" hollow-weenie " Night

The closing of the month and # 10 bites the dust

Someone ticked off a bucket list item w/ a big fish. Nope, not me.

The movie channels have filled Oct w/ ' 31 days of Halloween '
Did you miss it ? I did. Only caught the last night.

On trying to get along w/ people. I'm not good at it.

Logging in OC 29

of sorts

Fall weather for sure. Cool nights and the rain is around.

But the seasons change and so do we ? song lyrics

closing in On Hallow'eeny

I've noticed more decorations, on our streets

Last year, a few days before Halloween night, I installed LED stringers around the front sidelight windows. I felt that the light would brighten up the hall at night. As well, many years ago, I went w/ coloured bulbs in the carriage lights either side of the door.
The red light is to the right facing the house and the green opposite. Thus, as you approach the ' harbour ' as in a boat, ' red ' is on your right for navigation.

A little trick or treater commented ' I like your decorations '. In the last year, she was the only one to notice or even notice.

a Sleepy customer here

not really awake - hope the coffee tastes all right

Counting to three ( coffee spoons ) can be difficult.

The Moto g5 has a great spell checker. It works but is unobtrusive and plain helpful not a pain

Oc 21

and cold, threatening rain all day but drops fell

We go to 50 F to-morrow after a 40 something day.

The leaves are orange and red and tumbling.
Like the apples - we are crisp

Sleepy Time

for a bassboat

Mine
Again, this year, I had help. Perhaps, I mis-remember events but for 8 years, it seemed winterizing the boat took a day or 2 trips to the 'Q.
D came up as he did last year. We managed to mist the engine, change the Lower Gear Case oil, unload the boat ( fishing equipment etc ) and tarp the boat for wetter weather. We ate a satisfying lunch at Old Railway Cafe and made it home by 4 P.
Unfortunately, M tried to test me all day. I texted her but I was sending to home phone ( a landline ), Duh, it doesn't receive texts.

But a good day

Sun popped out now after a shaky start

a Change in position

the Moto g5 is becoming handy

or handier. On the list of positives :
- easier to use Google search ( recall, this is a Google platform )
- accesses texting and Whats App much easier
- the Moto has' gesture activated ' functions
( I haven't tried many but some are pretty neat )

The weather is cold and sunny. Warmer to-morrow on the day we winterize the boat and unpack the equipment

M says that I'm in love w/ the Moto
Not true but she does know me best

Not in Love

w/ Siri

or any other ' voice ' AI.

But what I hear now is ' Hello Moto ' in a lightly accented Asian voice. I'm not sure if thats a racial comment or not. But what the 'hey ' I'm Asian looking. no accent tho'

I own a new phone. Yes, a Moto g5. The ' g ' stands for generation. Yet, I didn't know that I was getting a Google powered or inspired phone. We are gmail people anyway, so no big dif.
I worried about getting my contacts switched over. No problem, baby ! The Google guts of the phone, 'synced ' w/ the gmail account.
The real problem was making sure to unsync everything else to save battery life. I've turned off all the location services. w/out data anyway, 80% of the time the phone won't know where I am.

Do ya like it ??? Yessir, re, I do.
a) comes w/ an FM app built in

b) brighter, livelier that the iPhone 4s

To wit. I watched my first ever ' YouTube ' video. And the topic was " how to text w/ a Moto g5. "
Sorta the phone teaching itself or me, how to do stuff.

Glitches or the like.

Yes, my contacts came over but for gmail not my phone contacts per se. Some adding and editing is needed.
Knocks against the Moto g5. This g5 is not the most powerful Moto ( g5 plus and numbers going up are ).
Process speed does not serve gaming well. Not us.

The sound is of medium quality. Headphones are suggested and work well ( of course ). and the FM app works to optimal efficiency w/ headphones ( as an aerial function ).

Battery life is reputed to be questionable. Some say a day w/out gaming or tunes playing. The phone says ' charge for 4 days available ' LIAR, you Moto AI

Ying and Yang. The screen is larger ( phone too ! )
For old eyes, easier to see.
I can type easily on the bigger keyboard ( my finger fits ).
Of course, slightly clumsier that the smaller iPhone 4s
( it was a small phone )

Colonialism

heard this word 15 times during a 20 minute listen thru the buds

Apparently, Canada's Indigenous people have found this term.
Right or wrong ?
But this country started as a colony and probably doesn't know any other way to do things.

Weather is cold as in ' this is October, get used to it '

I've been going to the ' Korner Pub ' as a social experiment. Rather than pay a psychologist etc, I drop in for a drink. Since being accepted as a regular - you may recall that I picked up a nickname .... and it stuck.

I've been for a pedicure next door to Korner, three times. Now, I visit a hairstylist. He's going to work wonders, apparently.

Tech and Me

we are strangers, very strange strangers

However, we get by.
From VoIP problems and solve, we move on to cell phones.
We maintain 2 sets of phones ( pay as you go ). We pay $100 ( nominal here in Canada but obligatory in the U.S. ) w/ a yearly roll over.
The cost is $ 0.22 a minute.

Our U.S. phones are by UMX ( an unknown maufacturer in Korea ? ). The ' Patriot ' is a $ 18 phone bought at the Dollar Store. The Patriot can make calls and take pictures, after that its a crap shoot. Poor visuals in the sun, NO there is no visual in the sun - what was I thinking. Patriot can do the internet if it feels like it.

Here in Canada, both phones are iPhone 4s, good basic phones but woefully out of date. The 4s cost mid $ 400 back when.
To-day, we venture off - Apple and go for a Moto g5.
The g5 is considered entry level. You might guess though in comparison w/ a iPhone, 5 - 6 generations out - not bad.
More memory b/c it can add a card, more powerful camera.
Downside is slow ( for gaming ) speed and sound is mid - level if you demand quality for stored music etc.
We use our phones for talking and texting, thus the g5 is perfectamundo, baby.

Our iPhones become replacements for our U.S. phones.

that is the plan

Days of the Working Phone

Yipee !  for now

We shall see said the Zen Master

Rain is in the air

Solving the Stupid

typical, here

We could not receive calls people calling got a ' this client is not accepting calls ' message

Five days of emails back and forth, us to TekSavvy ( our provider )
We had this problem before,  last year     and    ' port forwarding ' was suggested as a solution. The problem cleared up but always popped up, now and then.
until that is this last Saturday when it became total and constant. We never did ' port forward '

This time, to avoid ' port forwarding ' TekSavvy graciously provided an updated telephone analog machine.

No joy ! Then I mentioned the message again.
CLICK !

Two reps from TekSavvy messaged ' you've turned on your do not disturb message '
Duh ?????????
I didn't' know that we had such a thing. B/c I thought of that and couldn't find that option.

All is copacetic and cool

Duh ??? is the word

Hotting Up

and records will be set

Shorts and sandals are the preferred choice for most to-day.
I wore shorts, yesterday and was comfortable. To-day, though we'll hit 80 F, most likely. And the temperature falls off Thur and Fri. w/ the high likely hood of rain

Waking Up to

SUN

Let me guess, big whoop !
It is to us or me. Brilliant light but haven't poked my head out. Still very heartening

Remember don't call our landline, you will get a message saying that we are not receiving calls ( as if its our fault ! )

There is a self help forum and I copied the fix but our view isn't the one that the tutorial shows.

VoIP - less

our phone is run through the computer line called VoIP
we are not getting calls in

Or no one wants to call us
It sucks

I went to ' Help ' for my supposed problem but the instructions don't match the view that I get on the systems page in ' advanced set up '
They say advanced but if I can get there its ' not - so advanced '

Rain dominates our skies, April showers bring May flowers - except its October.

VoIP solutions, now, mean shipping a new ' phone translater box ' or ATA. Thus, 5 or 6 days for a replacement.

Rain, or dribbles from morning til now, dismal and gray

not so Pointless

the fear

or totally pointless

To wit, my nickname seems to have stuck.
However, it is a limited audience right now

Pointless Fear and Paranoia

in lieu of the psychologist or counsellor

I opted for visiting the Korner Pub ( for all you regular readers, the pub is real, no names have been changed to save anyone ).

Originally, M and I saw the little strip mall pub and wondered about ' how safe was it ' , it looks small ' etc.

I went in to investigate. Fear !
Nope, me and the bar tender, a comely blonde. I explained the reason for my visit and she chuckled. I had an Urquel Pilsner and left.
I've been back - many times.
Am I a regular ? I'm not sure. But close really close ....
In fact, I wondered how the guys talked about me when I wasn't there B/C they discuss everyone else. Paranoia !
It seems a large percentage of the guys have nicknames. '  C- mak '
'Crazy Jeff ' etc.
Yesterday, I may have got a nickname.

We shall see said the Zen Master

Weather got cool to cold overnight AND much drier.

Thursday, 4 October 2018

Thur October 4

and the day brings

Dark and overcast to begin, getting darker and rain fell, temperature well over 70 F. Brilliant sunshine and the breeze is up, half hour later. And the temperature will fall to 60 before the afternoon. Fall in S. Ontario.

Wednesday, 3 October 2018

Wig Wagging

the weather
we will be over 70 F off and on for a week

And no fishing this week, this is real withdrawal. We need our fix.
Weather, rain mostly kept us off the river. And scheduling difficulties.

Announcing our English visitor headed home to-night ( we hope ).

BA long Range

from Brett Anderson at Accuweather

Saw yesterday's post re: settling in and thought ' what does Brett have to say '
