stole Lehman s banner and cut out the ' be ready ' part

Dim day out there. Going to be much warmer than predicted 4 days ago. close to 60 w/ showers til noon ish

Big news. Ship floats. the Sewage canal is open
a Taiwanese boat did what no other nation has ever done ' shanghai ' the Suez ditch

My ' knews ', bought Chinese food at Skyland.
No. We we're vaxxed today. They shot us up w/ Fizzer water. Easy set up and well run Thnx. Scarborugh Health Network

being thankful

the tooth pain or root pain was a dull roar last night. now, barely noticeable. Still took a tylenol for sensible reasons

a warm day, reaching the mid 60 s before the plunge tomorrow to below 50 F plus rain

Got up to take a tylenol but made sure that I had a toast first. My dentist advised ' not taking tylenol < xtra strength > on an empty stomach '. Got to listen to the expert.
In the news, a ship re - floats. I was telling M that all I could think of was, me steering the bassboat trying to dock in a wind. Not much of a comparison when the bassboat weighs in at 1800 # loaded. Still funny.

CV 19 in Ontario < Canada > : we can't vaxx our way out of the rise in case numbers

Our monster Telco < in Canadian terms > wants to buy out the other monster in Telco. Something about ' there is always a bigger fish '. This possibility is akin to Godzilla eating King Kong. There are other big things out there...... but these help dominate the Cdn market

The pain in the tooth is dull to gone.

Loverly day - today. The story. Yesterday, leaving the ' den of pain ' or dentist office, I noticed that my sunglasses were in pieces. I found all the pieces, arm, frame and screw < really important >. Carefully, I placed them in my coat pocket. OK. I got home and ..... no arm piece.

Well, this AM, I went back to the parking lot and yes, found the arm. So, its 7:25 AM, I'm passing the SuperCentre < lower prices, bulk buying > thus, drop in. Of course, only the essentials - paper towel, toilet tissue, cheerios, a light quilt looking jacket < another one ? >, some bread at 30 % off < expires today >, flour, pizza dough < ala Marty > and a potted plant < for colour in the house >. $ 85 of essentials.

Essential gets a funny meaning during ' pandemic '. Plus, we get vaxxed tomorrow - maybe b/c its always maybe - as in will there be supply of vax. OK Zen Master - lets see

The pain is a memory.

Monday 29 March 2021

Sunny Day

w/ warm. Wind is light < tree tops are pretty still >

The lax scene JHU put up a good fight - go down four and come back. Then in the 4 th Hop gave up 3 goals and couldn't match PSU. Overall, I don't know what this means for JHU.
I figure the J s to qualify for the B1G Ten play - offs. Maybe win a game and then get slaughtered.

We shall see said the Zen Master.

The week is a mixed bag. The temperature is benevolent until Wednesday when temperatures dip to 40 something for several days

Lets check w/ Brett Anderson and the long range

SNOW !

March 29  => for the region S of L Erie and Ontario sweeping N and east < mostly east ish >
CLEVELAND is the most Northerly and Westerly point of note. The Cleveland ETA is Wednesday 10 PM and subsequently looks to roughly follow the Ohio Valley eastward on to Montreal and the Eastern Atlantic. The snowline barely touches Cleveland w/ 1 in or so for that Western boundary.
OK Mahogany - look up on Wed nite

Summary weather from BA at Accuweather

Mar 31 - Apr 6     mild for th lower Great Lakes basin

Apr 7 -        13     warm

Apr 14         20     mild

the Agony and the Ecstacy - the dentist. 4 months ago - the Driller put in a temporary filling for reasons of time in the office < it was an emergency > and time for me to consider the consequences of choices < b/c we are talking extraction.

The filling fell out, this eekend. So, this afternoon was sitting in the chair. I asked if we could temporary fill the hole. not smart - it turns out.
Thus, option #1 cut the tooth out b/c there is a shell of a tooth remaining.
OR build the tooth up and do a root canal and crown.
I went for the crown option. The problem came at 1 h 20 m when the second < likely there > refused to show itself. Leaving the root < if there > is a recipe for disaster < abscess - gum infection etc >.
Lucky me. We try again in a week - w/ the knowledge that if I am careless the root could crack even w/ a crown. But we try for the second root.
Now. Where exactly is the Ecstacy part. Dunno.

2 gins and a Tylenol and a prayer for tonight

Breafast is a Pancake

 ugly but tasty

I saw or found a YouTube video making an apple pan cake. Apples on the pan bottom, pour batter over and stove top ' baking ' w/ a lid. All well, UNTIL at 20 min, you flip the ' pancake ' NO the cake was too soft b/c it bent and sagged. After 2 tries - I turned on the broiler. Success. The top browned and the batter set.
I've had 2 helpings. One was the official tasting. Two was to verify the decisions of the judges.
Verdict. Delicious but ugleeee !

Rain. Maybe all day.
Oh, apple pancake - all day long !

Yesterday was sell the folding bike day.

And after dinner, the neighbour s dropped off a ' dump ' cake. Delicious !

Saturday 27 March 2021

Rainy feeling

 but should clear w/ high 50 F

Typing, coffee and eyelids drooping
the CBC sweep of news culminated in a story lauding the infectious ability of variants in CV 19. ' lauding ' ? Well, yes, these variants are good at spreading and seem to result in more severe symptoms

From Lehman s :We 💕 March   < I cut out ' these essentials for  ' > ( love the icon or symbol )

This is now 03 / 28 and I am reporting Saturday s highlights.
I mentioned that I posted on FB that I even had a folding bike in the garage. IMMEDIATELY, a ' friend ' asked for the bike.

Sir, I want the bike !  then a second post ' I really mean it '
She did. The former student arrived on Saturday. Test drove the bike and paid. Done in one

There is a massive empty spot on the garage rafters.

#2979 or life goes on

discovered last night that one of guys from our poker ' 7 - 27 Group ' had C V 19 in the house. Father, Mother and daughter affected. Mother has been hospitalized for a week.

Thats an ' Ooops '.
Rain is a dominant force to be followed by roaring winds at 25 - 45 mph. A ' rip snorter ' of a day.

From the CBC online :

Buildings made with fungi could live, grow — and then biodegrade

Is this like ' have your mushroom and eat it too ! '

The day was rain and then wind and then calm and a bit of sunshine

" if
you're travelin' in the north country fair
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline
Remember me to one who lives there
She once was a true love of mine "

You know that I'll never hear that song and not think of " Clara " the movie. Right up my alley - just enough science that I might understand but not get confused or need to pretend that I do. And trivia - the girl Clara is played by Troian Bellisairio < I believe from the movie producing family >

gone

like that ! I mentioned the surge in bike sales and use. I threw in that I had a foldable bike. Before I knew it, this message appeared ' Sir, I want it " followed by ' Sir, I really mean it '

My reply ' Dearest Lily, yes '

A warm humid day, partly overcast but building to rain for the overnight.

the bicycle re - birth

in Covid times. a surge in ridership and bicycle sales . and estimates say that the interest will contnue for years

In fact, early in the pandemic, Toronto designated bicycle lanes criss crossing the city. Transit social distancing was decried as impossible and alternates included bicycling to a destination.

Two years ago, I sold our bicycle in 2 days on Kijiji. I still have a folding bicycle in the garage rafters

Rain ? today but warm ish continues

the week in review

say what ?  its only Tuesday !  ..........

its a beautiful day in the neighbourhood
sunshine came softly thru my window today
watch the signs along the highway
you were waving from the backroads
of my memories and forever you were
gentle on my mind

' Gentle on My Mind ' a country, maybe almost bluegrass song, written and performed by John Hartford back in the 70 s. He was picking this song out on a banjo and bOom ..... it was a hit. Remains a hit

Took back the alcohol empties. Made $5.68 in deposits. Lets see - hmmm, 2 coffees
Got more suds < tee hee ! >

Took an old fixture for a wall sconce and got it to fit on the ceiling in the bedroom where the fan / light apparatus was < recall : the fan had 1 speed and 1 speed that was like the death rattle of the spiny iguana >
The label says ' for wall mount only ' but I figure that was b/c the glass windows would fall out < I hope, thats why >
Basically, we have a carriage light housing on the ceiling but no glass. The danger was in leaving bare wires hanging from the ceiling along w/ this hole in the ceiling. And it was nice to know that when we buy and try to install a new fan / light that there is power up there.

The carriage light is way better than I expected. Except for the fact that it is aimed mostly toward the bed and where else would you need the most light - great. One last tweek might be to put aluminum foil on the top inside to reflect more light down. Right now that top < really the back of the carriage  apparatus > is gold and shiny. Thus, there might not be much to gain, there.

I apologize. I wish that I did it more often w/ friends but sorry Lenovo Tab 10, the tablet. Rogers Telco came on Monday and fixed an intemittent turned annoying intenret conxn fail. The tech simply gave us a new modem. The theory is that the connection failure was the modem trying to process updates and failing. Meanwhile all the internet deives needed to find the new modem and connect. Sometimes you neded the moem pasword re - applied.
Well, Tab 10 wouldn't join the network. I spent at least parts of three hours trying for fixes. There is a hard reset available for most devices. The bad is that it wipes all data.
I hesitated and said ' password ' ? Go make sure.
Sorry, Tab 10, I inputted the wrong password. Bad me.

All is connected again

 from Lehman s banner

great day coming

When U R retired what passes for a busy day

1. Someone goes grocery shopping

2. Someone waits for the Telecom service person to arrive

3. Stone baked bread is being prepared. And I tried to use the new            stand mixer < thus you adapt and go >

4. The Telco guy shows up and right away says ' you need a new modem '. This event is great b/c all the boxes are rentals. 20 min later and all is copacetic is TV land < and internet heaven >

5. Eat the bread

On the video, the woman does it all by hand. So, the stand mixer is a new element in the whole process

We shall see said the Zen Master

The judges decision. Bread is soft and crusty. Taste is an 7.5 / 10. Perhaps a touch more salt, I was translating from the original Russian. And / or sugar. Likely salt would help. On the plus side, butters well and makes a nice sandwich. Remember : kneading w/out 1 finger is difficult

The down side - none

#2974 and my morning

coffee and typing after sweeping thru the CBC on line. Note that I'm closing in on 3 000 posts
That is one, long fence.

Please be aware that 3 laptops contributed to this string of writings. As at now, I'm using the Duet < 2 in 1 laptop and tablet > w/ the keyboard attached b/c I'm blogging < much easier typing >. For a large part of the cycle, it was the Chromebook from Dell, a trusty 10 inch something workhorse of a dude.
And not to dismiss the Dell Studio 19 in. The most comfortable to type but the least portable < weighs close to 8 #, imagine - I carried that sucker three times on flights >.
Occassionally, the Tablet is used.

However, there isn't much doubt that the Duet is the winner. Except for the detachable keyboard which is handy but small ish - all specs are superior. Both Duet and Chromebook throw a mirror image up on the big TV s and do a smashing job.

Our internet is failing us - the modem or TV is on intermittent service. Last night, we needed restart on the TV and then the modem died. This AM < after calling to complain > the modem died. Thus it was reboot again
Oh, and the cupboard door that I re - tooled 2 months ago, fell off. Nothing to do w/ the internet. Either screws to short or fragmenting wood.

Addition. I forgot that the e Machine helped w/ the blog too. Poor e Mach, it had its problems. Underpowered and hard to improve the base model. It tried. It failed.

The day is winner.

See What's New! ✨

sun for four days straight is prognosticated for S Ont

Well, took down the bedroom ceiling fan and all thats left is a hole w/ wires poking out. I didn't test the wires to see if there was a current. We will assume ' yes '. Searched Amazon for a replacement but bought a Philips electric toothbrush instead. < really ! >

I think our Philips Ultrasonic is only making noise and not vibrating. The thought process is that we originally had a stay at home handle < the guts > and a travel one. The stay at home broke. We've been giving the travel handle double duty or 5 or 6 years.
We shall see said the Zen Master

Thursday 18 March 2021

drizzle, fizzle

temperature will close in on 50 F drop tomorrow a tad but then.......
We hover at 50 F for 6 days give or take

a poor sleep. thought I'd dropped off - woke at 3 AM
and had a nodding acquaintance w/ dreamland

the news sucks
I mentioned the vax roll out and Tues was the big start up of ' mass vax facilities ' limited to those over 80 and frontline workers
'. The online system balked and needed re - tooling < or whatever word you need > and the supplemental workers hired to cover the phone lines were hired 3 days before start date and received 3 h of training. Probably, exaggerated as likely some phone staff likely got 4 h of training.

here. finger not a big problem but I'm checking daily to make sure that I can see the stitches b/c I'm most surely taking the thread out myself. I want something to grab or cut. Promise that I won't cry.

The lax front. Johns Hopkins Men lost to Ohio St by 6, beat Michigan, got clobbered by Maryland. The Jays started ranked 20 th and the loss to MU dropped them out of the rankings. However, this past weekend < yes, of finger cutting Saturday fame > brought a surprising shoring up of defence. The J s started hum drum and then locked down Penn St < sorry shouldn't have used that ' lockdown ' word >. The truth was that is what they did. Hop went on a 11 - 1 run and held PSU w/out a shot for the 3 rd quarter. no Shot not goal.
The win over #13 PSU vaulted the J s into # 15. But as in all stories of the trials of life - Rutgers rolls into Homewood. RU was scoring 18 goals a game. RU has lost now to Maryland but is a machine.

Excitement plus ! Amazon delivered a cool mist humdifier. I've got vases filled w/ water to humidify the air in the living room. Figured a silent humidifier would be good. It s cute, pale blue plastic dome and whisper quiet. Next Amazon delivery is a mouse pad < as in computer >. Followed by a multi - mixer < bread dough etc >

Lehman s says :  Supplies 🍎

Well, the ceiling fan / light broke in the bedroom. We had already put in a sensor floor light for safety and now don't even turn on the overhead. That had been broken for 2 weeks then my finger episode got in the way.
Today, switched the switch, just in case. There is power to the switch thus 2 switches are faulty < one new, one old > or I could have wired wrong. Most likely, the fan / light shorted out.
The fan assembly is 24 yrs old  so failure was possible. As well for 6 years of so the fan only had one speed out of three that worked. Actually, two speeds but we couldn't stand the noise of low. See. Ready to go. For 140 dollars, 24 years is good

Wednesday 17 March 2021

headed for 52 F

then a cool down to mid 40 s for 2 - 3 days followed by 50 +

On the finger front. The spiders haven't improved in appearance. However, we are recycling M s splint from her mangled finger. I switched to a less complicated piece of velcro and Bob s your uncle. The finger is protected and open for airing. The splint cups the finger tip slightly and I add a piece of tape over the finger end and splint to keep the splint from sliding down. Plus, I can type etc w/ the finger still, after all it is the index finger.

Showering is a circus act ala the Statue of Liberty. In 4 days I take out my own stitches b/c our family doctor isn't seeing patients in - person yet < I think >. They'll hear the screams in Fla

The day stayed as advertised - bright is the watxhword. There were flurries but no accumulation and melting on contact.

Tuesday 16 March 2021

A Dreary Day in the Neighbourhood

w/ a reading of 36 F and chance of snow flurries. wind is up stirring small trees

Technically, pink eye should be over - we shall see said the Zen master

The sewn finger is - pain free and it looks like a spider is attacking my right index finger < actually, spiders mating >
To prevent total stupidity, I taped a gauze cone to the finger so that the gauze is open above the ' spiders ' . Hopefully, the stitches can dry

Bleedin' cold out there and the wind didn't die down either- objects are bding swept along out there

Monday 15 March 2021

Chop It, Stack It, Store It 😄

but Lehman s means wood

a bright day blasted out of the starting blocks
good travel day to Ohio

the stitched finger was cleaned, disinfected and band aid covered. then the two end fingers got taped together. this is very inconvenient. aha, you'll use it less b/c its so clumsy

well, there is intent and then reality - I've bumped the dang finger 3 x already - and didn't say ' dang ' either

Follow up. Did away w/ the 2 fingers taped together. I guess that I'll deal w/ the pain on bumping.
Even w/ the trimmed down guaze bandage, last night, I did a full workout. Rowing, elliptical and free weights got used but a unexpected reslt happened. I tried doing half push ups off a bar and felt the left thigh strain or cramp. ??????? Different muscles, I guess.
No permanent strain or cramp, all seems well today. Who knew ?

Sunday 14 March 2021

Low-Tech Laundry ✨

Lehman s and their little icon. pushing clothelines, pants straighteners and hand wash plungers
Only at Lehman s where non electrical is the norm

Wind is a force today - everything is moving in the woods w/ leaves moving across the window

I'm adjusting to life w/ a stitched finger. Not bad. However, it became obvious in the treatment room at SGH that touching the finger resulted in a flow of blood like the Red river. The bandage is 4 times the width of my finger.
From the top down, there is pink eye < improving > and a tender spot where the tetanus shot went in and the finger.

BTW, JHU beat a higher ranked team < #13 v. their 20 something rating > quite convincingly 13 - 6

The finger after a shower. Well, first you remove eight layers of gauze and then peek at the finger tip. Ugly.
But no blood on the stitches and little on the absorbent pad.
I re-wrapped the pad and streamlined for the shower process. I did my imitation of the Statue of Liberty holding the torch < except it was a plastic bag covering the finger > to keep the finger dry.

Overall then, finger will heal and pink eye is not too pink

Saturday 13 March 2021

40 is the new normal

its our temperature for the next week

CBC online produced very little

Pink eye improving - slowly.

What else am I learning ?

I ended up in Emergency. Cut my finger while peeling an apple and after 40 min the bleeding started when I moved the finger.

Off to Scarborough General Hosp. And 2 h later and 2 stitches b/c the slice kept popping open. All done

You never know. TG for our medical care up here

How to Survive A Pandemic

 we are making do

There are 2 of us, sort of getting along. Steady income and getting fed. Our own home and a view from the front room of the ravine. We do have CV 19 fatigue.

Borrowing Lehman s banner :

Really nice - sunny plus wind is worrying

For Your Somebunny 🐰

 the Easter push

Just checked and we rise to 70 F if all holds true and then plummet to 40 ish for 3 or 4 days

The UK variant of CV 19 is way more deadly than the original packaging. However, a cousin FB ed me about a treatment in Israel that prevents the worst of CV 19 lung problems.
The process is inhaling a mist of a drug that short circuits the auto immune activity at the lungs. Cheap and apparently very safe. The down side is that you would have gotten CV 19 first. Still, ask the people that got ventilator protocol for lung infection symptoms

The dentist today to re - surface some teeth at the front.
The dentist says that I grind my teeth < doing damage >
Am I a worrier ? He says that I am. Or I clench my teeth a lot.

Survivor ! They even used a ' blue tent ' inside my mouth. Lots of yawning and squirty water but $ 600 later - all done

Wednesday 10 March 2021

Nearing or Crossing 60

 F degrees. Havn't seen this for a while - say October /20

Up to medicate the eye balls after an eyelid rinse

Swept thru the CBC online. To note, a LTC in British Columbia has a CV 19 outbreak, post vax. 82 % of residents got the vax but cases appeared this week. The symptoms are mild and there is no news on spreadability

And Lehman s had : Soothing Solutions 😌

A slow day in the neighbourhood, for us. Eveyone else , who knows

Mostly a good lookin' day, clouding over as predicted

On the pink eye front, I have a slight break in the skin at the corner of my left eye. A cause of pain and / or swelling maybe.

Tuesday 9 March 2021

Never

BTW, none of the guys ever comments on the fact that I shorten the rods. Neither good or bad. They don't notice or don't care

As advertised this day is 30 F already and going north of 45 and probably 50. The sun is beaming in the backyard.

Coffee on the nightstand and typing to the ether.

Are we defined by what we possess or own.... I went to Facebook and posted the question
Background. I'm sitting here and my view is a wall. 2 cupboards, a closet. And items are hung < w/ care ? >

An Arsenal section < the English football club > a backpack, 2 hats and lanyards.
I started following Arsenal < the Gunners in > 1968. I could only get updates of First Division football < now the Premier League > by buying an English paper at the newstand. I clipped pix and articles.
One time, the Mirror, offered a series of flip books based on English footballers. You saved x # of coupons and sent for the package. I was 1 short. I sent a letter w/ x - 1 coupons and offered to pay for the missing one.
The Mirror sent the package compliments of the paper. And yes, still keep the flip books. Such an antiquated technology < technology ???? is that the term >.

As mentioned before in 1978, I went to Highbury football grounds and watched the Gunners < we lost to Ipswich >, still have the program

Update : lovely day, sun and a cold light wind

Monday 8 March 2021

Now, Let s See

weather warming < check >
U.S. states easing restrictions < check >
crude oil prices surge < say what >

Along w/ 50 F for today, the takeaway from the CBC online is exactly that. We have chances for flurries, rain and freezing drizzle at various times today. The temperature is 20 F right now.

To the lead in. Oil producers announce a continuation of oil cutbacks.
So, where is the good news
Follow up to the lead. After the news on City Pulse, a financial analyst explained that this was expected.

Follow up on the weather. Well, the sun broke thru. Totally differnet than this AM.
Pink eye update is no change - still pink

On the what did you do front. I re - converted a converted fishing rod. In English, I had / have many rods bought long ago - say 1980, intended to drift fish the Nottawasaga for steelhead. Longer rods were an asset. Not in a boat. Thus, 2 years ago I shortened a 8 1/2 ft rod down to 7 ft 8 in. Worked out not bad. Then I did the same to a second rod. I got to thinking, now, that you know how do it, how about under 7 ft in length.
Aha, you say, big deal. But this shortening required removing 2 guides and swapping a smaller guide's position w/ a larger guide. I loose a guide but w/ the loss of length < one less guide is OK >. Further, the guides are glued and thread bound for look and strength.
Its hard to remove the lacquer coat on the threading and leave it looking esthetic. Oh well.
The progress report shows the guide solid and in position. I glued in a re-used cork grip. Whats next is a cover or finish of the butt end < an exposed rod tube is visible now > As well, the rod needs to be balanced as it would be w/ a reel in place.
This balancing makes long time usage during the day much more comfortable. Oh, sorry the new re - re - shortening produced a 6ft 10 inch rod. The longer rods are awkward in the boat especially w/ 3 guys and their rods.
The regular fishing partners feel compelled to bring 5 fishing rods each - YES thats 10 rods that they bring and add my three or four well, you can walk across the boat balancing on rods < NO, kidding,  a little >.
Summing a 8 1/2 ft rod is now down to under 7 ft.

Sunday 7 March 2021

To Sell Tix

you coin a ' banner ' such as ' the greatest rivalvry in lacrosse '
Maryland v Johns Hopkins
FYI in B1G play they slaughter eaach other.
John Tillman UofM coach has had a outstanding record especially these last eight years. His career record v. Hop 7 - 7.
Yesterday for 2 Q it was another tie -then 7 unanswered goals and game over. Maryland came to play for 60 min. Hop folded at 30.

The temperature now is 16 F feeling like 9 - ooh, ooh... can you feel your toes ?
But this is March of a so far mild winter, and we climb the degrees ladder for 6 days starting tomorrow. We will hit days + 50 as well. Windy today.

Covid news. Toronto or 3.6 million people crawls out of lockdown. 100 days of ' stay at home ', only essential stores open. That includes liquor and beer

In 18 h we move to ' gray ' zone rules. Be careful but you can shop in stores w/ limits, gather in small group outside and very limited indoor socializing. No personal care or dining indoors is allowed .

Canada is pushing the one dose vax for all the 4 vaccines approved. If you get one dose in the next 3 months there will be a lag of up to 4 months before #2.
A Canadian epidemiolgist is leading the information battle re: second doses. Her research indicated that the big 3 Pfizer, Moderna and AZ but esp Pfizer included results of protectiveness for the 2 weeks following dose #1. This initial period is characterized by building immunity and relatively low efectiveness. Her estimate put Pfizer at +80 % effectiveness.
Thus, Canadian the ' guinea pigs ' will test out the single dose route. ' Say a little prayer for me, Rosalee '.
We won't be travelling any time soon b/c not many countries will let us in on one dose.
Oh, well, the Cdn dollar sucks everywhere and Amazon still delivers in 2 days.
Segue, yesterday - 3 packages arrived. New shoes. A kettle. A pot < no not drugs, a cooking pot > and not cooked pot A COOKING POT for water.
The skinny. The everyday shoes that I use are Skechers casual loafers. Or three years, I've worn these in 3 countries. Comfortable and practical. They look it. On Amazon, I found a match - Skechers relax fit. These shoes are loafers rated ' x - wide '. My feet are short and wide. In fact, I can wear 4E or 4EEEE, the widest sold commonly. We shall see said the Zen Master.

I wasn't going to buy these but a reiview comment changed my mind instantly ' love these shoes, why can't you buy them in a store ' True ! - I always end up settling for larger size to fit my feet. Done ! hit the little icon and Bob s your uncle

The kettle is to replace the Black and Decker model that died on Wednesday. Brushed steel and cute w/ auto shut off.

The COOKING pot is induction compatible. Two Christmases ago, I asked for a dual induction hotplate. Why, you murmur. At the QuarterMile the electric stove is a ceramic top that is stained and uncleanable - trust me, I've worked on that puppy lots. And its a small ish kitchen and gets warm in summer w/ the stove on.
Yes, the induction top is faster and cooler. Its here right now in the basement.
I like to heat water for shaving etc b/c it takes a long time to get hot water in the downstairs bathroom. We're talking about 45 seconds, Thus, I used a spare microwave up until about 6 months ago.
The over the range microwave door broke. The cost to repair if you could < ? > was $ 140. We cheated and brought the spare upstairs. The over the range one is now a timer and clock and rising chamber for Sally Lunn bun making.
I've been carrying hot water downstairs in a thermos. Thus, I decided to use the induction top to heat water hence the cooking pot. Not all pots are induction compatible.

' I'm Confessing ....

that I love you ' Frank Ifield

Mine is that I can watch Hopkins play Maryland.
On Twitter, a feed from JHUmenslacrosse listed JHU v Maryland on B1G Ten plus < that I signed and paid for >
I skipped over to B1GTenplus and there it was at 1 PM.
Sorry B!G Ten Network
( bethca you added the game after I blogged about it ) < you wish !>

Still honing my ode to Sally Lunn

Actually, the neighbours got a sample yesterday. We'll see what they say

The CBC sweep produced ' Zoom Fatigue ' affecting workers from home. There are complaints of aches and pains. And no water cooler mob to vent your frustrations. We are now at 20 F going for 30 by afternoon. Flurries will bring light local accumulation.
Tomorrow, will be much the same. THEN the big climb over 6 days ending w/ 50 F occurs.

.... dreaming dreams of you in vain
I'm confessing that I love you
over again .........

' Comin' Round Again '

the lyrics of Carly Simon. And apparently, a problem for me. You see when I started the pink eye drops < antibiotic solution > just in case, the instructions were to use the drops for 7 - 10 days to eliminate the infection.
Oops ! I stopped after 4 days. And I'm getting tearing again - as before.

Thus, its back to drops and special hygiene. I'm using paper towels.
We shall see said the Zen Master

AND don't touch your face !!!!!! Idiot........

OK Carly Simon. She hosted Jackie Robinson and family < well, her parents did >. JR had no place to stay so the Simons' put him up for a short time. Her father is of the Simon and Schuster Publishing house.

Today is going for 34 F and tomorrow 20 F. Following are 6 days of rising temperatures, headed for 50 F or just south of there.

Did I tell you that I bought the B1G ten pass for lacrosse. $ 55 for a year of lacrosse is the price. Now, the season is only ten games per team. I watched JHU last week but their game v. Maryland is not on this weekend. Thats a marquee rivalvry and probably carried on ESPN colllege. Basically, I can't drive to Baltimore this year and a stay for 3 nights < roughly > would be 800 dollar < driving >

Without warning. Sally Lunn happened. Yepper, round 3.
Much more streamlined procedure basically b/c it couldn't be worse than round 1. Prep was layout all ingredients. The whistle sounded.

All mixing done. Temperatures were checked. The yeast needs approx 80 to 100 to rise. And butter needs to melt. The rising chamber normally called a microwave was set to go. Heating bundle and large bowl of hot water. The rising chamber needs to be moist and 85 - ish.
Its winter, so I turn on the oven to warm the kitchen. The kitchen is approx 68 F But when the oven is on, approaches 72 F. This ambient warmth makes keeping the microwave interior temperature at 85 much easier.

A slight change is in the offing. I used a heart shaped muffin tin and an aluminum loaf pan to get separate loafs. The baking time needs some alteration b/c the volume is not the same as a bundt pan. As well, the two containers will not bake the same. The heart muffin pan will be shorter and the loaf pan will also be quicker than the bundt pan.

We shall see said the Zen Master

Gorgeous S Ont kind of late winter day. Long johns and you're good.

Sally 3. Turned out best of all for flavour. One kink was the heart shaped pan had cake over the sides. To loosen the cake, I sliced thru the outer crust. No biggie - only didn't look too nice < sort of ragged >. The loaf pan try came out more easily.
Taste is great. You know, I read reviews of Sally Lunn bun and the comments were interesting. The most common complaint was how plain the bun was. Next, was how little you got. Some people said the supermarket has better versions at a third of the price.
I think price is the key.
The Sally Lunn plate is $10 served w/ blackberry preserves or lemon custard.
No raisins or icing sugar - plain and tea is extra
When the hostess described the Sally Lunn bun when I was in Bath, I thought ' hmm ! a cakey croissant, sounds plain '
I got it right.

BTW. A sunny, cool - ish day

Hop to It! Easter is Around the Corner… 🐰

Really. Who woulda thunk it !

The Covid Bunny is coming

Not nice.

Weather is holding but the wind is roaring out there w/ the tree boles swaying. However, big sun. Always comforting to see. Hopefully, w/ your woolies on, it will be alright exploring the drug store < Seniors Day - 20 % off >

Follow up. I ran errands for Sr Day < 20 % off >. Tested the new puffer w/ a nylon parka. The parka was a combo deal. The choices were a zip in fleece liner or a zip in fleece vest. Thus, you would pick the combiantion based on weather. My version was puffer jacket w/ nylon parka over top. Very light weight. And did a good job of blcoking the wind and keeping me warm underneath.
The reality was that w/ the sun out the conditions were quite comfortable if you could knock down the wind. Still, I was satisfied that the puffer was a good inner layer. Actually, the instructions say that the puffer is stand alone against the wind  < and rain >.
In the past, while in England, I've used a Nautica cotton jacket w/ a quilt vest in almost all conditions down to 55 F and found it quite comfortable. The Nautica is well designed and windproof basically. The Nautica keeps off the moisture too !.
So, I figure the Nautica and puffer is an ideal travel combo. The Nautica and puffer might be good down to 45 or 40 F all round weather conditions. Although 40F is pretty cool. The nylon parka doesn' travel as easily as the Nautica and the Nautica is a tad more stylish < more versatile >

Sent the ode to Sally Lunn to England. No one laughed and said it was a good try in langauge skills.

Serve It, Store It 🍝

at Lehman s

The temperature goes above 45 F and then tomorrow we cool down to freezing during the day. After 3 days, the heat builds back in < well, S Ontario style > as the temperature stays + 40 F for several days.

Pink is gone, babeee ! Crossed fingers. And now - second guessing begins. I've had corneal erosion < epithelial layer is damaged or roughened > and it was exactly the same trauma. The erosion has disappeared in a day OR in several days.
OK its over. TGaL < thank goodness a lot >

The initation for our new BBQ. Its smaller by a 1/3 c.f. our last propane meat blackening outfit. Well, the burgers got done. But so slow. Mind the temperature was below 32 when I started the BBQ up.

However, good to taste the burger w/ cheese bun. More will follow surely. I'm already planning upgrades for propane tank support and the grill < making it adjustable in height >. Nothing new. I've learned my lesson. Not just me but lots of folks think the same way. Why did they build it this way - you could .......... Yepper ! adapt or die

Lehman s: Make Your Home Sparkle ✨ :

on a cold day with strong wind gusts

The joys of calling your bank. Please hold

We're sorry

We are experiencing higher than normal call volumes

Thank you for your patience

Finally. All resolved

The puffer jacket got a test. I did wear a winter coat but left the coat open and the puffer did well. The puffer is not as wind resistent as the coat. Overall, very pleased

Survived the dentist. I need a hour appointment to restore some attrition. I'm a grinder and my top front teeth are capped. The porcelain is stronger than the real tooth in the lower jaw < front >.

However, survival is key.

Our American friends are notifiying us when they get vaxxd. And we keep telling them when we think that we will be eligible. We're still waiting for the how and where.

Out of the Deep Freeze

the prognosticators maintain a week ahead of very cold nights but days at or above freezing. Also, precipitation will be light to non - existent.

The news. Another vaccine, another day. A patchwork of CV 19 restrictions exists across adjacent counties in Ontario. And the provincial gov't is determined to make sure it stays quiltwork. A mishmash of ' lockdown ' us, surrounded by gray surrounded by red. Gray means a little more movement, red opens businesses           < some >. To get to gyms and theatres well - no one is close, except one health unit further east highlghted by Kingston, the city.

If you're a business owner in Ontario ' what were you thinking ! ' - there were programs to help w/ rent, salaries, utilities but Surprise it was a patchwork of limitations and promises. Ah, the word of the day, ' patchwork '. The proverbial ' coat of many colours '

Oh, the banks are doing fine, thank you - stocks and profits at new highs.

The businesses that did the best were already ' take-out ' oriented other than food stores which were deemed essential from the beginning.

Pink eye. Very mild this AM even if I misread the clock and got coffee at 5:30 - I mean, I thought it was a respectful 6:30. I did a regimine of tea bag compress, cleaning and antibiotic drops.

An afternoon follow up. The wind she is stiff. Damp out so that the cold is penetrating. The sun is prominent right now.
Pink eye was good til antibiotic drops went in. The drops sting for about an hour then all is better than pre - drops.

Anecdote. Stepped out of the Tiger w/ $85 of sundries. A lady was loading her van at the back and a racoon was sniffing her tire. I called out ' nice raccoon , is it yours  ? '
She calls back ' my little pet '.
 I shrugged
and ran as the little critter comes rambling over to me. Jumped in the cab and locked the door < I know. Lock the door. like the raccoon was going to grab the door handle >.
The little guy was touring the parking lot. He sniffed every tire and checked out all the piles litter < for food ? >.
I hunted twice before I drove in case that he was under the truck. Nope. Still surveying the parking lot.

Today is seniors day at Giant Tiger. 10 % off.  Tell you, cost me more than 10 % as I bought w/ the discount in mind. Just the essentials.
2 more hooded sweatshirts. I'm wearing them to bed so that I have a hood to put up against light and drafts.
The biggie was a $30 < 27 > for an anti-fatigue mat about 5 ft by 7 ft for the front hall. The mat will protect the tile from salt and water and mud. We've been tracking in all that stuff from the walkway for years and trying different systems to catch the crap.

And our legs won't tire as we walk on the mat
