Cinco de mayo -

dreary in the  ' boro. but this is spring in the Great [ almost ] White North

since last the Buds drank out of the Stanley Cup

the ' buds ' are the Toronto Maple Leafs

we are under the gloom of a Low Pressure system

the grass can grow and my new seeds on the boulevard will be watered

a sunny day in the  'boro and the dandies are proving why, all that I dig is futile

Friday 3 May 2024

πŸŽͺ the 3 rd of May

πŸŽͺ the marching of the time

today, tarted fine and devolved to rain and grimness

grimness. yes, its pulling dandelions .... I dug out a bucket and said ' quits'

went for pizza and relaxed
the dandies will be there tomorrow, the dandelions will be there many tomorrows to come

no deer today. foggy as yesterday but warmer

a threat of rain but its skimpy

the plan for the day was to address the heating coils in the eavestrough s. The ice prevention scheme worked a charm.
BUT now that's its warmer - time for the coils to be removed.
I did the back, just a short run of cable. Cleaned the guck out

Went to start the front and a neighbour waved. I went over - chit chat. Then I said ' better get back to getting heating coils out of the eavestrough '
neighbour goes ' why / '
just leave them in

So I did.

And big sun came thru'. Brilliant day

later. I attempted to fix the edges of the landscaping fabric that is topping my stone ring for the backyard trees.
As usual.
cart before the horse
I laid the paving stones as a border for the tree grove. There was landscape fabric from previous attempt to block weeds.
Then while talking to a neighbour who had an artificial lawn, she mentioned almost weed proof fabric [ more expensive but ... ].
I put down Fabric2 over the old fabric1. However, the edges overlapped the stones. I tired to tuck the fabric in [ crap ] and then layered limestone screenings to hold down the edges [ crap ]

Today. I lifted the pavers and pulled the fabric2 under the stones.
OF COURSE ! I should have done this years ago

The appearance has improved several fold

🎬 its a wrap, as at today

πŸŽ¬   April, come she may ..... [Simon & Garfundkel ]

we had three deer appear in the yard, browsing on buds and wary of dogs in the ravine

🀯 mind over .......

 πŸ€― .... water  or ...... everything ....... or matter

Thus. for two exercise days, I started early, like in 8 or 8: 30 AM
Friday, I was going out for the day, just thought ' get it over ' then not worry about could I squeeze the exercise in.

today. why not. Usually, its 11 AM or such when I start
BUT more importantly, its mindset.
People go for daily walks. Walk the dog.
Me ! its
rowing machine plus elliptical and free weights and callisthenics

I track my workouts for  Av BPM and Max BPM and elapsed time and Calories
as in : 113 / 128 BPM, 44:50 min and 503 Cal
I'm thinking [ always dangerous, that ] this is my walk. Way more vigorous and varied and a sweat maker to boot

So, done. And maybe, this early bit takes the whole exercise thingy down a notch.
I have been trying to re - jig my thought process re : my exercise
This re - think is formatted by several items :
I'm older. And I've been relentless and thorough in pursuing a fitness regimen
Next. I am not getting stronger or faster or anything more than I can be
So, I'm making my workout akin to a walk or 5 000 steps

And you are thinking, of course, but it's taken me about three years to re - jig. It is hard to come down from that ' go - go ' manner of exercising.
sort of stronger, better, faster

πŸ‘  if the shoes fit

  πŸ‘  or shoe
well, I decided that today is a write off
went out and inspected the front 40

since last summer, the interlock on the East side of the driveway disappeared. Topsoil was layered in its place.
I spread the seed and grass grew. Overall, its a success over there on the East side

This last bit. The West side of the drive. The neighbour agreed to contract to remove the curb work [ ugly, old and I didn't like its look ].
Well, this work left a narrow strip of [ basically ] nothing.
Thus, neighbour contracted to beautify and remediate the area.
A miracle worker.
The West side looks as though someone cares and thought about what they wanted [ not me, him ]
Pleased.

Howver, its dull and wet. I have designated this as a write off day.

Bacon and tomato sandwich. Sat and watched Prime Video. Started on my Yeungling lunch early. [ never too early !!!! ]

Tough love, tough luck

follow up or not. The bacon was a marvel. In essence, the Tiger has this brand of bacon. It looks good in the package BUT usually, its a marketing ploy w/ fat layered all over the bacon.
This brand [ Butchers  ..... ] does have fat but you can lop off the white strips.
Today, pan fried the bacon. Turned out a treat.

Yeaungling is the treat of the week

🍱 vol 2, going for lunch

 πŸ± much further, this trip.
approx 1 1 / 2 h. and the venue is less welcoming or the nature of the day is less welcoming
We [ a posse of 4 ] are visiting a nursing home to say hello to a former student. Yes, 8 yrs younger than me

needs must, as they say. and you gotta care and you gotta try

the person is stage three cancer nd coping well
unfortunately, at her age there is no appropriate company in the nursing home

however, L .. has very specific interests [ TV is not one them ] and luckily has a lake view [ and balcony ]

thankfully, it wasn't only me going
spread out the load, so to speak

Magic Noodle, magic. Thursday special is ' Magic Beef Noodle ' bowl. the guys all, drain the bowl and I leave the soup part. no way can I hold the lot
still excellent [ if you are a ramen type fan ]
FYI, ' ramen ' the Japanese term for a bowl of noodles, is derived from the Chinese.

Google search yields ....Although ramen takes its name from lāmiàn, it did not originate from the hand-pulled lamian noodles of northern China, since the noodles used in ramen are cut, not pulled.
And at Magic, the noodle Chef whacks the noodle ball and stretches til it makes our noodles - ah, might just be  lamian

🧢 sunshine is the theme

 πŸ§Ά when you're having a ball

it s all there

supposedly, write about what you know
the sun is out and that's good enough for me

say no more. sunshine in a bottle

Update : the Kings of Spring. Well, not quite. The Johns Hopkins men s lacrosse team is ranked # 3 in the country. They posted their final B1G win by smothering a Maryland team on Saturday. Undefeated in B1G play and first w/ a bye into the B1G championships.

Their losses were to Navy, Denver and Syracuse

Go ! Hop.

Update : sun was a constant, today. Cool ish and gusty winds but a doable day

accomplished : exercise.
BTW, decided to take it easy - er. less reps etc. AND the BPM Av and Max were about the same

Ah, but how did I feel ? definitely less tired. Sweated the same
All s good.

75 HP ran well. after electrical intervention. And when I went to prime the gas flow bulb after the engine balked on initial start. Got to remember that priming bit.
I replaced the feed lines last year. Somehow, this new house system needs a couple of pumps on the feeder bulb to get the fuel started
well, I can accommodate that. especially, when the E Tec fires right up

all good.

the ' boro. the day is brightening BUT to what ..... 80 % chance of rain

Friday 19 April 2024

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡ͺ Georgia .....

 πŸ‡¬πŸ‡ͺ  .... Georgia
the whole day through .... "

' boro, weather rain and gloom plus its miserable feeling

not all is ticked y - boo ! I ran a self test on this laptop
the battery was rated at 60 %. This level is called a ' pass '. Recall, that the updates for 5190 end this summer. Maybe, its a sign of the age of the machine
BTW, Chromebook s are notorious for no '  battery replacement '. There is a whole whack of glue and plastic to open up to get to the battery
not for the faint of heart or talent

And I've been expecting this moment of redundancy for 5190 ' she's been a good ship '

the day is not as blustery or cruddy feeling. still no sunlight

🧧 when the weather gods

 πŸ§§ choose you
well.

tale of the tables. we are gambling in the Southern Tier [ NY - eese ]
my fav is the craps table. four trips to the rail and four wins
nothing grand but a total win of $ 100
and I lost $ 20 maybe at slots
I issued $ 140 as a stake. Then if I get up to 160 - 180 - that's a good profit. The trick is to get out before you lose the stake.
Better to walk w/ a gain [even 20 % b/c not everyone can walk away ]

back home. the sadness is that the worse part of the trip is exiting and entering T.O

we met more cars edge of T.O. inward then all of the way to the city boundary

anyway. home

Oh, joy !

did you know ? that ' Sound of Silence ' Simon and Garfunkel was a folk song

further : Sara Bareilles wrote a protest song for the record company s desire to direct here career - ' Love Song '. got a lot of press for the sentiment and kitsch manner of her protest
Well. Years later, Ben Folds, producer etc, presented ' Love Song ' w/ the National Symphony Orchestra, back up singers and arrangement by among others Caroline Shaw.
Wowsers ! joy in a can - as they say

πŸ„ coming on the 11 the of the Month

πŸ„ oh yeah, five in the AM and I'm typing w/ coffee on standby

rain now and today
rooted out four dandelions. right. 4 of about a hundred - I bet

there is no movie ' Invasion of the Dandelions '
sheer terror / ancient enmities
I can say, ' drudgery and hopelessness ' play a large role in the effort

basically, " life will out "
life finds a way ...... and way and ..... way

yes. Peter Townsend was almost first up on YouTube

then Fievel, sings ' Somewhere Out There '

followed by ' Heart Like a Wheel ' ala the Mc Garrigles
and of course, Linda Ronstadt in Rochester NY for a performance

' boro weather. rain and cool [ perfect dandelion weather ]

BTW. the emoji - fest going w/ the blog -the colourful picx, are from the Chrome ' call up an emoji ' feature.
hit the ' everything ' key [ search ] and then ' shift + space bar ' --> bingo ! sheets of emojis appear. unlimited choice

I've been thinking about this -
the device that I'm using is a DELL 5190, Chromebook.
Student model. drop resistant. spill resistant. basic machine
a rock star of laptops.
the bad stuff.
well, its been powerwashed [ factory reset ] at least three times. Mostly, I believe because of the Virtual Private Network, Nord. Somehow Chrome OS and Nord, hate each other. And aren't afraid to air their dirty linen - in my face.
its not a powerful computing device but 5190 doesn't know it

The good stuff. Dependable. Keyboard is - well suits my fingers. BTW, I do type w/ two hands and eight fingers + two thumbs
never did well in typing class [ fundamentally incompetent ] however, w/ spell check. auto correct or whatever
Do just fine thank you
5190 has travelled to England, Scotland and the U.S.

AND coming soon, no more updates and security patches from Chome [ called AUE ]. Then, I suppose the 5190 is mothballed. Oh, I could continue using the 5190 as a Linux [ base computing machine ] but I'm not good at Linux system usage

To that end. A replacement is in use, right now. I figured get the CB 311 [ Chromebook eleven inch, of course ] And the CB 311 has some quirks
mainly, that apps treat the CB 311 like an android phone. You see, Chromebooks are as close to an android phone that you can get.
the bonus is - attache or connect ' peripherals '
as in hook up a monitor, headphones and mouse - NO problem
you see that's why these CB s are meant for

weather update : Noah must have called in a favour - buckets coming down
worms are using popsicle sticks to make rafts
AND - the first test of the new edging work b/c this rain will collapse the overhang. We will see what results
good or bad or ugly [ please not ugly ]

πŸ¦ͺ a pearl of a deal

πŸ¦ͺ or oyster stew for you

a thought ! this AM, listened to ' Let My Love Open Door ' sung by Peter Townsend
could anyone ? be depressed listening to this ditty - ish song

thus, I'm thinking - why not play this each morning 🎡
great way to start the day
now, the lyrics are open to interpretation [ hopeful or yearning ]

the weather report : balmy, light wind = sweater conditions
as in spring going to summer

Tuesday 9 April 2024

the ad was titled
what is your lawn language - elves, gnomes etc

a better day - today. no eclipse. sunny and warmer

keep the faith, amigos

its hard to concentrate looking at the comic gnome

I contracted for more work on the front edges adjacent to the driveway. N ... across the street [ young lad ] wants the work, has the equipment and ideas.
thus, he will edge the driveway w/ plastic garden edging and create a mini rock garden at the foot of the driveway [ no use trying to grow grass there ] and haul in mulch to cover and decorate [ mostly cover ]

feel like, I've done the work already

" when you're dying of thirst

life by the throat when you're drinking Coke

there s  is only one drink, its universal "

from the ' Coca Cola Kid ' circa 1985. Starring Eric Roberts and Greta Scacchi

the lyrics :

 Don't want to go when there's no Coca-Cola -
you've got - life by the throat when you're drinking Coke.
Choke back the tears when there's no Coca-Cola -
you've got - life by the throat when you're drinking Coke.

and you're dying of thirst,
there's only one drink, it's universal.

yesterday. report. I asked the neighbour across the street to take down a low block and cement curb on the West side of the driveway.
last year, the interlock on the East was removed and grassed over. [ doing well, BTW ]
there was damage to the cap stones and the repair and repaint or whatever - would achieve more of the same problems and appearance
so. out w/ the curb. he suggested one day
and did it.
OK now what. Humph ? we have ideas. we have time. we have the money.
Lets do it !!!

the upshot of the whole deal is to take away the elevation between driveway and lawn. The hope is that eventually , by design and default, the grass edge on the East boundary will be a gentle slope and not a cliff.

We shall see said the Zen Master

Amazon order is in for battery terminal connectors [ broken tip on one wire from the bilge pump ] and also the leading candidate for broken connection on that post. You see, we never tried the bilge on Sunday. But that ring has been missing a piece for 7 months now.
the culprit in our start problems ?
I've read that w/ out continuous contact improper current flow can occur

Also, coming days later is a ' connector spray ' that cleans and inhibits oxidation [ $ 20 a can ] but apparently is a saviour when your not sure what your connection problem is.

Monday 1 April 2024

πŸ¦“ a funny thing

 πŸ¦“ OH ! April 1 st

dig that. know that. be that. see that

sunny but cool ish BUT hope is in the air

yes, on the cool side but fair in almost all other ways
spring in Great White North

Alright. A story. On Saturday at the Q', three of us brought down the equipment to the boathouse. Batteries installed and safety stuffs stored. Cross your fingers !
The boat ran down the rails, a bit straggly, and plopped in the water.
I turned the key and ..... burble, slight roar and the engine caught

We fished a bit, froze a whole lot but got to fish the river

Switch  to Sunday, A .. s two daughters had been waiting for a ride. Bundled up, we got down to the river. Loaded the kids and ...
yep. Dead. The engine clacked but that was it.
We decided to wait for the afternoon and give it another go.

We dragged down a spare battery, testing meters and hope.  I was least hopeful. Re - connect the wires and check for current flow. All good.
OK. Key gets turned. Burble and the slight roar. Really, E Tec caught right away.

OMG. Yes, we got to fish that afternoon as well.

Best guess. A connecting wire loosened, just enough to cause a problem, in starting

Thats my story, for the Easter Weekend

🎬 the Sunday Report

πŸŽ¬ for the last day of March

But good friends applying logic and coolness saved the day

the sun came out and the sky is blue

according to my phone, the conditions to day are cooler than  α•™( ͡◉ ͜ Κ– ͡◉)α•— yesterday
thus, I am seeing mostly bare road w/ splotches of snow [ piled ] ala the plows of March

yes, the day is the ' big melt ' AGAIN !Very reminiscent of FEbruary or , even, March.
you are going to live somewhere
thus Canada, the  ' boro is not bad or is GOOD

Saturday 23 March 2024

⇆ this door ...... [ 03 -23 ]

 ⇆  ...... swings both ways

WELL !!! snow, me boys.
Yes, 4 inches not two. A wondrous sight - snow covered peaks and valleys [ or roads ]

the warm up begins today. above freezing and then above 40 very soon plus the sun returns in full force

reporting. gradually, I'm getting used to and fine tuning the arrangement of the                      ' computer room '
now. I'm the only one that uses this room [ in here now, as I type ]
supposedly it has three desks.
 a) is this corner unit or computer set up
 b) is a drop door writing desk - which is intended to be mine but is a holding area for all papers that come to the room [ a catch basin of sorts ]
c) but the third became a shelf - w/ a speaker base supporting a printer + a plastic tower of shelve baskets that occupies a corner

however, overall this room became functional and open
the sofa pullout is use-able [ when, don't know ] the key is that it is organized to suit.

I've added some picture layouts - sort of display pieces of our travels

a follow up.

🌞 what a change in one day I think it looks grand but I'm not trying to move around in a sloppy mess

πŸ›ž of Time [ March 22 ]

 πŸ›ž finding ' emoji ' s

lately an update from Chrome OS offered the option of ' a new source ' of emoji s by using  the search key + shift and space. An array of choices as you've seen in recent days appears.

Better ? not sure

6:00 AM
dark out there still. BTW, I will re - mention that by re - organising and changing the             computer room layout [ spare bedroom gone office ], the ' new ' corner computer stand has put me next to the window looking out on our street.

PK, not a world shattering difference but ' a new outlook ' is important from time to time.

well, it seems that when you engage the new ' emoji board ' - the keyboard goes wankers on start up. I found a work around

 and we can celebrate

something
' boro conditions. I see a lightening sky but the feel is cool to chilly [ went for the paper, expert testimony, there ]
AND
exactly as observed and predicted - GLOOMY out there
but no undue circumstances  etc arise

Exercise is done and so am I. Usually, mid afternoon [ give or take ] is workout time. However, I'm having lunch at the Noodle thus, early or late
and putting off the deed runs the risk of being postponed if some problem occurs

I've survived some glitches w/ the heart rate monitor. I swapped out batteries, cleaned the leads and swore. A lot of the later happened.
THEN I checked the ' sensor ' file. All was good. One click and a coloured line appeared ' connect to BluTooth  '

Say what ? Yes, apparently, by accident or action, the BluTooth function can be switched ' off '.

To be fair. There are instructions [ hints ] about the significance of the dual LED lights - red and blue, on the actual chest strap.
BUT and big but at that is - you need to observe the sequence of the colour flashes, and note frequency of the flashing - this will tell you what the sensor is doing
Oh, Yeah ! I'm really into that
Further, I was thinking that the chest monitor was at fault b/c the flashing seemed to stop rather quickly. And to save battery, the LED lights self terminate at 30 seconds [ news to me, b/c I never watch the LED s while exercising ]

Long story for a roughly, happy ending. And while searching for answers, I discovered that the chest monitor is approx 4 years old from purchase date.
How long can I expect the contraption to last?Best guess is El finito in a year or two. Significantly, that would be stellar performance from a heart rate monitor.
Truthfully, the device is used approx 180 times a year. So ballpark calculation says 700 interactions.

OK. As reported here, the data that I get varies very little from day to day. And the ugly truth is that even pushing myself [ or so I think ] those values are consistent.
Disappointing and a testament to reality. Reality really does suck

WELL. The JHU mlax managed the same feat again on Fri. Leading 6 - 1 and ending in an OT loss

πŸͺ…XI days of Mars

first lunch at the Magic Noodle, was fantastic [ daily special, Chicken Noodle Bowl ]

then COSTCO. I bought Metamucil, ginger chunks snack treat, strudel pieces [ M ..s fav ]
Brazil nuts and fruit Sensations treats

The Brazil nuts are therapeutic. I eat 2 Brazil nuts per day for trace minerals, e.g. selenium
kind of ' one a day ' vitamins but way cheaper

weather in the ' boro, cold wind [ huffing along ], big sun - beautiful day

the ginger chunks are candied ginger. At Costco, last fall, I bought the gallon jar of honey, lemon and ginger. Add to hot water for a lemon therapy drink.
All gone. But I still have lemon and honey in hot water. Now, I can add chopped up ginger chunks as well.

Thursday 7 March 2024

♹ Mars

♹  ♹ a week of March slipped by

our ' boro weather bodes damp and 50

LIAR !!!

a blessed day in the ' boro. Mega sun, gentle winds and dry. Temperature did not soar but quite comfortable, overall

reporting : this might be a repetition
I've estimated the cost of the new cushions and accessories for our 2 seater and 3 seater. Approx $ 780

2 covered foam slabs for the seating area
4 cushion covers for the end cushions on each sofa
4 back cushion covers for the 3 seater
2 back cushion covers for the 2 seater

recall, tho' much of the original foam was re - purposed and stuffed in the new cushion covers. In truth, only $ 16 went to already filled or complete cushions
To compare
likely the base price of ready made sofas as we would need them - close to 12 or 1 300 a piece. The 2 seater, slightly less than the 3 seater

And my big bugaboo is the quality of the build and material. The bulk of material would be particle board for supports and cloth covering a frame, stuffed w/ foam.

Thus, we can compare the $ 780 to a price tag of $ 2 600 for new furniture. As well, accessories would be needed if the colour scheme warranted it

Then, we need to assess how long the foam slabs seating will hold up.

NO ! here in the ' boro, the ground must pass the ' ass ' test.
Hunh ?
Right. Drop your pants and sit on the ground for 3 minutes. If you can stand the cold, time to plant

Warning !!!! Do not attempt this at home

here. what has been going on.
report. there has been a smell in M .. s bathroom. firstly, very little air moves in the small room. yesterday. the cleaning service was due to arrive.
I reached for some toilet bowl cleaner and
SAW mold and mildew - galore. Plus, there was water puddling
I suspected a drainage leak from the sink [ not that much water ]
upon inspection, yes, water dripped from the ' U ' connector.
Thus, I cleaned up the soggy mess and tired to remove the mold / mildew w/ the appropriate cleaner
However, the problem remained. Today, I went hunting and discovered that the lever drop assembly had a leak. The linkage operates the stopper but the metal was rusted. And rusted enough to prevent a good seal as water drained out of the basin and down the outlet pipes.

Analysis dictated, call a plumber - $ 75 for call out + 30 for parts
Or, somehow plug the leak or gap and wait for another problem and get all done at once

Cheap ! is jury rig a temporary seal.

Guess ? Yepper
I cleaned the screw on lever holder. I took the existing gasket and strapped a plastic bag piece around the gasket. I used sealer tap on the threads and put it all back
Leak ! yes, still.
Again, Use a second gasket over the first.
Success. BUT this is ' bound to fail ' I mean its a plastic bag sealing the opening [ even if its small]

Done ? No, b/c this is a bathroom sink. Somehow the drain opening in the basin needs to be restricted, so that small objects can't wash down the drain [ Bobbie pins, earrings etc

Again. I wrapped hockey tape around the plug and made it thick. Nope, too small an opening. Again. Tape two popsicle onto the drain plug.
Success [ and looks ' ugly ' ]

Thus, we chose utility over aesthetics. Real utility, I say

weather in the ' boro ..... damp w/ drops and warm ish [ close to 50 ]

Mellon and Wood, might have been boat builders BUT they wrote songs
my fav ... is ' My One and Only Love '
however, I did notice last night that in two instances ..... Guy Wood was given sole credit as writer [ hunh ???? ]
so, Mr Mellon, you are acknowledged here

plus, I've noticed how credits change. ' Human Nature ' was a big hit for Michael Jackson. AND you'll see ' Human Nature ' by Michael Jackson ' as a title credit

BUT Steve Procaro and John Bettis [ of ' Toto ' ] wrote the song. Lately, perhaps b/c of the YouTube algorithm, I'm seeing more videos highlighting the authors.

Sunday 3 March 2024

🎒 our weather

πŸŽ’ we are going up in temperature and add the moisture

that's the 'boro, this week

adventure of the day was the Giant Tiger

the list said - salad mix / milk

then 2 throw pillows, a pair of shorts and individual portioned smoked salmon made the cart

sounds fairly familiar, to me

update : success, M .. liked the colours and patterns
a big deal ?? you bet. My colour sense or differentiation of colours is suspect.
the corollary to this, is that I do best if I stick to earth - tones. I choose earth tones automatically
however, there is some blandness about earth tones
when I get adventurous [ like today, well, the results can be mixed ].

OK what was the colour and pattern. The background was blue [ not green - blue ] and small flowers in beige w/ a blue centre

our weather is mild for March.

a stretch of above 40 temperature is predicted, say maybe 6 days

Friday 1 March 2024

㋂ marching in

㋂ yes. bet you lost track but this is the third month of 2024
did it sneak up on you.

" bad news on the doorstep " - ala ' the Day the Music Died '

so, lets have an update :
in the living room we replaced the sofa cushions
as likely mentioned, the frames for the 2 seater and 3 seater are teak [well, real wood and weigh like real wood ]. We chose to buy slab foam covered in a blue fabric.
the original design had separate cushions.

For the supporting cushions, we got basically, slip covers and re - filled w/ the foam from the existing cushions

This re - filling is messy. You cut the foam w/ a hacksaw blade. THEN as you get impatient, you grab a wood saw and go to.
Much more foam bits fly off but much faster

the result ' we like !
 ' Alright !!!
we did save money, probably in the $ 1 500 range. However, the fact is that any furniture that we could get at $ 2 000 would be particle board and fabric. We spent somewhere in the $ 700 range
but if you keep track, we also saved a lot of foam from dying in the garbage heap at landfill

Plus, the support cushions are in beige and off - white, so, a much lighter and brighter feel to the living room [ replaced a navy print fabric ]

In our ' computer room ' / second main floor bedroom but mostly storage for paper,
 we re - organized.
Gone is a fairly large footprint from a ' computer table '. This footprint was replaced by a slightly smaller but corner unit [ recycled from the neighbours front lawn ].

The result is a orderly appearance [ now, we did a clean up job as well, ditching much superfluous stuff ].
As you, probably, read, we have only 11 inch laptops plus WiFi [ of course ] making our computers totally, portable.
This ' computer room is a combination of old habits and the luxury that 2 people have of living in 2 000 sq ft.
The sofa in the room is a double pullout, so, I guess ' bedroom ' could be a descriptor.

AND I didn't realize that sitting here typing - the window is on my right. I look out on the street. I watch the garbage truck arrive ....
I observe the street scene  .. I did not realize how enlightening this would be.

  πŸ’€ yepper - up at 5:30 AM

and the call for the day, rain and cold

thus, the day starts w/ 42 F but falling through the day. As the noon rolls around, rain and drizzle begins.
As noted, the temperature falls [ quickly ] by late afternoon 30 F THEN as night comes on, maybe 28 F or lower.
Flakes are possible [ plus icy and slick roadways ]
BTW, we rebound within three days

the weather will be 40 F. combined w/ sun and light ish winds

alright ! what is the picture all about. I needed a daily image. When I tired to access photos, a window showed ' gallery '  Yeah, 9 pictures, this one was the winner

and this was ' pan bread ' day. the goal was to get bread set to eat by 10 AM. I managed to finish by 9:30. Plus, I didn't burn the bottom.

the difficulty is that there is no temperature setting on the burner. at least in the oven, you can set the temperature
whoever, I'm figuring out how to judge the done ness.
today, I lifted the edge and checked the colour three times - finally, flipped the loaf over and waited til a toothpick came out clean

' Orpheus ' Sara Bereilles
' Once Upon Another Time ' Sara Bareilles

we will get cold - er as the day progresses
and very cold tonight [ like winter ].
but there is a slight rebound coming up to 30 + F

A busy day starts at 7 AM, shopping at Superstore. Only the essentials ( beer, Triscuit, cheese ) and autre chois

I began pan bread at 11 A then exercised, punched down the dough and did the second rise.

Mayhaps, a little too long on the front side. A teeny bit dark ish brown ( OK - burnt a touch)

Thursday 22 February 2024

πŸ‘ˆ there is some finger pointing

 πŸ‘ˆ I missed a day ?
big Oops !

a sunny, non winterish day
the highlight was a 8 AM trip to Tim Horton s for ' retro ' donuts.

OK. I fell for it. great donuts

today, weather might be warmer and wetter

wrong ! breezy but unbelievable [ spring ish ] day

Friday 16 February 2024

❄ ❄ ❄ ❄fell

❄ FE 15 day and into the early evening
total, approaching 2 inches, little blowing, the stuff was wet and loose

the snowplows came before 8 P and did a bang up job
snow service finished  the drive etc overnight
I went out and cleaned the driveway approach
so, that there would be no ice at the street

reporting : our new sofa cushions are in place
the two seater has decorator cushion covers stuffed w/ the foam from the original cushions

I was frugal w/ the foam and chopped [ cut is too precise a word for what I did ], thus, one back cushion supplied the stuffing for 2 new back cushions and 2 arm cushions. Not exactly perfect but sufficient

The 3 seater is a hybrid. The cushion covers are the kind that go over existing cushions [backrest and armrest ]. Thus, we are running a comparison study.

Thursday 15 February 2024

🌨 the return of white

πŸŒ¨ the prediction is for snow today. How much ? really depends.

We shall see said the Zen Master

report : We are re - Amazon - ing our living room furniture. We decided to keep the teak wood frame and replace the cushions and backs and arm rests.
as mentioned we ordered the seats [ 2 and three seater length ] and yesterday the rest of our cushion covers arrived. Previously, last week, I used cushion covers over the original cushions and covers.
BUT [ there is always a ' but ' ]
this meant that the you can see the original blue print from the back. Not terrible, distracting tho'
so, I ordered cushion covers that zipper up. Oh ! that meant tossing the original covers and cutting the foam.
I went to YouTube and watched ' foam cutting '.
Right ! its never the same
to wit. ragged cuts and my pieces were much bigger than the ' demos '.
After sweat and toil [ no blood ], I re - stuffed two back cushions and two arm rest cushions. This made up the two seater. After the first go at a back cushion, I figured that no one is even going to know what the inside looks like. Thus, for the final pieces, especially the arm rests, I stuffed the remaining back foam and arm rests

No, this is not professional BUT its used foam and looks not bad. Maybe, in the future, a deal on foam would mean that I could re - cut foam to fit the way its supposed to
for now, ' sufficient for the day is the evil thereof '
Say what ! Well, a friend went to a Catholic school and a Brother would say that. Not sure if I got the meaning right

WHITE, right on the time. like a drizzle of little white things
exercise done. hit all the marks, Av BPM 116, cal burned 570 and 46 min

🚧 skipped a day ??

πŸš§  somehow FE 13 got left out

it was a mixed day. a little sun, a little flurries, a little cold

again, tho' we missed the big storm track across the continent from South South West head Nor' east [ or SXSW to NE ]

re - jigging our computer room which is becoming / has become less computer room. As pointed out earlier, the need for a computer  desk is fading and the footprint assigned to a ' electronic communications. hub ' is much .

Alright ! then - what is the room. Well, clerical. Files and storage for paper and, of course, a tubular corner 3/ 4 desk w/ multi levels

Sunny. Is the by word for the day. Booming sun

here we go. our Valentine s Day dinner was a meat pie. not any meat pie BUT a beef ala ' over ' ome ' or British style. Thick top crust and loaded w/ meat.
this wan't a $1.25 Swnson special. an eight inch by four inch pie is $ 45. delish !

we will get two meals and a snack from the piece

plus. since this was But' Ben, M .. got her favourite treat of Empire Biscuits [ shortbread cookie w/ jam filling and icing top ]

πŸΉtrouble in  ..... River City [ ala the MusicMan ]

well, I got trouble right here, on this laptop.
the story:
this morning, a slow startup. the Google home page was slow
like in molasses, slow.
fiddled w/ restart. then clear browser cache
then again

Oops ! last resort or best resort
Powerwash --->>>>

pain in the fundament BUT

for me, some minor add ons
I use two accounts on Google, so I needed to add an account plus my ' go to ' accessibility feature is sticky keys
having said that ..... over the next few days there will be other annoying little discoveries

BUT the slowness is gone [ or seems to be ]

We shall see said the Zen Master

alright. the processes seem back, response is solid and timely

🚠 travel the sky

πŸš    I figured that this would be different

this will be a rare winter type day when the temperature gets to 50 F

recap : got back to sleep and slept fitfully
exercised - hoping that normalcy would do the trick

the day as forecasted : sunny / warm / and lovely

πŸ‘ on FE 8

πŸ‘ this is day 2 of decompression or re - inflate time. Our new sofa bottom cushions or the seats for our two couches came vacuumed sealed and flattish w/ lumps.
Over the two  days, the foam has grown or filled out from 1 1/2 inch to 3 1/2 inch. Where 4 inches would be the ordered thickness.

We have gone from almost futile to almost there. Creases in the fabric cover remain but not overwhelming. Supposedly, given 3 - 5 days, the foam will be 4 in and the creases stretched out.

I am not patient enough for this process. Thankfully, we still have the current cushions and really can wait til the 9 th or tenth of the month

Weather is ultra mild for ' boro winter. BUT fishing friends are saying that the rivers are low. In fact, rivers are low now but there is no snow pack to bolster the resevoirs.

πŸ•° FE 7 MMXXIV

πŸ•° time keeps on slipping into the future ' Alan Parsons Project

Again, I'm using the new arrangement in the ' computer room '. Not uncomfortable just squeezed in a bit

but if thats the only complaint, the new setup is worth the agro

on the exercise front, my new philosophy is ' people are content to go for a walk ', this is healthy and keeps the body moving. Good.
For me, I'll ride the rowing machine for 10 min and the elliptical for 35 min plus the free weights and calisthenics.
So, what difference has there been in the data that the Wahoo Tickr produces.
None. Average BPM is 117 - 120, max BPM is 125 - 133

Thus, only attitude for philosophy has changed. BUT I do approach the workout, much more casually - hey !, like going for a walk

🍘 ' let my love open the

 πŸ˜ ...... door
to your heart '

sing it, Peter Townsend ' let everyone keep repeating that yo'll never fall in love '

the price to be paid
our mild snowless winter will mean lower rivers. Guys who fish already claim even the big rivers show signs of falling levels - and this was last fall and now

Thus, we are re - jigging the ' computer room '

At one time, the PC tower and monitor and keyboard setup really needed a full size desk. As mentioned in previous posts, well, the Chromebooks are all eleven inch models. These Chromebooks are stand alone devices however, I do seem to favour a monitor or TV screen.

So, the corner tubular [ free ] writing / computer apparatus likely is  the ticket. Prior to this afternoon, the sofa was sideways, dividing the room [ clumsy but neat to sit and think ].
To expedite all the changes, I took apart the cut down computer desk and slid the sofa against the wall.

The arrangement has the sofa on the east wall [adjacent to the open door, next is the tubular component unit ]. In truth, I am tight to the sofa [ in fact the sofa right arm is under the table top of the component unit].
Perhaps clumsy but recall, the Chromebook really doesn't need a desk top - just old habit and what I'm used to. B/c the saving in width is a minimum 1 1/2 ft.

I thought that I'd give the setup a Alpha one test. The other minor annoyance is that the rig to connect to the monitor hangs over the tabletop if I place the Chromebook on my knee [ faster typing ].

✒ having writ moves on ....

still gray out there, cloud cover
some sun is due today

Sunday 4 February 2024

πŸ”Š " all we are saying .....

 πŸ”Š  ..... is give Peace a chance "

our trend is supposed to continue, close to 32 F and sun for a good part of the day

" Everybody Wants to Rule the World " by Tears for Fears

and the day is colder than it looks. Failed to check to for wind speed.
However, the Giant Tiger beckoned [ this was Sunday, afterall ]. Not crowded, and stocked fairly well.
A subsidiary trip to Canadian Tire [ Walmart w/ more car stuff ] yielded a $ 22 coffee maker. Same brand as the one that failed. Less features [ non digital, non everything ] ' off and on ' button, c'esso far t tout

We are running water through to clean out debris ahead of the inaugural coffee try, tomorrow  ...... so far so good

AND, new for us  ' potato and onion crisp '. Take the spuds and use a mandolin or such to make thin slices. Onion gets sliced a tad thicker.Onions higher in sugar will cook and burn if sliced too thin.
Season w/ Kosher salt, cracked black pepper and rosemary. Or substitute Herbs de Provence [ b/c thats what we had ]

we shall see said the Zen Master
