💽 disco, disco ....

 💽  duck !

how can you tell that it is a slow day
actually, I've had a let down
after the angst ridden time [ approx 1 week ] digging out and prepping the grass site - well, I now can worry will the grass grow before frost and ugly weather sets in

maybe, for others, the physical and mental challenge of the ' big dig ' would not have been troubling.
but I knew the effort that would be needed and w/ out the neighbour s help [ and attitude ] - no way, Jose

and no freeze until the plants are set in

looking ahead, meteorlogically ......
sunny and warm [ grass will germinate and w/ no frost will live ]

🎃 slipping away

 🎃 Septimus the 27

up w/ coffee and typing

awake ? barely

visited the garden censtre that delivered the topsoil for the boulevard
guy was friendly and we talked about growing grass from scratch
he pointed to a blend of grass that he said will grow anywhere

all set to grass

⛑ on the boulevard

⛑ this is not construction today

however, it feels likek a major project [ it is a major project ]

Murray McLauchlan sang ' On the Boulevard in 1976 '

...Did you see them on the Boulevard

Did you see them on the Promenade
When the lights come on
They can't forget
That they ever had to work so hard

OMG  he knew about my project

the story. Got out there and dug out some edges of the sections of the boulevard - sort of tidying up and finalizing position of terrain
then the topsoil arrived
driver kindly dropped the bulk of the load two feet from the best possible
I theorized that patiently working away at the pile was best. Work a bit and rest
well, good try. A .. had promised to drop by and maybe help
and the pace jumped up about 6 notches
of course, 40 minutes later - all spread along the boulevard

a worry was the limestone screenings [ 20 wheelbarrows or so ] - I kept asking people ' want some screenings ? ' Two drivers said,' sure '
# 1 was the turf care guy [ nope never came back ]
# 2 was a neighbour. ' hey, I need fill like that '
he came back
and we shovelled the bulk of the screenings onto the truck bed

approx 2 wheelbarrows are left

OK. job is to rake and re - level the topsoil, tomorrow
grass seeds ?
not sure

Monday, 25 September 2023

🏪 as the month falls away

🏪 our weather holds as autumn descends

the story: the boulevard or interlock band east of the driveway was shabby
recall also that there was a sinkhole or collapse two years ago
the landscape company wanted $ 5 000
our neighbours, wanted the pavers
when they had finished - it seemed a shame to pay someone when the work was half done
well, not quite
however, the next door son and father said that they would finish the job w/ me
and last night, the son C .. and I completed digging the limestone screenings out.
next is order the top soil [ 3.5 cu yds ] and backfill the site
lastly, spread the grass seed.

topsoil is coming

and ads on Kijiji has people coming to take the dug out screenings

🌳 the trees on the Street

🌳 wishing you health and laughter

without these things, porbably not much else to brighten your day

swept through the CBC online

best of the best
how your gut affects mental health
no surpirses here, eat uprocessed food and load up on veggies and fruit. eat whole grains

from the Mayo Clinic

Short-term benefits

A good laugh has great short-term effects. When you start to laugh, it doesn't just lighten your load mentally, it actually induces physical changes in your body. Laughter can:

  • Stimulate many organs. Laughter enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles, and increases the endorphins that are released by your brain.
  • Activate and relieve your stress response. A rollicking laugh fires up and then cools down your stress response, and it can increase and then decrease your heart rate and blood pressure. The result? A good, relaxed feeling.
  • Soothe tension. Laughter can also stimulate circulation and aid muscle relaxation, both of which can help reduce some of the physical symptoms of stress.

Long-term effects

Laughter isn't just a quick pick-me-up, though. It's also good for you over the long term. Laughter may:

  • Improve your immune system. Negative thoughts manifest into chemical reactions that can affect your body by bringing more stress into your system and decreasing your immunity. By contrast, positive thoughts can actually release neuropeptides that help fight stress and potentially more-serious illnesses.
  • Relieve pain. Laughter may ease pain by causing the body to produce its own natural painkillers.
  • Increase personal satisfaction. Laughter can also make it easier to cope with difficult situations. It also helps you connect with other people.
  • Improve your mood. Many people experience depression, sometimes due to chronic illnesses. Laughter can help lessen your stress, depression and anxiety and may make you feel happier. It can also improve your self-esteem

lighter fare : from the CBC online, titled ' Girl Math '

But the girl math trend can take rationalizing spending to a new level.

"We have already earned $150," says TikTok creator vialsss after finding a MacBook, regularly priced at $1,450, on sale for $1,300 in a video with the hashtag #girlmath.

The girl math rationale here is that by finding the item on sale, the $150 price difference is earned money.

Thus, we arrive at the eighteenth of Septimus Severus [ or some such ]

last night, Sunday, is murder mystery night on PBS.       three hours of ' Professor T ' followed by ' Unforgotten ' and ' Van derValk '.
we sat there and wallowed in ' people killing people '

the lightest [ or least guesome ] is Professor ...

Professor Tempest is a walking testament to how dysfunctional a person can be and still get by. Naturally, that ' getting by ' bit is highly debatable. This go round, we see revealed that his perpetual ' daymare and nightime too ! ' is a composite image - part true and part invented - subconsciously.

🚈 darkly through a glass

 🚈 [ and don't know the rest ]

from Google search :

To see “through a glass” — a mirror — “darkly” is to have an obscure or imperfect vision of reality. The expression comes from the writings of the Apostle Paul; he explains that we do not now see clearly, but at the end of time, we will do so.

can't tell if this good or bad ...... ?????

cruised through the CBC online ...
you better be satisfied w/ moderate weather for the next four days .....
b/c all else is - well, crap

the ' Rant is On ' is a podcast from Lewis Black. Satirical and he can say ' I didn't make this stuff up ... its in print or on screen '
today.
An AI written travelogue, under tourist attractions, reminds  hungry visitors that the  ' Ottawa Food Bank is open today '

Further, Lewis reads an article from North Carolina. At a town meeting on the suitability of a solar farm for the region, people stood up and expressed sentiments that a solar farm will use up too much sun that should go to crops

Lewis Black ' Rant ....  ' is reminiscent of the stage monologues of Will Rogers. WR stood on the dais and read articles from the day s newspaper.
to wit  ' Congress debates a bill to provide food for the needy .......
" hold the phone, the sentiment is, that such a bill would set a bad precedent ....... "

🎱 ... for many reasons

🎱 on this day

HOWEVER, this is  M .. s birthday day

so happy 29 th , dear
calls came in from England [ sister and then cousin ]

AND - maybe, the data storage problem is ' understandable ', now
I found recent, ' saved ' documents. TG
plus, discovered a flaw in my thinking. of course. the upshot is :
yes. found what I was looking for
and can find almost anything [ I hope ]

Computers !!! Arggh.

sary bit is - Chrome makes it easy to save documents [ Chrome Unboxed, is a dedicated Chrome YouTube channel ] Yeah ! if you have half a brain

Florida, and us. We were put off this year in Jan 2023 when host rental firm at our Sunrise place - quoted a 40 % increase for 2024. The Sunrise is on the more expensive side. Sadly, much in keeping w/ other venues on St Pete Bch, Treasure Is etc.
Surfing the web, I did find [ as you know ] an unit for rent in the Sunrise via VRBO / Houzlet, for the rental price equal to our Jan 2023 rate.
Recently, an owner, offered his unit and advice ' get out of the Houzlet contract '.

You likely knew most of that, above. To wit. VRBO has cancelled the contract. VRBO has said that the host [ Houzlet ] has agreed to the cancellation. Houzlet has stated that the refund is in process. Do not think that ' done is done ' .Approx 7 business days from now - we shall see said the Zen Master

And the owner of 503 has sent along a agreement document which is straight forward and reasonable.

VRBO / Houzlet asked for 1 / 2 the rent in advance [ w/ cancellation rights pre - Dec 2023 ]
Owner 503 is asking for $ 500 as a security deposit

Plus. We mentioned M .. has health problems. All the owner asked is to kept up to date w/ her status. Really, would like a month s notice if he needs to find new renters

🌀 some say heart is just like a wheel ...

🌀 you can bend it but you can't break it  .... ala the McGarrigles

a sodden day [ betcha ya' that you don't hear that word ' sodden ' very often ]
but it is. soggy and wet
BUT the heat and humidity breaks today.

usually, I boast about the Chromebook and Chrome OS. The ready advice is, to store info / data on Google Drive which is    ' cloud storage '. This cloud doesn't use the native storage on the Chromebook [ limited ] and instead uses part of the 100 Gb that is allowed for free w/ Chrome OS.
Ah, yesterday, I spent a good 20 min trying to find where data is being stored [ so I can recall saved data ]. As it turns out, Chrome OS is saving to Drive [ good ] but I can't tell where.
There is a Google Drive section, labelled ' 2 downloads ' and another labelled ** downloads . Both work.
However, at any time, I don't which is getting the data when I hit the button ' save to Drive '.
Thus, I can find all the saved stuff but I need to search.

I'm betting that what happens is that b/c I use 2 emails [ each is an identity to the OS ] that depending on which email that I save from, then there is a different Google Drive compartment.

Ughh ! computers

Momentous day. A PSW comes to help M .. around the house and / or shower & personal care

tomorrow, may not be appreciably cooler

plus potentially, much wetter

yessiree ! humidex will top 100 [ not there yet but no doubt ]

🚖 .. a big yellow taxi ....

🚖 .......  took away, my old man ..... ' Joni Mitchell

.... and we pave Paradise and put up a parking lot

seems, that I am going the other way
take out the interlock pavers and grass over the 700 sq ft

why you can buy from China and save

labour costs - lower [ by buckets ]
shipping - China as a developing country has preferred rates

and already warm to warm, toasty out there
the neighbours have an unrelenting work schedule

Their deadline is Friday [ Saturday wedding ] and work must get done
I built the Great Wall of Me  . that was 3 years ago

to quote the BeeGees ' I'm ten feet tall but I'm only 3 ft wide ..... '

so, my Wall of Me, chest high and 8ft wide
next door has a wall just below chest high and 12 ft minimum

they win
originally, I figured, maybe a week or so and the wall comes down
BUT they back filled the wall - apparently, the thinking is ' at least a year ' before the new wall comes down

and Father and Son were out there again in the heat it's got to be it's got to be 90 + ° and it is a smoker out there and they were out trimming and you know doing all the things to make the yard look good for the wedding to come you know this this Saturday

Sunday, 3 September 2023

🚍 the beginning of September

🚍 will produce - perhaps - the longest sustained warm spell of the year

We shall see said the Zen Master

yesterday, turned out to be the semi - final clearing up of the boulevard
the interlock paver s are now down below along w/ 10 curbstones [ heavy ]
the neighbour, D .. and son hand bombed the curbstones to the backyard
oof ! what a job. And D .. would not stop til the boulevard site was neat and presentable [ based on the assumption that the area may stay unfinished  i.e. no grass etc for a while ]

Thnx for that D ..

Now, I did help. Getting the curbstones down was hard. The most risky part was at the bottom where the vertical drop was 3 ft. I stayed down there and caught the curbstone so, a person could let go and hop down. I ensured that the stone got support as each person hopped down. And I'm sore.
I could not have done their job.

BTW, the team is back out there [ minus me, I handed off some bricks til the whole crew arrived, all 2 of them ]

and it hot and humid

Just my dog and I At the edge of the universe. Well, I didn't want to bring her And I know it'll make her worse. Now I look out on forever And it must be nice down there. And they call me Shenandora in the air. Well, I'm ten feet tall, But I'm only three feet wide. And I live inside an ocean that flows On the other side. If I came back down tomorrow, Would it all be far too soon? And it looks like it's gonna be a lovely afternoon. I thought that I was going home, And all the way I kept on prayin'. I couldn't stop to turn around; Well, here I am and here I'm stayin'. It's been my longest journey And I've come through the black of night. I was tired and hungry When I saw your distant light. Well, I know this may sound crazy, But I'm sure I got here first. I'm just me, Shenandora, At the edge of the universe. I thought that I was going home, And all the way I kept on prayin'. I couldn't stop to turn around; Well, here I am and here I'm stayin'. Just my dog and I At the edge of the universe. Well, I didn't want to bring her And I know it'll make her worse. Now I look out on forever And it must be nice down there. And they call me Shenandora in the air. At the edge of the universe... one week ? 50 / 50

Soo Mi or Soo Yu. Bugger King is sued for misleading imagery

The images on menus and ads, he says, portray "a big, thick, juicy burger, flame broiled, dripping with, you know, juiciness," and topped with "bright green, fresh, crisp lettuce" and ripe tomato protruding from a "glistening bun."

"In reality, what you see when you unwrap it … would be a very, very thin and greyish looking dried-out burger with maybe some wilted lettuce, you know, popping through on the sides," he said.

isn't that the way .... the image is a facsimile of the real thing
whose Xmas turkey ever arrived at the table sprayed  w/ shellac and re painted cranberries .....

BTW. that Bugger King suit is one of 5
