" So, you've been running, you've been rambling
And you dont' know what to do
A holly golden wager , says that
Love will see you through "
Laura Nyro
What is a " holly golden wager " is this holy
As in " dressed up like a deuce and a runner in the night "
" Blinded by the Light " Manfred Mann and the Electric Light Band
In an interview , Manfred said that " deuce " sounded good
this is tough on people who listen to lyrics or worse try to understand them. Harry Chapin called it the " shoehorn " theory of song writing - kinda just squeeze it in

SH - GoS
Saw " Sherlock Holmes - Game of Shadows " - fast paced, witty and actually contemporary. If you saw the first SH w/ Downey Jr. this one continues along the same lines.
Quite an interesting adaptation in contrast to Jeremy Brett etc.
Update 2012 7/14 We were in Fla and went to the show w/ our Ohio friends ( why htis is important, I couldn't say, maybe it's like colour commentary ? )

The " Gingrich that stole SC " or come from behind Newty is looking for redemption, presenting his marriages as experiences which he has profited from

The girl that I see, trips lightly through a haze of time, my mind
Becomes the woman, a memory , memories, teacup fragile
Resilient as silk, lingers, lingering vision in time, in my mind

a Rice primer
Rice is good
Gravy and rice is way good
Fried rice made with three day old rice is the optimum
Wiener fried rice is one of the best
You've probably tried pork or beef or chicken fried rice
Wiener fried rice is the best
I don't use egg but always prefer ginger

Aha, humming " Sweet Love " by toby ????
No no no " Sweet Love " sung by Anita Baker, Easy 105.5 again
Its been running throuh my head all day
Did you know, that you can't copyright a song title
This AB whew - great pipes. Googled her and then listened on YouTube ( 3 times )
SOPA and PIPA are both being withdrawn in the houses after so many
sites went dark and people e-mailed and tweeted politicans. Fla's Marco Rubio ( withdrew his co-sponsorship ) said a review is needed so that the law embodies all points of view.
So, now they pollies will just backdoor the whole process and run it through w/ the next budget amendments
Oh well AB is still singing

" Now ain't that sweeter blindness good to me " Laura Nyro
I've been humming Nyro songs for the past week. Easy 105.5, is the oldies specialty station, as in the Stylistics and of course , the odd " newbie " such as LN
My fav right now is her " Chinese Restaurant.... " song, probably its rice envy or something - this song doesn't get air time as far as I know.
" went to the Chinese restaurant, the dog, the kids and me " hoping she means we took the dog w/ us. cuz young dog is a Chinese delicacy
(can't even imagine ..... " hot dog " for real )

From the boob tube. 1 ) Wikipedia is in danger of being shut down as a result of SOPA ( an act to combat internet piracy )
2)" transvaginal mesh " as in - you can sue if you were given tm. I don't think that I even want to know what this stuff does, assuming that I know where it gets used.
Wikipedia may be the most altruistic endeavour that I've ever experienced, maybe best classified as the reason there should be an internet. Definitely, porno sites and selling your dad's golf clubs don't count as justifying the " net ".

Cruising for bruising
Cruise ship runs aground. Actually, not many ships have disasters like this, however, rumour says people die on cruises all the time. Scuttlebutt would have you believe that a seven day cruise usually produces 3- 4 bodies ( heart attack, stroke etc ) given the age and health for most victims

The day Television stod still- DD.
Disaster day
On the SyFy channel it was catastrophic event day. Featured were " Collision Earth ", Meteor Storm " " Force 7 from Navarrone " kidding, it was something like " Category 7 ....... "
My fav was the trailer for one of these " its greater than a Extinction Level Event, the earth will end ". Now, in my estimation ELE is pretty severe, beyond that who would care .

So, favourite foods : lamb ( leg, roasted w/ mint jelly )
rice ( sushi as well )
green peas
apple crisp ( crumbly top especially )
I try to get fibre every day. E.g. to-day I baked oatbran muffins instead of my usual bran muffins. b/c I didn't want to buy muffin trays ,I went w/ a regular cake pan.
Well, you'd better appreciate the fibre b/c the oatbran muffins were surely grittier than I'm used to.
The recipe was substituted in places, Splenda brown sugar for regular brown sugar, safflower oil for canola, no cinnamon and corn syrup for honey.
Now, if I bake oatbran muffins again, there still can be some tweaking, which is probably what everyone does.
I noticed on line in re: oatbran recipes that extra soaking of the oatbran was common. I left the oatbran soaking for ten minutes but I don't think longer soaking is going to make a difference.
Overall, I would rate oatbran muffins a 7 / 10 c.f. my bran muffin recipe
Update 2012 7/14 BTW we werein Fla, at the time in a condo

Pollysci - 10-something
The papers are full of political rhetoric, the only more controversial figure is Tim Tebow ( heck, he really hasn't done much) .
However, on TT, the consensus is you really hate or love him. he's from Florida, so I don't care. Never could generate much enthusiasm for Florida anything, not even Anita Bryant or oranges.

In the Tampa Bay Times, a columnist wrote asking " where are all the liberals in America ". the upshot argument was that people want liberalism but the mechanism " Federalism " used by Obama isn't popular. Whole lot of "isms " made that last sentence.
In Canada, Liberals took a shellacking last time out.
In tough economic conditions , it really isn't hard to imagine people turning to a more Conservative, right wing type of political thinking.

"Time and Love "
Oh, he says he'll never marry
He says diamonds are a curse
But watch yourself inside next time
Or love is gonna get you first
So, this is what I'm singing in my head
You know, under the category of most botched lyrics
"So, he says he'll never marry
Says that cuddles are a curse
Tell him plain, your on the next train
Or our love is gonna get there first " by Laura Nyro
Sort of close.
The " CSI " theme, according to M
Who orange you, do,do, do do
Or, white rum, white rum, baby, right rum
IS " You spin me right round, baby , right round "
From "Bull Durham " Meat, ( Tim Robbins ) sings,
Woman they get wooly
Try a little tenderness
Crash ( Kevin Kostner ) promptly breaks the guitar
" Women don't get wooly, they get weary "

Last of the Moccasins or " Last of the Mohicans " w/ Daniel Day Lewis as - the deerslayer, Hawkeye, Natty Bumpo and Nathaniel. ( take your pick ) " Three men, the last of a vanishing breed are on the frontier west of the Hudson " kills me every time I see this caption at the start of the movie. Imagine frontier - Hudson...... and this 1757.
I've seen at least three other versions of this as well as the TV series.
Great scenery and depth shown in the filming.
Wes Studi as " Magwa " is a chilling adversary " Magwa will eat his heart "
Of course, I want a blackpowder rifle just like Hawkeye- yah, yah I know, I'll blow my face off.
I've read the book ( no, I tried to read the book ) but the English is so stilted , I gave up.
Still, phenomenal rah-rah, this is the root of real Americanism " defend our home and families ", " British absolutism " . yep.
Madeleine Stowe as the babe
Russell Means as Chingachook

MSM maybe.. tMB
The movie is " The Missouri Breaks " w/ Jack Nicholson (hero almost ) and Marlon Brando ( villain and a little bit more ). The storyline, a gang of horse thieves ( whom you get to like ) is eaking out a living in Montana on the breaks of the Missouri R. A regulator, Lee Clayton ( Brando ) is hired to end the thieving. JN as Tom Logan sets about to tweak the rancher who hired Clayton and the rancher himself. Love gets in the way - doesn't it always. While not overtly gruesome ( all the murders are tastefully done - but graphic ), this is not a kiddies western. Smaller roles went to Randy Quaid,.............................. . The promo calls this movie , the long awaited merger of Brando and Nicholson. Well, they are both in it, and share a couple of scenes however, you better like the movie for itself. Why ?
I don't know. Sometimes I fall for a movie title ( kinda runs around in my head ) and I accept the rest. The interplay between Tom Logan and love interest-daughter of the rancher, Jane Braxton (Kathleen Lloyd ? )
is touching and fairly worldly definitely not your regular cowboy - cowgirl shtick.
By titles I mean, e.g. " Sometimes a Great Notion ", Henry Fonda and Paul Newman plus " Nobody's Fool" Paul Newman, Bruce Willis, Jessica Tandy and Melanie Griffiths but these are acting gems for sure.

One thing.... and another
" We are not resigned to the shutting away of loving hearts in the ground "
This line is Edna St. Vincent Millay
Another Millais, John, I believe, painted one of my favourite pieces, " Order of Release " on display in the Tate Gallery , London.
I'm also a big fan of Georges De La Tour, famous for showing light passing through his subjects ( fingers etc ), at least, that is what I think makes his work different such as " Joseph the Carpenter "
Originally, I saw these paintings in 1978 while in London. Floored me, really did.
As well Joseph Wright of Derby did a painting "the Iron Forge " . I bought a print and thought it was terrific then one day I googled the painting and discovered the painting is way bigger than the print -so basically
my print is a portion of the whole thing. Funny, I kept seeing the print and going " Wow, I 'm glad that I bought it " Of course, they sell you the " best part " w/ the people and the action. Whats missing is the night sky , stars etc.

" Saving Private Ryan ". I cry more these days and easily, of course, I blame the death of my brother for causing this, I'm sure not going to accept any responsibility. " SPR " tears me up fierce.
Growing up, we fought as soldiers, threw light bulbs from the factory garbage bin at each other ( " hand grenades " ? ) - etc.
What were we thinking ! I mean the light bulbs was dumb and the TV picture tubes we flung at each other even dumber. War. Not so trivial anymore or fun.
When John Miller, U.S. Ranger, ( Tom Hanks ) whispers to Ryan ( Matt Damon ) " earn this " my heart drops.
Prior to this, (concerning the holding action at the bridge ), JM has said to his Sgt. ( Tom Sizemore ) about Ryan " he better invent a better light bulb or something "
There is irony everywhere in this movie.

AB - a new appreciation
We were watching the " Concert in Central Park w/ Andrea Bocelli ".
Now I've been listening to AB for years but M usually sighs and says something negative. Last night while AB sang in English and duet-ed w/ Celine Dion, M said she felt a new appreciation for AB,whew finally.
? Does he do opera, M said it would be hard if you're blind
Now, M needs to newly appreciate Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band and Laura Nyro. Apparently, I've got ECLECTIC taste, thats the nice way of saying it

" Lawrence of Arabia " a sweeping saga of one man's adventure in the desert unitng the Arabs against the Turks and the English. Sheik Ali had to be tailor made for Omar Shariff and Prince Faisal for Alec Guiness or AG could have been anyone in the movie , such a talent.
David Lean probably came close to killing the whole cast and crew in that loooong, loooong shooting schedule and unschedule.
PF: I fear you are one of those desert loving English, Gordon of Khartoum .... ( Lawrence of Arabia ???) no Arab loves the desert
OS gets to play another ideal Arab leader in " Hildago " starring V. Mortenson. I've still got a crush on Louise Lombard " the English lady " if I had been in her tent and she looked at me that way.... I don't know but whew
Yeah, if your keeping track thats NP , LL , and you might as well add Catherine Janeway in STV.

2012 arrivez
Its a new day and a new dawn and a new year, Happy 2012.
The movie " 2012 " Roland Emmerich director, stars John Cusack. The doomsday scenario based on "Sinko de Mayan " or the end of days according to Maya legend.
This role is John Cusack doing John Cusack and no one does John Cusack better.
I bought the DVD in Dec and after watching the world turn into a fish tank, I commented " Thank goodness thats over " as in its not going to happen b/c its past, then looked at the DVD cover and realized, its coming (or not ).
Well, I never expected to see thirteen. The real doomsday clock was at 11:59:58 or some such w/ the Cuban missile crisis. We practiced hiding under our desks at school. I was looking forward to drinking wine to counteract the effects of radiation.
Remember the cover of the " Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy "has " DON'T PANIC " written in bold letters
