this no charge ( remember Moen )
Washers don't fit
Back to the Depot ( Harry and I recognize each other on sight ) " oh , grease the rings and put them on, they get distorted through use "
No way, Jose..... something about an elephant through the eye of a needle.
Back to the depot ( take the old washers ) ' those aren't Moen washers Swear curse swear.
But. I've got the barrel of the faucet " oh thats a Moen "
Buy a bleeding faucet, couldn't stand the agro.
Thus its 3 hrs looking and reaching under the sink.
The lunacy - I'm on line looking at an ' Adler ' faucet diagram ( thats my new model ). its the diagram I've been using to repair the old faucet.
Part way through trying to figure out how to take out the old faucet - I realize - the internet diagram has a newer cartridge but the same fittings that I'm taking out from under the sink.
I'm keeping all the destructions that came w/ the 'new' faucet.
Alright its done. My back is done.
And, last night playing cards, I get a call from home. " the nursing home called about your mother's dentures "
Call the nursing home. " They found your mother's dentures in her food on her plate ". I said ' at least they're not broken '
The reply ' yes , that s right ".
Now we know. The dentures are damaged.
OMG. So nice , communicating in English.
Spent the morning, phone to the dentist ( their phone system is on the fritz and only takes messages and doesn't ring in the office )
Phone to Denture Clinic.
Going back and forth to Home Depot.
Excedrin headache # 109 and counting
Dukha. dukha dukha

Whats in Your Water
Situation. You're in charge of the town's water supply.
You notice water consumption is falling.
People are buying bottled water, slush things and Gatorade.
Solution. Add sugar to the town's water supply.
Result. Water consumption soars. Patrons buy take out food and go home to drink tapwater.
How much sugar are we talking about ? Approx. 4 tablespoons per glass.
Diabetics should confine themselves to 4 glasses of water of day
OMG. This town is in Texas.
Weather was beuti. Sunny and cool.
BTW The same faucet is spurting again. No Mr Fixit award here. back to You Tube.

Everyone but me
has a mistress. Where do they grow them, is it like apples on a tree ????
Good ol' CIA Petraeus, had them coming and going.
Must be standard isssue - gun, badge & lady not your wife
Disaster, go for a glass of water, water is firing out from the faucet base in the kitchen. I spin the handle to tighten the sucker... nope.
Finally, go to YouTube, and mr fixit will show you how
After much finagling ( thats politically correct for what came out of mouth ) got down to the stem and cartridge
Cartridge is stuck in there like ......
Go to HomeDepot, 10 minutes to find an ' assoicate ' but..... knew how to help. Take the cartridge to the cash register...not on file. Go back to the associate... cartridge is free. FREE, holey kamoley , batman - FREE
Get home, he was right. Cartridge is out in 2 ticks ( that means no swearing ) and bob's your uncle.
Feel like a genius. which is bloody rare.
So genius but no mistress
Ah heck, probably couldn't afford one, they must be expensive. And I don't lie well enough to cover it up
Weather is cold 36 F and going no higher, to-day. O/cast to boot

What You Should know...
.... or not
Last week at the QMH, things went bump in the night... literally. Heard a noise and figured, ah, wind ( in the willows )
Getting ready to leave, I notice the baseboard heater is off the wall. Bump.
Turns out the installer chap ( not moi ) used 2 screws straight into the drywall. It didn't hold.
So, I'm there both holding the heater up and trying to put in screws. The aperture would take 2 fingers. Swear ,cuss swear, trust me they heard the noise in Schenectady.
I couldn't hold the screw on the screwdriver in the small space.
I went to wall anchors that are self screwing and I had bought hex head screws that sit on the nut driver much better than other screws.
Tada, finito - don't count the first 45 min.
Now, bear in mind that I've had those hex heads for 2 years and the nut driver set for 1 1/2 yrs. But at QMH, things like falling heaters are going to happen.
Did I tell you about this before... oh hell, maybe you forgot too.
Or you can compare stories to see if it sounds the same... sort of like when they interrogate spies. Say, as in " Tinker, Tailor... ' there's a sequitor for you.
The weather brought to you by you neighbourhood financial consultant ( who is desperately trying to stay in business ) B/c really no one is in an investing mood.
Warm w/ showers and rain, heavy at times, thunder but rapidly cooling now and overcast.
It was sunny this morning

Make You Cry
Jesus Wept, apparently, so did Barack.
Rumour says the weeping and gnashing hasn't started yet. There's a fiscal cliff and a sizeable mountain and Death Valley approaching.
( hey, I'm loving this ) There's an asteroid coming, the sky is falling
( oooo, I'm good at this ) A bottomless pit
The Mother of All debacles. and I've got a coffee cup w/ Obama on it. The cup isn't too big or fiscal either.
Martha Stewart, Chairman and head honcho of the MSE ( Martha Stewart Empire actually MSOL ) is losing money and associated businesses, left and right. Talk about a fiscal cliff, ( see, I'm really good at this )
On the topic of ' having fun '. This house is going to Vegas.
We called Casino Marketing and they started w/ the first two nights free ( bloody buggers, you know that I was hooked right there ) 2 forty dollar nights and 1 76 dollar night. 5 nights for $160.
Airfare well , the airline offered 20 % off, this means we keep our first born but airfare still tops $ 1200 for both.
Something comes to mind about ' beggars not choosing '
So, I need to review, the DVD - Shooting Craps and WINNING ! or some such , so that I can look Joe Pro for the pit crews at the crap tables.
I can only think of one time that I regretted being in Vegas. Thats when I lost $ 110 back to back in one day. Then I won $80 and felt better. If you got that thats $220 ' stuck ' ( means losing in Vegas, and everywhere else actually, doesn't take a genius to work that phraseology out.) and good for 80. Sounds dumb but you'd probably feel the same.
So, basically ,we're off to find fun, it seems.
Remember 'what dies in Vegas, stays in Vegas ' hey did I get that wrong or something

Girls Jus Wanna Have Fun or
Happened again.
I'm watching the 'Sandals Resort ' commercial, as the couple jet skis, snorkels holding hands and soaking in a wading pool or something.
Asking : Do I know how to have fun ?
Do I have fun ?

Lies , Part Lies and Elections and Confessions
I'm willing to admit that I could have missed it b/c I do often skim the news and sure don't listen carefully to the candidates when they're speaking.
Yesterday, on PBS , a panel was addressing the U.S. elections , specifically, I caught the part about what the candidates face when elected.
For both both Romney and Obama, the issue is how to tell the American people that they are down sizing the civil service. The numbers thrown around were 15 % minimum and maybe 25. The panel wasn't sure how much but were positive that it will be done. That's across the board, cuts.
The result is expected to be a down turn in the economy and another ( or same one ) depression.
Do the reporters and questioners ignore this reality. I mean it wasn't as if Romney will down size government as a Republican but Obama will need to do this for the American economy to survive.
Maybe its b/c they'll both have to do it and everybody knows , did you ?
The Republicans are tossing around numbers like 300 electoral college votes for them.
I'm flabbergasted. In Toronto on a radio talk show the Mayor ( Rob Ford ) and his brother, Doug were asked to predict the U.S. election. The Mayor , chose Obama, Doug picked Romney and called his brother , a lefty.
These guys are both so far right its incredible... lefty OMG.
Around the house , here, well the patio furniture went to the lower patio under the deck ( for extra protection ). Our furniture is wood b/c I won't buy plastic or metal.
The hoses came in and I drained the pipes to the outside.
Not everyone does this, I worry the pipes will freeze in the outside walls. To be truthful, i can't give you one example where someone said this freezing has happened but it seems logical, that it could.
It is cold and dreary but we're supposed to get partial clearing and sun. the week end coming should be 60 s.
Here's the confesion part. Saturday, I was mostly watching the Alabama - LSU football game. 'Bama was undefeated and LSU ( 1 loss ) and 1 st place in the division was at stake.
Ala was leading but LSU came on strong and took a lead. W/ 3 minutes left LSU had the ball and the lead. I figured it was over and turned the station , not wanting to see Les Miles gloating and the purple people screaming.
Blew it big time. Ala came back and scored.
Apologies to the Tide from a faint of heart fan.
Mea Culpa , Maxima Mea Culpa.
ROLL TIDE ( even w/out me )

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier......
Borrowed the BBC production of TTSS, from a neighbour.
This vidoe is somewhat dated and stars Alec Guiness, plus a whole lot of people who became household names in the U.K. .
I saw the modern ( Gary Oldham ) version. both were way better than average for what passes as good movie going fare.
The modern too slick and the older ( AG ) too slow and...
My problem is / was I listen to ' Smiley's People ' the sequel to TTSS w/ John LeCarre narrating.
The voice is everything, on the audio tape , of course, but I've created a George Smiley in my mind. Along w/ the other characters common to both TTSS & SP.
Alec Guiness is superb but too forceful or confident and Gary Oldham not chubby enough.
SP features an older George and longer out of service or re-service. George has been let go in TTSS and re-hired to babysit the 'Circus ' and then let go in the new ' re-deployment '. George is brought back in SP, to capture ' Karla '.
Weather is dull w/ a promise of sun ( ???? yeah, waiting )
sometime to-day.
M hosted a girls' afternoon lunch and cards. These girls are high school friends. The aft went swimmingly w/ smiling faces.
This week-end is odd for me b/c I am in transition from fishing mode to peacetime ( or whatever , its called when I'm not fishing ). I'm finding chores to do.

By Now....
... most of you are thinking that I was bluffing about stopping at 300 posts. No, but this is still fun.
In the GTA, this week, we managed to kill 3 and wound 12 in car related incidents. Several hit and runs, plus others where the driver stopped to admire his or her work.
The explanation is as follows. Around the time change in the fall, there is an increase in traffic accidents involving pedestrians. The week prior to and the week following time change are higher than usual but the week of the time change is a big bump up. Those 3 weeks, are triple the corresponding average.
The experts say:
1. changing light conditions and earlier sunsets affect the drivers ability to see
2. hoods are up ( people not the cars ) and pedestrians are less able to hear approaching cars.
3. road conditions are getting slick from leaves and rain
Oh boy, and here I thought drivers were aiming their cars a little better so got a higher success rates.
In the GWN for you southerners, an Ipsos Reid poll ( I don't know what that means but they say it every time ), shows support for ' Bronch ' Obama is 84 %.
( the ' Bronch ' label comes from the viral You Tube video of the whiney little girl, complaining of the massive media coverage in her state )
And I didn't know ... that there is almost nil big budget advertising in states such as NY b/c of expense and the tendency for the votes to split even. ( I think that's why )
Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Pennsylvania get way more money b/c these states are seen as swing states.
One politico, interviewed on CBC TV said Obama and Romney have been to Ohio so often, ' You'd think they were running for a senate seat in Ohio '
On the 'West Wing' re-run this week, Josh Lyman may have lost the advantage for Bartlet in Pa / Oh / Mi , by blowing an anti-smoking law suit decision.
M feels Bartlet ( Martin Sheen ) would have made a great president, for real. But I warned her the Republicans are still the Republicans and would act the same way, like they do now.
Apparently, our house is more Democrat than Republican.
We want to send you Stephen Harper ( our Prime Minster ) but it wouldn't be fair. He'd cock it up in the States just like here. He's an equal opportunity kinda of guy, he can't help it. And he's ignorant in two languages unfortunately, one of them is not Spanish.
BTW, he plays piano and sings, don't you want him ?
Imagine a ' musical White House ' sounds ' Christmassy ' .
doesn't it ?
OMG, did this rant turn political. Mea culpa, Mea culpa as my Buddhist friends say.

Read the instructions last or ......
I've been whinging ( that's the Br version of whining ) about the short battery cycle of the e-machine laptop we use.
I went to the e-machines website, searching for info on 'Windows, Starter 7 ' ( the operating system that came w/ the laptop ). However, in the FAQ section, I found out .......
Apparently, letting the battery run right down, shortens battery life. I'm not sure if the 10 or 15 % level is ' right down ' but from what I read , probably not good. There is an automatic warning that pops up at 15 % batt. remaining.
Now, maybe that explains all those people plugged in at Starbucks.
I'm going to try charging after every second use for about 4 times and see if the battery bounces back.
Being plugged in is a pain but not impossible the way we use the laptop..
Oops, right, read the 'destruction ' manual afterwards, classic.
On ' Starter 7 ' , consensus, its inadequate.
Cons : won't run a DVD ( or does so poorly )
no colour background or limited background
does not run games very well
None of these items applies to me. Our machine doesn't even have a DVD / CD slot.
We have a portable typewriter that is internet capable, to quote John Gary, the singer from the '70s
" this is all I ask, This is all I need "
The poor people on the e-machine website's message board.
They sounded as if their first born had been taken away from them.
We're still seeing and marvelling at the damage and loss suffered in the NE U.S. ( and Canada ) via Trop strm Sandy.
Again, the global warming advocates, or agents provocateur are pointing to global warming.
OK. my take on the whole thing.
Is the earth's atmosphere warming ? Yes.
Is the warming due to human influence ? Most likely.
What does this mean? Who knows
The history of the earth shows cyclic warming and cooling.
These trends occur over tens of thousands of years.
If they plot, the current temperature rise on the timeline of the earth's existence, I'm not even sure, it would be a blip.
It could grow to a blip if the temperature rises more or longer.
Reduce, re-use , recycle ? Of course, its a no brainer. but not b/c you're going to die.
Greener energy ? Yes, except that usually the components of ' greener ' energy - structures etc are mostly, industrial ' Titanics ' - requiring massive amounts of energy and material.
Energy input always exceeds energy gain. So, our real slogan should be ' Lets WASTE our ENERGY, WISELY '
I once asked a contractor about storing rainwater not in a barrel but in undegorund cisterns. his reply " sure but water is so cheap, who would do it ?
" Aha, not whats good but looks to be good or cheap for now. "
thats the motto of our world

In the News
In the northern part of GTA ( Toronto and everything associated w/ Toronto ) a woman was struck by maybe 2 cars as she stood on the yellow line in the middle of the street.
Witnesses claim that cars drove around the body ( paramedics pronounced her dead ) for several minutes.
This is not good.
Well Barrack is on the campaign trail again. Apparently, he performed very well, supporting the people of the Nor- East.
And he was damming water and not Mitt ' the glove '.
Halloween happened in NY on schedule but in NJ a bill was passed shifitng Halloween to next Monday.
Our house had approx 30 trickertreaters. An anecdote :
two siblings came to the door, the girl of 8 was obviously in charge. Desmond ( very small, I mean his bucket was 1/2 his size ) looks at what I gave him and turns to his sister. " What did the man give me ? " holding up a bag of ' M& M s '.
Reply " Desmond its Ok its just ' Smarties ' in a bag not a box, come on "
Desmond " What did the man give me ? " Desmond wasn't accepting second rate " Smarties ' for sure. Desmond kept looking at me as he walked down the drive.
That'll teach us, to give out second rate treats.
M is tuning up her new cell phone. These gadgets are truly meant for young people. M wanted a ' QWERTY ' key board for texting. Neither of us can text w/out our reading glasses. W/ my reading glasses, the letters are hard to see. Guess I'll be getting the new phone from M. We have an older cell phone ( Hewlett Packard ) , bigger keys but the ph weighs a pound and is the size of the phonebook.
The HP has a battery life of 2 hrs or so.
