same old - same old

wet and raw

w/ sprinkles of snow / rain
no accumulation and no evidence

Another electronic addition to the household. A Samsung J 3 Prime cell phone

I had to return to the store b/c the SIM wouldn't fit.
I looked it up to be sure and the search said ' micro SIM but the slot was smallish looking.
Yep ! it was a nano slot

I'm Up

but

awake - not til 11 AM. It was a slow roll to wakening

Busy day, ran around and around

but home.

Weather was raw not too cold, not too rainy and cloudy.

The main laptop is slow and lagging
The new chromebook is still a dream in the factory at Dell.

I foudn a tip that said to check the compatibility of Chrome OS and the test check came back to use Windows 8.
Nominally, b/c W10 is a piece of ****.

I'm using the new headphones ( which are crystal clear )
And a darn good thing b/c the speakers on the Dell Chromebook are rated ' non functional ' by many reviewers as in  < don't use these, if you can help it >

I'm listening to ' Tiny Desk Concerts ' from NPR, " All Songs Considered "
thank you Tiny Desk

Right now, its ' Jenny and the Mexicats ' the band is sublime and she's a sex goddess.

they'll tell you a lie with a Colgate smile, hey baby,
love you one second and hate you the next one oh
ain't it crazy yeah....... "

from ' Chechez le Femme ' by Dr Buzzard and the Original Savannah Band

For you: guess the song

Looking out across the night-time The city winks a sleepless eye Hear her voice shake my window Sweet seducing sighs Get me out into the night-time Four walls won't hold me tonight If this town is just an apple Then let me take a bite If they say, why, why? Tell them .................................... Why, why does he do me that way?

old Reads

Sci - Fi books from my teens and twenties

I've re - read Andre Norton, some were too boring - now, I'm reading Samuel Delaney, sort of OK

Weather colder and dampish w/ a light sprinkling of white on top of white b/c the salt guys came around at 4 PM to pre - salt the driveway

Fleetwood Mac

Listen to the wind blow

Lurking in the shadows ( ? )
Hear the wind blow ( ? )

Yepper, howling thru the trees and temperature is 39 F

Ubuntu system is OK but gmail is still slow

Maybe when the new chromebook comes then I'll be able to figure out why gmail is / was so slow on this baby laptop.

New machine, the latest poop. A search at Dell reveals a delivery date of 12 - 11. Dell lied, claiming a 7 - 9 shipping date. Actually , the problem was the original ad was 7 - 9 days but the actual order does say Dec 11
Patience

Two great tragedies in life - wanting something and getting it

However, I'm dishing out $ 460 approx. The bar tender at the pub is giving her daughters iPads at $600 apiece ( they're 8 and 10 )
Crikey ! what am I worried about
Well, what I worried about - worrying

a Sloppy Day

drizzle and it will go on

not really cold but raw

Now, on baby laptop, using Ubuntu, a computer system as Windows or Chrome OS.
More primitive and less intrusive.
Ubuntu is Linux based. Commands are more basic and drag less crap around, meaning less power usage and way less intrusion.
On top of that, Ubie is faster.
Now, you understand my motivation - simpler and faster.

We shall see said the Zen Master

The skinny : gmail takes as long or longer to load so far.
but actions occur much faster. Windows pop open. Trust me ' pop ' is not a word familiar to the baby laptop.
Screen windows would solidify into existence.

A Slight Break

in the weather, damp and gray but warmish- touching 50 F

A quiet day, checked the eaves and blew some leaves to tidy up the backyard.
We did a re-watch last night, the ' Martian ' w/ Matt Damon and a terrific cast.
" I'm really looking forward to not dying ", great line
and this would have been on Mars

' gobbled ' down

that Kentucky Fried Rat

old joke re: the Col's chicken and rat parts found breaded in the bucket.
Urban myth ?
Who knows

I ate my share yesterday along w/ his salads and yes ! desserts. Apparently, I took the best one b/c it disappeared first. almond roca swirl or some Chinese name like that.

Weather is faced w/ gray out there w/ rain to follow and slightly warmer
well it has to be warmer cf the last four days

In the category of you found out about here :

nature knows

Black Friday and

a black day out there. Overcast and the sun is a mystical thing - shining but we can't see it.

A friend hosts a Thanksgiving Football Do. This is a Friday event b/c we gave up on Pro football Thanksgiving Day. We watch college ball instead.
All the usual food choices KFC < chicken, fries and salads > pizza and buns. Dessert is big b/c the host is attempting to become diabetic.
As it  turns out the group has whittled down somewhat and specialized. The majority of attendees are fellow alumni from Bloor Collegiate C.I. We span a decade of years but know teachers etc.

Tidbits. Brett Anderson from Accuweather is featured here w/ the long range forecast that he does. FYI, he lives in central Pennsylvania. Thus, he probably is well acquainted w/ snow and Canadian weather.

real Cold at 17 F

not even pretending to be warm.

The wind was reasonable and the sun shone, making the day tolerable - barely.

I appear to be on a electronics kick. Moto g5 phone, headphones and now ---- a Chromebook laptop

cruddy Weather

traffic crashes and slides

Conditions are poor to poorer on the commuting routes. A touch above freezing w/ a biting wind.
Otherwise, we'll survive

I signed up for a plumbing service contract. We shall see said the Zen Master.

Scorekeeping says 3 visits in 2 years. Expensive, can't say but the service replaces parts as per the contract details.

The downstairs vanity was leaking. I diagnosed the supply line.
Nope.
The drain is split, rusted and corroded to falling apart. I'll be out of pocket $ 40. on this adventure but they'll replace $ 100 in other parts. However, I might not find the parts at the local Home Depot b/c it is so old.
The story of this house, is old and NOT the usual < piping etc. >

T.O. the bad

w/ 90 murders for the year which is a record, here

However, the ' xspurts ' point out that w/ a rise in population,T.O. has 3 murders per 1 000 - compare to other big cities on the continent.

Oops ! make that 91

I've been awaiting a present to myself. A set of Audio Technica M50 x headphones.
I pondered how good the sound from the laptop could be. I wasn't sure about sound cards in the guts of the computer and if headphones of decent quality make a difference
They do.
the guys at the pub suggested these headphones at $ 160 U.S.

Despite our postal ' intermittent ' strike  - the package came early.
Early Xmas.

Thus, as I type here < A John Williams medley on French horn is lilting thru the headphones > Neato !

a deer on Sunday

Yepper, romped right thru our backyard.

A female deer lightly tripped by our picture window. 43 F out there
damp and breezy. Pretty w/ snow cover, thank goodness streets cleared of slush and dross.

Mickey Mouse turns 90 to-day, no word on Minnie.

A big sigh as M struggles w/ the Sunday crossword

quiet and the view

from here

We have 42 F and looking damp w/ a bit of movement in the trees.
5 days ago, we had a young buck wander thru the backyard. He had horns, a buck right ! Anyway, he moseyed thru and ate some leaves.

A raw day but not quite frigid

Chores included bringing a hose in from the garage, sweeping off some snow from the deck and taking the recycle bins into the garage.
Normally, all the re-cycle bins sit outside but I brought them in to see how inconvenient they'll be but out of sight.
I always figured that the recycle bins weren't my fault and could be left out....
but I'll see if they'll work out in the garage

Soup for dinner, homemade stock w rice and chicken bits.
let you know how it turns out

a winter scene

comes way too early

The neighbour put up his ' LED icicles '  yesterday, just in time to get real icicles.
The plow came and cleared our drive.
The white is expected to be gone by Sunday after a little warm and some rain on Saturday

Keep cold

goodnight and keep cold

lines from a poem or

our temperatures. W/ snow or some such on the way.

I've been eating prunes ( for fibre ) and the promotional description says ' the plum's cousin '.
I think its more incestuous than that.
Our raisins ' the grape's cousin '
Hmmm ! verbiage or should we investigate this relationship

the World As it Is

how else do you deal w/ this life
" Play the hand your dealt " kind of wisdom

Very fatalistic that thinking

We have sun and the warmest day of the week and mayhaps that driest

outlaw King

in a milieu of treachery, violence and despotism - a country is freed from English rule.

Netflix offered ' Outlaw King ', the story of Robert the Bruce uniting some of Scotland vs Edward I.
Scots hate the English, the English despise the Scots and Scots hate Scots.
Actually, a bloody but interesting taste of Scottish history.
The English seem vicious and greedy
The Scots brave and doughty

The day dawned bright w/ big sun and cold air

Consumer Crap

purchases

I can't help it

OK. The latest, a mouse pen, that you use like a pen w/ scroll, left click and right click on the barrel. As well, it can be a stylus for writing on the screen and typing on a keyboard.
Now, if I could figure out how to make the mousy-pen really useful. It works but so far its a novelty.
The baby laptop needs a mouse for ease of use but b/c baby laptop is always on the road when needed, we don't carry a mouse and often would have no place to put a mouse.
The struggle continues.
Also new, a laser pen and flashlight combo.
Why ?
Well, last trip I forgot to pack a flashlight. Thus, at the Dollar General or some such - well, a dollar.
Why not ?

Speaking of craps, and we weren't, I got to play a the casino on the week end. I was disciplined and managed the ' rack ' ( my chips ) quite well.

I lost $ 50 to 100 and managed to win close to $80 twice. All in all, slightly down.

And the flashing red light is fun.
There is the radiation warning on the pen
Umh , he says

Looking Ahead is a Good Policy

or so I say

This copy and paste is for Brett Anderson at Accuweather, his 3 week long range forecast

BRETT ANDERSON

Weekly long-range outlook

Back from a five-day long-range, climate conference with the Climate Prediction Center, which was held in Santa Barbara, California. The weather was fantastic, but once we got back, it was cold and rainy once again.
Below is my latest interpretation of the weekly patterns through November. Most signs point to a milder, westerly flow of Pacific air into the West. East looks unsettled early month then some shots of chilly weather. However, looks like most of the Arctic air will be bottled up across the far north for most of the month.
