Well, gradually, pull ups [ 1 / 2 chin ups ] are meshing into the routine at 40 or so. Not full chin ups until today where I threw in a couple to test.

Job 1: continue staining the deck and rail. I made a decision to stain where I could and trim and reach difficult places after. I saw that after the stain goes down that it was easy to see where the original finish is - bare. I used a mid - sized roller as much as possible. To top the day, a big roller on the deckboards.
However, there were at least two boardsrotted. I've replaced approx 6 - 7 boards on the deck and on rails in previous years.
OMFL. I needed to pull nails in 4 places. And its never easy. In fact, it was torture. Maybe, if you're strong - no problemo BUT Crikey !
The good part, I found deckboards that were lifted in other years. Some cruddy places but straight parts that are re - cyclable.

Commentary. D.. , our neighbour and fishing accomplice takes pains to produce a good photo [ sharp image and lighting ]. Also, he netted the fish. We do try and lip the bass but this guy came in covered in vegetation [ camouflage, I guess ] and I yelled ' Net ! ' almost in a panic '.
To be fair, I didn't or couldn't face losing this largemouth. You know how scarce the fish have been for me [ moan, whine etc ] then add that 3 of us had been catching sunfish etc [ babies ] in the first 2 hours or so.

We are scheduled to fish tomorrow. T/storms are not good. A seven foot piece of carbon fibre held in your hands and lightning .. BAD.
The one advantage for me is that the boat is fibreglass w/ the engine being the metal conductor. Plus on the river, we are closer to shore than perhaps out on the lake. We can be near tall trees on the land quite readily. But thats only if you're thinking - safety !!
On the water. I watch videos of fishermen and notice that when the boat is running, lifejacket on, stop to fish, lifejacket off.
I wear my autoinflate from the time that I leave the dock til home. I do fish alone quite often. Even w/ company, my autoinflate stays on.
A little anecdote. Years back, the OPP cruiser motored over, slowly. Usually, this starts the safetycheck. License, insurance, safety devices and sobriety. I swung the boat [ using the trolling motor ] and as I got close, I hear, ' we don't need to check, the guy is weaing his lfejacket ' and ' a wave and they were gone'.

Ah. As well. Speaking of simple, were we ???? Anyway. While out w/ A.., he said his wife uses a product called 'Salonpas ' an Asian, pain patch. Basically, the active ingredients are ASA and menthol. I had been using a blue gel, product, that was also, menthol [mostly ]. Thus, A.. suggested Salonpas.
I thought that I'd used, Salonpas previously, to little effect. This time. Success.
Both of these topicals, is an effort to reduce, my need for 600 mg + doses of Acetominophen [ which does work too ! ]. Got to figure, less systemic treatments have to be a better solution.
However, the instructions on Salonpas, do say ' not for use longer than 7 days '. The thought did occur - maybe, swap out Salonpas for methanol gel to switch out the medication

Yes, a gloomy start to a supposedly sun filled day. Warm and slightly humid was the call.
Visited CBC online. Reporting : Canada Ranks Last in Universal Health Care Systems [ 11 total ] and has one of the highest expense ratio for health care.
This is in the vein of how did / do we get it wrong. Crikey, we we're compared to Taiwan and found lacking. Taiwan is not perfect but delivers much better care at resonable cost.
Summary : here in this house, we have been to Emergency 3 times w/ the longest wait 1 h [ the press is quoting 18 h right now ].
We have gone for two fingers [ hand ] and a painful lower leg.
As well, there has been one MRI done.
In the pandemic era, we have seen the family Dr [ 3 times by video conference } and three times in person.
Scheduled is a referral visit to a Skin specialist and a physiologist.
That along with 2 CV 19 shots and 2 boosters apiece. However, it seems that timing is everything. Those hospital visits were all pre spring of 2022 [ when wait times blossomed ].
That is our health story. As well ,we are booked w/ the eye Dr after almost a 3 year wait for CV 19 and government problems to alleviate.
Thus, all in all, we have fared well. But been very, VERY, lucky.
I notice the title ' the view from here ' is used quite often. But this morning, I said ' the view from here ' lying half awake. And did it. Hence, this photo.

The mirror attached to the dresser is the focal point. The bedroom set was purchased in 1987 [ our wedding year ]. OMFL ! Yes, things grow old, and older.
To be fair. The whole set is by ' Pine, by Munro ' an Ontario firm. In fact, I've been to theirfactory. Wood is good, plastic brackets suck !!!! big time. I've replaced 30 pieces of plastic hangars for the drawer slides.
Lately, the last 5 years, out of replacement hangars - I've made slide supports out of small metal brackets and wood slats.
BTW, replacement hangers are $ 3 - 6 per pair - thats per drawer. And we have 10 drawers all together.
The chore list over the last 3 months has included, staining the deck. The railing has been staring us back. OK. Today, out comes the pressure washer and paint and dirt flew. I did not do the whole deck b/c under the overhang the wood stays painted and neat looking.
Now, the truth is that you cannot know how prepped the wood is til you get down there and try painting. Surprises await, for sure.
The real surprise was the filter for the pressure washer machine. The instructions remind the user to clean the filter between the supply line and the machine inlet.

Yes, the nights are cooling down.
Apparently, that cooling down at night is missing in Central California. During record daily highs, recently, the other factor causing distress is that night cooling.
Night time temperatures are in the same range as the normal daytime highs. A / C units are going ballistic.
The power grid is California is taking a beating. Already on the verge of sketchy - worse now.
The day is a peach. Sun and warm. I ventured out to accomplish a goal of this past week. Trim the landscaping cloth that I put down almost 2 weeks ago. However, practice has shown that you do not trim the fabric until the fabric stretches or shifts. See. Had to wait.

when is it time to back off ?
as you know, I've modified my workouts. I was noting workouts of 72 - 77 min, lets say, 2 months ago. Lately. though, the log has seen times of 50 - 60 min.
Now, mind, I'm still sweating up a storm. My theory is that a good sweat [ not nervous or scared ] clears out your pores - pumps up your heart etc.
Also, chores. As of the past 3 months, I've sort of let some items slide
and in all this, its remembering my father hustling around the house at 70 y.o. GUILT ? as in mega !
But as M points out [ graciously and sternly ] I am not my dad
Prime video had a series called ' Night Sky' and one episode had a 70 ish couple pondering selling the family home [ downsizing ] and even considering a Nursing Home. I found it gruesome watching.... maybe gruesome isn't the right term - unsettling ???

I reported on ' Zombie Ice ', it seems that not only do I not know the population of Toronto - I mis - reported the 'Zombie ' situation.
" Zombie ice " is that portion of the Greenland glacier that WILL melt. Atmospheric conditions, right now, guarantee the melt.
This chunk of ice is 3.3 % of the glaciation of Greenland. AND the rise in sea level is not centimetres but estimated at 10 inches [ thats 25.4 cm ] Sorry, folks. Thus, it apppears that Las Vegas is closer to becoming beachfront real estate
