Yesterday was a blah day here. Not only me , but others were looking to kill an afternoon. We are retired , not dead , still , something was in the water.
To -day is starting crisp - thats the glass half full view - the wind is a vital force and cold - thats the truth Overall , a neutral day is coming , little sun , little wind , a little heat
Last night , we waited for seating at a pub. This waiting is not something that I do. Noisy , once we were seated. I didn't pay , so theres the silver lining , stop whining
Beers were 2 for 1 , I drove , no beer , and it was Yeungling , figures.

Why ? These are the dietary items that I will not exclude
the line 'even if the doc says to cut bacon , butter or coffee , I'm still eating them '

I'm getting ready
My uncle said the same and his whole body went into failure
Now , he had multiple problems and little concern for the result
And I don't have toast for breakfast except occasionally ( butter here )

Seen w/ perspective , AtPM can be seen superficially as interesting.
I've heard the time of the Watergate burglary and subsequent inquiry and events , described as that moment when America lost its innocence.
The line in AtPM that stands out is when someone at the Washington Post ( Ben Bradley ???? ) says ' its ridiculous why would they do it ? '
And I'm thinking of the line from ' Instrumentalities of the Night '
...' in war and politics , don't waste time looking for deceit or conspiracy when stupidity and incompetence can explain the situation '

The film has 2 climaxes , or I dropped off somehow
The film flits between / amongst ? an array of photographic styles
Mattes become real shots etc
I'm sure , its supposed to have high drama but the treatment , black comedy / white comedy / grey comedy is pernicious
Now , if you think that I don't know what I'm talking about - your correct !
Rating : 0.7 / 1.00 for cute and 0 .3 / 1.00 for stupid

Big Wind
... is roaring through here not cold but strong
We have our own version of the ' big dig ' going on over the street.
So far ,the workers have dug a hole that stopped just shy of China
They created a smell like raw sewage which is what is causing the original problem. They have been there so long that they re painted the lane lines of the street.
Lately , they imported what I would call well tiles except instead of 3 ft across , these buggers are 30 something ft across. Fri , they left with these tiles sitting up approx 8 ft above grade. same thing this AM early - now the most easterly tile is sunk to grade and I guess the other one drops down next.
We knew that this would be an important day b/c 4 guys were standing around leaning on their shovels instead of the usual 2 or 3.
Checked right now and nothing has changed except that the crew are standing around their cars.
Weather: is all wind , roaring through here like nobodies business.
Temperature is close to irrelevant b/c the wind is dominant. Bright sun and blue sky though

$50 Tablet
Sounds like expensive aspirins
No , at an outlet store , I saw a Polaroid brand 7" tablet for $ 50 dual core and dual camera ,Wifi
To check I went on line and found a review of bargain tablets , maybe 12 different ones
The tablets all work..... but most have inbred security problems
Some have security features by - passed by a factory installed system
The tablets were rated from ' untrustworthy ' to ' semi OK ' for security.
Another site said the cheaper tablets were fine for games and other apps but not banking or financial concerns
As if FaceBook didn't put you at risk to start
At this rate , crappy little e- machine is starting to look good

This is a time a relative peace in the Pa Dema. Its been ten years or so since the uprising by the Crusader States , comprised of 4 duchies usually bent on pushing their boundaries out. The loose coalition that faced the Crusader States had the Jarome of Motaine and his heavy horse in the middle. A brief and uninspired charge by the Crusader States fell apart quickly.
In suing for terms , the Crusader States gave 100 000 gold pech as security and agreed to the previous delineation of territory. The security gold was given to the Chami of Ghenali , hereditary ruler and mage. The Chami specialized in transformation magic and the Crusader States faced the prospect of hauling dray loads of hay or bricks home hoping to find it was their gold. Benign maybe , but fairly efficient.
The Jarome that day of battle was backed by the mounted archers of his liegeman , The Lamberchel. Lamberchel , Dog of War , for the Jarome. That first charge of Crusaders met 200 arrows fired for effect and fired flat and hard. Those arrows found crevices and niches in armour. Not many dead but enough wounded to deter any further thought of attack.
As well , the heavy horse stood ready and The Lamberchel had unsheathed his ax. Either was formidable , to - gether , well , safer to ground lances and sue for terms.

Penny
..... as on the Big Bang Theory , was never given a last name. We looked that up this A.M. Thought I would put you out of your misery if you couldn't remember.
The day is overcast and windy but the sun is trying to do some damage by breaking through , its a tough battle. The wind will die and the cooler temperatures are to follow. We're tough , we can handle 60 F
On the fishing front , poor and getting worse. C.f. to last year , by diary entries , I'm down some 25 fish. However , no one is doing any better and thats even w/ live or dead shrimp, instead of plastique.
On the topic of OpOsm or health for life ,despite the regular consumption of Yeungling beer - status quo is in effect. The restaurant / bar up the street ( Shells ) has draft beer at $2 a glass and the Toasted Monkey charges a whopping 2.25 / glass.
Shells also gives peanuts at the bar - neat.

Demotion
..... from genius and lucky to normal guy
but obviously we found a reasonable system
Recently , I was extolling the value and ease of TracFone as a cell carrier.
M got her new phone for $ 15 and a $ 20 airtime card and bingo bango her service exp date is in JUL
We thought we had a bargoon going. Nope SOP for TracFone
Which is good for us.
TracFone allows you to add airtime and as far as I can tell if the addition of airtime occurs before the service exp date e.g. JUL for M , TF adds the airtime and date to the existing credit.
Thus , b/c I don't read instructions before hand , I failed to note that the new phone ( $ 15 ) comes preloaded w/ $10 airtime and 60 days. By using the $20 aircard M got $30 credit and exp service date of Jul ( 150 days total ).
If this info is all true , TF has solved our out of country cell phone situation.
Be good if I actually read the instructions. Oh well , as I said as far as I can figure TF rolls over credit and service date exp

Tale of a Phone
The name is TracFone , as in sold in every chain store in the U.S.
After an initial purchase of a cell phone ( theirs ) for $ 19.95 or $ 15 as we did two weeks ago. You can have a cell phone in the U.S. for $8 and change a month , or less
Why less ? The $ 8 is for my phone , $100 a year for a gazillion minutes ( 1900 in my case ). M's new phone was charged w/ a card that promised $20 for 3 months and double the minutes , 300.
Well ,on signing up on line , the screen lights up and ' you have 300 minutes and an expiry of 7/6 , 2015. We haven't figured out if thats JN or JL , no matter its 6 months. And the cost is $3 a month
Both phones have texting ,voice mail and internet - email as well.
I took a picture w/ the phone - the friend wanted the photo.
So , last night 1 h and 40 min later and down 12 minutes in air time. - please register your account

- we will send you a confirmation address , copy to your send line and establish an account
- I'm typing on an alphabetic key pad , trying to add numbers and symbols
- OK , seems to be an address and account
I sent the photo ( fish , natch )

Qualifications
I'm trying to decide if there should be a rule about complaining.
Sort of like ,you need to qualify to able to complain
E.g. my wrist is still sore but the lady downstairs is missing a leg
... see she really can complain. The wrist ? .. I'm still swimming and eating... of course , I'm eating
On the OpOsmin front , my weight is around 170 and I'm swimming daily ( maybe not fast but daily )
Our trip of the week , Fri was to the horse track. A pleasant facility
and w/ a Groupon , a deal.
$ 14 per couple got us - valet parking ( + tip ), free admission to the box seats , a program ( normal cost $ 3 ) , a 2 dollar voucher to bet and a $5 food voucher. In essence , each person got $ 10 in services and perqs. However ,w/ the betting and all , you wouldn't need to do this very often.
Oh , betting losses $ 15 , which in craps terms is peanuts
Weather : cold - ish but sunny like crazy.

The Real Tragedy

I'm watching the Vietnam War story , ' We We're Soldiers ,and We were Young ' w/ Mel Gibson. The Air Cav barely survives their first incursion into enemy territory w/ massive losses. Through unrelenting air cover , the 1 st of the 3 rd makes it out.
The Viet colonel looks out at the battle scene and comments ' the great tragedy is that the Americans will think . they can win '
A warmish day after torrential downpours , last night and afternoon.
Humidity is up.

Floundering around
There are red fish , blue fish , black fish and all appear in children's stories. Fish got named after almost any animal.
Yesterday , a flounder ( summer flounder ) jumped my jig as I was trying off the dock. Not a keeper but wriggly and fought hard. Couldn't ask for more , well I could but won't.
The clouds have challenged the sun for dominance and are winning
Humidity is rising and the clouds getting darker , rain chance is 60 % or more.
Movie review : This is 3 days old but what the hey !
The ' Imitation Game ' Brendan Cumberbatch and Kiera Knightly.
Set in WWII , at Bletchley Park ,home of the OSS ( British Intelligence) , intercept and decode station. The hero , much maligned in his personal life , has achieved prominence in the field of mathematics.
He is part of a team , reluctant part BTW , chosen to decipher the German Enigma Code which is set and changed by the ' Enigma ' machine daily.
Movie hits many high notes in acting and suspense and failure. In the end , there is success , estimates put the lives saved at 14 million and shortened the war by 2 years. He is part of a team , reluctant part BTW , chosen to decipher the German Enigma Code which is set and changed by the ' Enigma ' machine daily.
Movie hits many high notes in acting and suspense and failure. In the end , there is success , estimates put the lives saved at 14 million and shortened the war by 2 years. I forget the rest , I'll look it up
Yesterday , was a mile walk up to the Street Art Show
Homeward , stopped for beer and wine but no spinning at all
I caught my first fishes a lizardfish and pinfish. The pinfish was the size of my hand ( fingers closed ) , no giant but ' great things ' and the lizard dude was a ' little " great " thing '
Weather : is improving ???????? This 7 AM feels almost balmy c.f. the last 2 mornings , so hope is in the air.
No plans for to -day , yet but the day is just aborning

The Reason
..... that I bake muffins and make soup ( as to -day ) is functionality.
I was watching ' Elementary ' , the NY - modern Sherlock Holmes , and SH has been non using narcotics for almost 2 years.
He laments that the regimen ( non drug program ) has led to a humdrum life , ' drip , drip , drip ' existence. SH needs a raison d'etre as the French say.
I'm not saying that I feel exactly the same, but creating is important to everyone. So ,soup it is
We had ' winner , winner chicken dinner ' last night and the carcass is boiling now.
I expect to add veg and rice -chicken veg rice soup
Results announced , to morrow

When Reporting is....
........easy. Tell the bad things happening in the world
Being benevolent is hard . And I'm not doing those look at the puppies ,schmaltzy stories.
Dealing w/ people can be enlightening. I didn't say fun. Methinks that in all cases , you need to work at the relationship. However , we all have our view points. Now supposedly , b/c I'm looking to be more content , in accord w/ the wisdom of King Wen and Duke Chou , the whole kadoodle should be getting easier.
Good one. We need some more of that humour.

I made that ' polar packet ' stuff up
You know 'Polar Vortex ' last year
The snow came and went
Apparently , it wasn't determined enough
I did move snow from the roof droppings before it froze in place

Its a May snowpile waiting to happen
To -day is ' divorce Monday ' , law offices are flooded w/ inquiries re: starting proceedings
People hang to -gether for the holidays , family et al

Coffee On
M has one cup
I have the pot. I've taken to diluting the coffee by 1 / 3. Why ?
Dunno. My Mom did it , its genetic
See , blame the parents
They both smoked , a lot , not me , ever
During the day , I'll make ice coffee 1/3 C coffee + milk over ice and French Vanilla Creamer. And it doesn't cost $3
My eating mantra , I'm eating bacon , butter and using cream when I get coffee to go. To quote Laura Nyro ' And when I die , And when I'm gone ...... ' it won't matter.
She didn't write the last bit that was me.
To -day , was weigh in day ,I'm back to almost pre - Xmas weight
Ah ,but pre - Xmas fitness ? Dunno
My sore wrist is causing some major re - shuffling of routine
But funny , the sore wrist doesn't affect how I use the elliptical machine , so I soldier on.
In the Weather dept , OMG , everything fell on us.
Saturday AM , looming doom was in the air
White flakes started to float down by 11 AM
By 1 PM , slashing , gusting winds brought white out conditions
I went out at 2:30 and got to slide around corners. I actually used " X factor Grip " or whatever the traction button thingy does
I also tried the manual shift , to stay in 2nd gear longer and for turns. Boy , did I muck that up.
6 PM and it was ' Why go out ? ' conditions
Now , Sun. 8 AM , the rain is tattooing the roof and its glistening and shiny out there , great for a skating rink

World News , this summer an unprecedented number , hundreds of thousands , of people have fled the Middle East for Europe , and especially , Turkey and Italy , b/c if you float a boat in the Med, even I could navigate enough to hit one of those 2 coasts.

War and fighting has always caused Exoduses such as in these past five years , but I don't think peoples have ever had the physical resources , big ships and ports to embark , as to - day.

Well, I'm thinking short term , always good to set a window.
For the QMH , I said if I can get 10 yrs of enjoyment out of the cottage , it would have been worth it.
I thought about happy , then decided that contented is the real issue for me. This , as you can gather is not a natural state for me. Really , not natural.
I consulted the I Ching , the age old system of divination. The history of I Ching goes back to seers using reed sticks to seek a pattern and predict the future. In a great bout of wisdom they went to cubes or coins. Toss the coins , say , 6 times and note the pattern.
A monarch of those latter times , set the patterns in a book , the judgments of King Wen. Following this , the Duke of Chou rephrased or condensed the judgments. Duke Chou failed to make the predictions clearer. go figure
On line , a fan of Douglas Adams , author of the Dirk Gently series , created the I Ching calculator.
"The I Ching calculator was plastic , much like a cell phone w/ a numeric key pad , arithmatical buttons and such , plus a 'red ' key
which was green. Obviously , a knock off by some some Asian country busily doing to Japan what Japan was doing to the world.
Glue technology had not kept pace with the technical advances of the calculator b/c cellotape helped to hold the I Ching calculator to - gether. " I faked this part but its pretty much what the book said.

The weather outside is not frightful but wear your woolies
We show 27 F in the shade w/ bright sun
Things will not change , we are in a pocket of cold air reinforced from the N
Too much dessert and other rich foods ( what else ) has upped my weight count and waistline , perils of the season. Thus , the battle rejoins
Amongst all the frivolities , I hurt my wrist somehow , a pesky little strain or somesuch
Innanities , M was gifted a cell phone , an i-Phone 4s , like mine.
We tried to ' port ' the old phone # to the i-Phone 4s , 3 days ago.
We were reading a 16 digit # into a voice recognition system.
we waited and nada
This AM ,we called the company and talked to a voice that was a person. We re - spoke the activation # and activation code , exactly as before
then ' turn off your phone for 2 hrs , and send a request for your balance , this will tell if your port worked '
TURN OFF the phone !!!!
Where was that in the voice system instructions
