Start w/ the

temperature and go from there

20 F on the back deck, no sun anywhere
Trees are still and branches are still

A biggie storm is due tomorrow bringing ............
everything from sleet to freezing rain to ???????
All depending on how far we are one side of the squall line or temperature divide
Messy
Black Friday weekend kind of messy

Everyone has a BF sale, including " Healthy Planet Organic " Store. Vitamins etc are 2 or 3 for 1.

Well, I got to use my Bluetooth speaker early. Merry Xmas.
More tech.
Today. Some investigation into what I have and maybe what I'd need.
Story. When I bought the Chromebook, the advertising called the Chromebook's ability to take plug ins - or dongles, amazing.
However, the best use of plug ins or other devices comes when you add a Hub.
The Hub takes the connection to the Chromebook and adds 6 or 7 ports that allow other connections. The hub that I bought has 3 USB ports, a type C port, HDMI slot, full SD slot, a micro SD slot and a hard wire internet connector port.
BUT. The hub seller failed to mention that all this plug in stuff requires power. As in, a bit more power than the Chromebook's adapter can provide.
Yep, you guessed it. You need to buy an upgrade power supply to juice up the hub and charge the Chromebook. Or you can steal the power supply from your Nintendo - that was a recommendation.

Today, I checked on how versatile the setup that I've bought can be. Namely, hook up a monitor to an 11 inch Chromebook to get a bigger display. I used the 22 inch TV from the exercise room.
The advantage to a TV is that the TV has its own speaker. Sometimes when you hook up a monitor, you also need a sound system or speaker. It really depends on the connection
However, the TV worked a charm and we went from an 11 inch screen to a 22 inch screen on the TV.

This setup today, means that we can dump the 19 inch laptop that runs Windows and substitute the Chromebook and TV.
AND I can buy a 40 inch TV for the exercise room.

the Real Black Friday

meaning today is Friday - not Thursday or Nov 22 or Nov 1

We even have Black Friday shopping up here in the ' six '

Cool - ish looking day and hung over w/ clouds

Shop til you drop
or knees buckle
and throb

Actually, not cool ........ cold w/ a bitter wind
Traffic nuts coming home

I've notice that funeral homes don't have Black Friday deals - I mean incentive is incentive
" Everyone wants to go to Heaven but nobody wants to pay the price " an oft heard aphorism ( ? )

But at 40 % off - who knows
many things start to look good

Seasonal

Happy Thanksgiving to the U.S. readers - all 2 of you

Temperature will be north of 32 but barely

We never made it downtown - pizza and wine here

Ran errands w/  a pub meal out

Something about an ' anachronism ', hmmm !
The Bluetooth speaker is hooked ( not hooked Dummy - connected to the Chromebook ) and the sound is clear.
Ah, the modern age
or getting there

BTW to my follower in Northborough Mass - I tried to send Thanksgiving wishes and your email bounced
( address not found )

OK whats next to join the rest of the world

First song - ' Thank you for the Music ' sung by Amanda Seyfried
#2 - ' Cinema Paradiso Suite ' Kaori Muraji
#3 - ' in the Bleak Midwinter ' Corinne May

The sound is getting better -- but I absolutely adore this version of ' Bleak Midwinter '
#4 - is ' the Lady Caliph < dinner > Ennio Morricone composer and the NNJO  brass band
sublime rendition

Speaking of hooked up
Something or other is always charging at our house
The Chromebook is plugged in for a feed of juice
after unplugging the Moto g5 and the iPhone or spare downstairs cell phone was down to 12 % .

an Anachronism

joins the modern age

The story starts w/ the iPhone 4s b/c I wanted ' Siri '.
In fact, 2 4s phones one for each of us.
Hardly used Siri - well, the first 2 weeks
Before that we had $50 phones from Speakout the prepaid carrier < third party carrier that piggy backed off the Rogers signal >

Then came the Chromebook or full android Chrome OS unit. This step brought in the age of Bluetooth.
Then last year, the switch to Rogers Ignite brought wireless internet throughout the house.
Supposedly 1 Gb service at max. Actually, 400 Mb is about it if done wirelessly.
I purchased wireless, noise cancelling headphones which are a much more versatile option
We haven't gone home security over the 'net b/c we don't data for our phones.
Well, wireless speakers are coming for Xmas. The speaker ( s ) is fully android and portable. I'm encouraged to take it to the beach etc. b/c it resists dust and water

BTW , its 3:30 A w/ coffee and typing
Couldn't get back to sleep
Hi, Paul Simon ' are you awake ? '

How to spell frustration "   moto g5 "
I'm talking to M while away. I was looking for the mechanic that the tire girl referred us to.
Then ' no sound '. Tried everything < except ..... >
I re - started
moved the Volume button up and down

Went on line
many pieces of advice
but bottom line
if you reset and still no sound your speaker is gone
you see there is sound through the earbuds

Finally, 3 h later
I slapped the phone near the bottom w/out the protective case on
Yes - sound
We used to get a slap near the bottom from mom - always worked back then
of course, it works now

Won't last but at least this time
James Ingram ' Just Once '
sing it Jimmy

Sunday 24 November 2019

the Truth, the Whole Truth

and then this blog

We come close, like in horseshoes or hand grenades

I'm using the big boy to type
thats the Dell Studio 19 in laptop

And its nice having the big screen
In fact, the reason that I mention this, is I just checked to see if the magnification was greater than 100 % b/c i was easy to read - looked extra big

The big boy is connected to the printer in the den that we use for an office - bills, correspondence etc
And you've heard about the printer woes via Windows and such

No scan feature for the Studio

The sun is bright and the day looks crisp
feels cool according to M who popped out to grab the paper

The day was a beut w/ cool winds and a little stiff there

The day slipped away.
and its night and bed

Saturday 23 November 2019

Slept in til 8 AM

in some households definitely a crime
here
not so

The guys popped by last night. Cards and Chinese food. I ordered the half - dish Cantonese chow mein.
Fed 7 guys
and ........  oops !
There is more , thats what more means
more

Cold at 30 F b/c the week has been uniformly warm

Sun showed up and made the day

Job List
Clear gutters - preventative maintenance
Swept garage floor - a highly skilled task
in fact, it seems I'm the only qualified guy

Went next door and failed to find why the bar lights won't go on
for D.
Stored equipment not required for winter
this means that I'll need it next week

Hey, it took a good while

As well, I improved the hook attachment that lets me clean out the gutters along the back ( 2 stories back there ) from a step ladder on the porch c.f going up on the roof < sorry Carole King > you can sing up there but I'm not stepping out onto a steel roof

Friday 22 November 2019

Coffee at 5 AM

leftover from yesterday

Yepper, couldn't sleep
What do you do ?
Blog

Temperatures will be plus today ( in Celsius speak ) or mid 30 s Fahrenheit

The story : I haven't bought boots for winter in so long - now I have 2 pair.
Above the ankle style for both. One are really mukluks or modern mukluks w/ a warranty for - 20 F.
The other as mentioned are sleeker and waterproof
I'm going to keep both.

We cancelled our downtown weekend. We chose to pick a day and even taking the taxi, the day excursion will be cheaper. And we figured that we couldn't count on the weather - and really we wanted to do outdoor stuff downtown.

The day slipped by b/c now its the next day and I can't tell you what happened

Alright, the game was here thus food was organized and the den set up
but - whoosh gone in one

and it is close to one now
problem - leftovers include chow mein for 10

I said that I wanted the half order b/c it woyld 6 - 7 people
we did feed 7
and now can feed 10 - 12 more
Let's see
chow mein - 6 different ways

Well , it will  freeze and be good
after all its half grease

Thursday 21 November 2019

Elizabeth Warren Threatens

just wanted to see what it looked like in print

The actual banner in the CBC news feed under business said ' Senator Warren a concern for East coast seafood industry '
I didn't read the article - why bother
same old , same old

The day will be alright. A mix of everything but tomorrow a chill sets in towards the evening.
Missing sun for most of the mid day

Wednesday 20 November 2019

30

gotcha. Weren't expecting that No. ?

On the back deck at 7:15 A, its 30 F. And gets warmer today
Still misty, gray and all those kind of words

A stunner of a day. The kind of day where you let your guard down or your coat and scarf. Sun beamed but the wind kicked up a bit.
A day that you needed to get out in. To remind yourself that there is warmth etc. Likely the Canary Is but for a brief mo' <  here in the ' six ' >

Thus, you ask ' what did you do ? '

Bought boots. London Fog, textured some material but waterproof. Note, not water resistant but water proof......
a lie. The label should have read ' water repellent '

I outgrew or outlasted all my other winter footwear and truth be told needed appropriate footwear.
Also, got a jump start on Xmas shopping.

I host poker here on Friday and bought some foodstuffs...... nothing healthy
I mean - they're drinking beer and eating asparagus
< not ! >
chips and chocolate - all the non existent food groups

I received a Facebook message. A former student is a massage therapist. Their clinic is four blocks away.
However, it seems like incest when a former student rubs your back. A lady of ocourse.

Tuesday 19 November 2019

the weather

as predicted

No sun but at least not frigid

Overall the day was do - able. Nothing great but nothing bad

As mentioned the week will improve mostly.

Well, did my dental check on the extraction. The word is ' pink '.
Healthy and healing wondrously.
However, the session ended like this:

Doc: all is good just heal up
Me:   and I'll come back in a month or two
Doc: yes, up to you. Option one is an implant. Option two is a bridge. Or leave it < meaning an open space back there between two teeth

Wow ! I assumed that I ' needed to fill the space '. Not so, it seems

And if a bridge goes in < there will be a space under the bridge where the extracted tooth was >

Fascinating. And I' ll have two months to consider the possibilities and live w/ the gap to see how it feels or does

Monday 18 November 2019

14

liar !

WEll, the temperature is really approx 33 F / light rain.

And definitely, the worst day of the week. As the week wears on the varying parameters will improve.
Not all at once or all together but improve.
We'll see sun and above 32 F for the whole week.

Ah can we survive today.
Errands to run. Our workhorse living room area rug needs cleaning - in fact, this may be the last time. Its served its purpose - decorative, coverall for the living room which is where we spend 30 % of our time or 80 % of our waking hours
Plus a trip to the tax accountant. A good thing b/c he found a series of missed claims.

Home again and safe

Rug delivered
Taxing done - a trade off $ 450 to get 2700

Truly an inclement day. Bonus, lunch on the way home
Now, the full picture is that we found a parking spot
, right in front of Queen Victoria's Pub. Food is hot and homey - well done - always.
But parking is like a lottery.
No ,lottery is an easier win

They welcomed us like old friends - we're not - b/c unless we feel very lucky - we often don't try

Sunday 17 November 2019

13

kidding

But it is still cold
up at 4 AM - couldn't get back to sleep

Lets see - tired - ish but awake

A warm - ish spell is coming w/ 34 - 38 F for several days. The wind chill today e.g. is 12 degrees
and
this is Santa Claus parade day
bundle up

Alrighty, I finished watching  a YouTube video on the reasons that you should buy a Chromebook or why a Chromebook is an useful device.

My take.
Using Windows the last few years prior to 2018 < date of Dell Chromebook purchase > every update and there were lots meant that some protocol that I had set up or used - disappeared ( for me, other people probably figured out what changed - not me ).

The clicher was the time that I went to edit a spreadsheet and discovered a suggestion that I might want to buy Windows writing program b/c that is the only way I could edit my spreadsheet. My spreadsheet that Windows confiscated.

I'm not computer literate the way that I see other people doing things. Its all a matter of practice and what you need.
Me. not much

To wit. At the moment, James Taylor is singing ' Copperline ' through the Bluetooth ear phones. And of course, I'm blogging to you.

Thus, yesterday, I re - hacked the main computer in the house - thats a Dell Studio laptop w/19 inch screen.
Yes, it is still running Windows. But lately, the scan function on the laptop won't connect to the printer.
And the heat build up underneath the Studio is massive.
In fact, 8 months ago, I cut a 5 inch slot in the table part of the computer desk allowing the heat to passively drop down from the Studio.
B/c I've tried USB fans to remove the heat and the fans all break or fail.
Now, I've added a brace to raise the Studio off the desk about 1/2 in for better ventilation.

C.f. the Chromebook - updates itself via the internet and there are no changes in the Chromebook itself. The updates are done at Chrome OS headquarters - wherever that is.
Heat build up doesn't exist b/c there is no machinery running inside the Chromebook. That is probably an inaccurate way of describing the scenario
But no heat !
< Emmy Lou Harris is singing ' Millworker ' by James Taylor from 1980 ?, please search this out - what a combination ElH and JT. Fabulous song and ethereal singer >
< and Vienna Teng just popped on ' Fields of Gold ' by Sting - glorious  >

Back to the scan function. Two days ago, Michelin wanted a scan of an invoice to qualify for a tire rebate. Of course, the Studio couldn't connect to scan on the printer.
However, 2 months ago, I bought a wireless HP printer. As of now, the Chromebook or my phone can operate the new printer.
And thats exactly what I did, accessed the printer through the phone and scanned a copy of the invoice - sent the invoice to gmail and copied to the electronic form from Michelin.
< Corinne May is singing ' in the Bleak Midwinter ' - yes go find this one also >

Oh, the printer was on sale for $108 but when I got to the cashier - 98 came up on the screen - that meant 100 dollars off original price.

And HP offer, automatic ink replacement delivered to your door for a cost - something like $12 a month. Not for me. I'll need ink about once every two years.

< Jenny and the Mexicats from a Tiny Desk Concert on PBS are playing now. What a babe, Jenny Ball. Yes, I YouTubed a whole 16 minute set and saved it to the Chromebook and then to my phone - yes go get this video too >

Off to put on coffee

Oh, almost forgot. I went from 4 hours of battery life on the Studio to 12 hours for the Chromebook.
And the connection from power supply is a Type C connector.
It is simple. EVERY CONNECTION SHOULD BE type C. There is no up or down - all ways work - just plug it in
Other connectors are barbaric and an insult to humankind.

Saturday 16 November 2019

12

not the time but the temperature

The back deck thermometer is shivering. The forecaster s explained that w/ lack of cloud cover - all the heat escapes < to Australia >

Brilliant looking day, just crikey cold. I can't see any leaf movement b/c they're too frozen

And to show my religiosity < ? >
for the third day for Brekkies, Christian coffee
Huh ?

Well, Irish coffee contains .............
Canadian coffee contains .............

Thus, Christian coffee contains ' Christian Bros ' brandy
a very solemn distillery

First solid meal was pancakes and weiners. The softest carb and protein combination that I could think of.
Pancakes were the homemade variety - old family recipe copied from ???? But the same that I grew up on - the way Mommy made them.
And my brother who was a devotee of the recipe
So thanks bro ' Thus, a 60 yr old tradition b/c these are the way my mom did it.

Tomorrow is weigh in - for the beginning of the New  Year diet - starting in the late old year.
Next year, I wll be lighter - yet
See snuck in the ' yet '
In case, the weight loss plan goes south or went south somehow over the last 3 days.

Friday 15 November 2019

Blissful Ignorance

a state of grace ?

Maybe, it was the 2 beers on a stomach thats had liquids only for 2 days. The thought came to me that ' blissful ignorance ' was much to be desired.
To wit. Throw away your plastic.
Landfill ?
Carbon footprint ?
Plastic filled oceans ?
Huh ?

See. Pollute and don't regret
That was only one example

the day is starting at 30 F on the back deck shade and no sun. that is alright b/c there is no sun out front either ( 7:31 A )
Precipitation can happen at any time for the next few days.
mostly light events

Well, we booked a stay downtown < no not Chicago >  here !
Yes, our city.
Not cheap and we went for ' Club ' Intercontinental rates. Really, I could get a tooth cut out for that amount.
The downtown stores are decorated for Xmas. Store windows etc.
And I'm sure we will find a bar in the business district or CBD
However, Club rooms ( on designated floors ) comes w/ complimentary brekkies and manager's cocktail hour etc.

what started the process ? The windows were unveiled yesterday.
IHG, Intercontinental, of course, were offering extra points for staying / plus my points were due to run out
One step and then another
Bingo bango - we're booked
We can cancel anytime up to the day before

Re-reading the entry, this piece is ' blissful ignorance '

Dental Daily

or the log of an extracted tooth

took an amoxilin pill
but no Acetominophen or Ibuprofen - yet.
Almost no discomfort - yet

A cold looking gray day w/ cloud cover.
Day is as originally advertised

Breakfast is yogurt and chocolate pudding. 2 cups of diluted / slightly cooled coffee
My orders for the day - actually 3 days
Nothing even resembling solid food
Liquids and not hot til some healing occurs < 24 h ending tonight >
I couldn't face lukewarm broth thus I skipped it

However, the Makers Mark
< straight Kentucky Bourbon went down a treat >
some hope for me if its allowed
AND its not
But its morale boosting

Soup and ice cream for lunch
Homemade soup from turkey stock w/ rice and veg
Very tasty
and 2 beer - forgot sorry

An aside. since yesterday, a string was dangling down from the surgery site. It hung past my teeth and was annoying. However, figured it was left long for a reason. OK
This morning, the string touched my tongue. I thought ' just trim it an inch '
took the scissors to it and the string fell out. A stray cutting that didn't wash out.
All is neat and Bristol fashion up there

Sunday we will see how the new diet worked
And, no, we are not doing a ' do over ' on this one for any reason

Wednesday 13 November 2019

No Records for Today

well, its early - yet

Based on an interview on CBC, yesterday, while driving home. That word ' yet ' is vitally important

I haven't lost any weight
Were you supposed to ?

Then

I didn't lose any weight - yet
See
gives you one more chance

not failure - another chance

As well, learned that the most brilliant scientific minds tend to have quirky hobbies or outlets

Crikey, hope fishing counts !

Trees release a compound that counter-acts anxiety and calms you.

The day will be partly everything. After we warm up.
That was a cold one last night.
The city plow came by also last night, and left a little mound < windrow  ? > at the bottom of the driveway. W/ the colder temperature, I envisioned an ice jump forming. Thus, I flattened out the mound as soon as the plow left.

A big Oops !
I felt something wiggle in the top right of my mouth.
Yes, it was bad. A crown was loose
Real loose, in fact barely hanging on
After  X rays and probing. The verdict - tooth comes out
Next a ) implant ( $6 K and 1 year )
or b) a bridge
We've gone w/ the bridge. Tooth was cut out today
and pain meds and antibiotics are hard at work ( I hope ). I'm stitched and drugged. No solid food for 24 h and 72 h would be best.
Guess that my New Years diet plan kicks in today. And I get a jump start fast to get 'er rolling

I'll be thin - yet

P.S. got a peek in the mirror at the damage or repair work. Egads, its what Doc said. The sidewall of the gum is stitched.
Drooling is the order of the day

Oh, and the replacement work doesn't start for a month. All the tissue has to heal. In fact, restoration may / will take place in the new year - yet
When I'm thin - yet

Tuesday 12 November 2019

Record Setting

earliest snow storm etc

We got about the amount that was predicted but the low end < I believe >
However, coming in a day is a cold blast dropping our temperatures into the high teens for nights

I'm running to cottage country as a favour to the new owners of the Qmh. I'm letting the fireplace repair dude in around lunch.
Assuming : the highways are cleared ( should be )
That the road in is passable ( less should be,  but people live all year on the road and some work  and commute daily.

We shall see said the Zen Master

P.S. run up to the Qmh was smooth

However, hit a mini blizzard coming home. 20 miles of  " where is the road ????? "
But there was no spray or wash from the trucks b/c it was so cold -likely 24 F or so

Job accomplished and safe home

Monday 11 November 2019

threat

I thought I'd do a donald intro

There is a snow warning so it is threatening

supposedly the snow starts in the early AM < missed so far >
and dumps 2 - 3 in but thats a mix of everything
our temperature is 30 F thus ?????????? will fall

no deer yesterday that I saw

P.S. snow is here steady fall
and 2 deer sauntered through
a doe and young'un

Here is the CBC weather forecast. That  5 - 10 cm is 2 - 4 inches

Tonight

rationalizing if you see the world through sleepy eyes then the world will be sleepy looking

The AirBnb saga. Story... we are booking a place
alright
next window ' we would like an ID photo form the gv't

then ' picture is bigger than 3,5 Mb '
took a black and white < takes less data >
' we cannot accept black / white document '

Solution : use M s camera phone
Way less data in fact, it was 1.7 Mb v 4.1
less detail

BUT yes ! they said OK

Now, take a photo of yourself
OK
Them : with this device < the laptop that I'm using >
Them : we can't find your camera device

I gave up. Shut the page down.

Saturday 9 November 2019

' deer ' Day

two days ago a fox sauntered through the backyard

today a deer
We are not talking Bambi but a full size - horned male
but limping, kinda dragging his rear right foot
He made it up from the ravine and thats 60 ft.
However, dogs come up to our tableland and this poor guy is not outrunning a dog
I called Toronto wildlife Services < in case > for advice

Weather is damp and gray but the temperature should rise over what we've been getting which isn't a lot

P.S. Wildlife Services said monitor the deer,  in extremis the police will come out and dispatch the deer

BTW - fox trotted past 20 min ago

If I'm in extremis, please don't call the police
you can imagine what they do to the deer

Friday 8 November 2019

' tidly pom

sang Winnie the Pooh

the more it snows tiddly pom
the colder tiddly pom
my toes are growing '

AA Milne ( ? )

'nuff said

And
this is still a people world

To wit, we need new tires on a 2014 Subaru. About 2 yrs ago, we saw a low tire. Yes it was a screw in the tire. The local Canadian Tire < here read Walmart w/ less household stuff >  they said ' irrepairable '.
I said fine. " Put the dummy tire back on,  please " .
I went to a trusted tire dealer < Ron Mitton Tires > and said
" we need new tires '
She: why  < love of my love, really cute >
Me: a puncture
She: lets go see
She; we'll put a plug in
Me: yeah, for sure ?

They did

Now that we need tires based on age ( 2014 car ), we are going back to Ron baby
Great price ?
who knows

this is still a people world
Costco is not people
not really

sun is out and it is cold

Winnie is frozen

Yes,  along cold day for sure

Thursday 7 November 2019

a Light Dusting

is all that I can see

Yes, no accumulation of snow
However, that didn't stop accidents or probably enhanced them
Delays were up to 100 % of time

The subway got shut down when they cut power
causing a massive displacement of the East - West transit

We are good
Streets look bare
Thermometer says 32 F give or take rising to 39

" I get all the news < that > I need from the weather report "
says Paul S.

Lessons we learn or should learn

To wit, I changed the battery in the FOB or remote control for the Honda. All went well, for about 45 sec.
As I pried the case apart the FOB was in 2 pieces
Good.
I slipped my finger under the coin battery and
..............
the lower half of the case popped open
Ya, oops !
Well, it all went beck together
The front buttons looked OK except for the ' Alarm '
bar at the bottom.
The car ran etc
But today the FOB wouldn't open the car door.
I could use the touch control on the door
but NO remote opening or closing it appeared

Alright. First off. I'm thinking ' what dummy has the lower case fall apart ' in their hands
ME

You see, I also changed the spare FOB
and No I didn't pop the lower case and the spare FOB went back together properly. The spare remote controlled everything it was supposed to

Thus, its take the FOB apart - carefully.
Open the FOB and gently lift the lower case
Ooops ! a part falls out
Oh yeah,  a loose piece of plastic in there
Patiently, I re-work the problem - trying different ways to put the FOB lower case together.

Not a chance

Went to YouTube but what to search for
" Idiot has FOB fall apart "
" I broke the FOB **** and **** "

Instead, I calmly typed ' Honda FOB fell ...... '
And suggestions appeared
" Honda FOB falls apart "
" Honda FOB in pieces "

You see - Its not just me
How many hits on the " Honda FOB falls apart "
22,000 people watched this video

The guy explained that if you don't hold the lower case tightly, the lower case falls into 2 pieces.

He showed how to align the lower case

I took about 45 sec to put the lower case back together

OK
 Lessons learned

1. I'm not stupid or am just as stupid as 22,000 other people

2. YouTube is like the scriptures. The truth is in there

3. ' the moving finger writes and having writ moves on '

Yes. the FOB is back to normal

" You're As Cold

as ice "  Foreigner ( ? ) lyric

That describes the night we had

Apparently the coldest temperature in T.O. since April 29 last.
' Frost on the pumpkin
and the little girls are jumpin' ' Phil Ochs

Back to AI. The lamented loss of the middle class in North America began when productivity < which is up and rising > was detached from need for workers.
All AI influenced. BTW donald - about 20 % of the effect is due to offshore outsourcing.
The rest is a made in America problem or whatever country you're living in
or to quote the Boss < the real boss, donald >
" Born in the USA "

Tonight and through the early hours of the morning - icy-slushy-rainy-gooey precipitation. A mess for the commute.
And coupled w/ the rising accidents caused by the 1 hr time change
Well, pedestrians look out and motorists also
a whole world of slipping and sliding

On the Road Again

I just wanna be on the road again
says me never

But here we are in the Alleganies
the lure of the casino

The weather is dreary and predictions are for worse by weeks end
The meteorologist talked of ' Canadian ' cold air funneling down
Of course, it meets ' American ' moist air up from the Ohio Valley
thats the kick start to 3 inches of snow

We'll be no where near the Ohio Valley, thus we get leftovers by the time we get home - week s end

And PBS, Frontline has been explaining how Artificial Intel devices are mining this blog
I'm giving away all this data about me
The AI can pick up my moods and predict what I will do
They are going to sic Cambridge Analytica on me
well, Not CA exactly b/c they were broken up and like fungus will gather and surface somewhere else

Goodness, they'll know that I like poetry and quote movie lines
Great Balls of Fire
Good Golly Miss Milly ( take that AI )

We shall see said the Computer Master

Reasoanble Weather

partly cloudy but looks hopeful

Very damp feeling and looking w/ the sun peeking out

Not bad but that was a chill wind ablowing

Sunday 3 November 2019

Not 2 Bleak

180 turn around
Cold yes
But brilliant sun / seems to be a breeze

The drive south to Las Vegas East will have snow for the last portion

Now guess. The most accumulation is in the wind-ey part through the Alleganies < foothills and up >.

This part is approx 20 miles - scenic but climbs and w/ drops of about 1/2 mile.

P.S. icing sugar on the trees, meringue on the roadsides. And then Nada for snow anywhere
However, at WallyMart scrapers and brushes were in half the shopping carts

And everyone said ' no snow where I live '
Getting ready
b/c they got the early warning signals, last night

Cold is the temperature

BTW - this entry is # 2480

Ah consistency
the binder material for life or
accorded to Oscar Wilde ' Consistency, the last refuge of the unimaginative '

And he segues into:
On NPR s Radio Lab, today, a special on William Blake.
The description included poet, lyricist and mystic
All politically correct. Like man he was out there

A mescaline high before they knew what a mescaline high was
One professor has spent 40 yrs, documenting, trying to analyze or explain - William Blake

" Tyger, tyger " yup that one
" fiery the angels fell "
" dark satanic mills "
" and did those feet in ancient times "

" bring me my Chariot of Fire " yes the movie title

The special discussed Blake - ites     < devotees of WB >
of course, not to be confused w/ Bakelite or
bake it light < ala my muffins >

I read Blake and thought ' they let a guy publish from a sanatorium - isn't that nice '

They credited Blake w/ ' Jerusalem ' the pre - war anthem call to battle
but H Parry wrote the music for the lines
Brilliant that

Saturday 2 November 2019

in the Bleak

Midwinter " is the title and first line of a traditional

English carol.

The words were written as a religious piece by Christina Rosetti. Later, famed composer Gustaf Holst was asked to put the lyric to music.

I've been listening to this during the summer and thought ' totally the wrong time ' for this.
Last night, I said  'crap, its the right time, now '

We're heading into S. New York in the lower mountains - and snow approx 1 1/2 in. Plus cold or colder.

Friday 1 November 2019

November is the

11 th month

Right you are a flaming genius, you're saying
Ah, but I said it first

What kind of day ? Well, all kinds of specials at the Metro < big chain grocery >. We get Air Miles miles.
Meaning each 1 mile we earn is a mile in the air. They accumulate slowly thus don't get excited

Evaporated milk was 3 / $5 BUT that was name brand or house label. Get this : so I'm looking at the price.
Save 87 cents for house brand or 1.37 for Carnation.
Nuff said

The day was bonus compared to yesterday.
However, long term effects had power out East of us in Quebec and the Maritimes. The weather intensifies as it slides east and approaches the coast - I think fronts collide as the north moving coastal ones find the ones coming cross country.

The day was grim and windy for the AM - blustery and misty.
By afternoon, things had settled down and were a little uncomfortable - thats it
Wind dropped a tad but is still rustling the branches

In a fit of something - guilt / desperation / hope
I made bran muffins,
 both w/ and w/out raisins
M isn't a raisin fan. When I goof at the bakery and forget - she picks out the little buggers w/ a fork

Who makes the best bran muffins ?  - Me, for sure
But I figure this is like Bar B Q
Which is the best BBQ ?
The one that you're eating right now.

However, its been a while since I've had a memorable bran muffin outside of this house

The raison d'etre for making muffins was that I could
healthier w/ bran < slightly as it turns out > and I use raisons
And McDonald's muffins don't even come close to mine
