Calm Baby

still and damp

A rabbit has adopted our backyard as its rest area at the end of the day. The rabbit used to go tearing by - on its way to ? , but now it sits and chews and grooms etc

Wild Out There

whipping trees

and roaring wind
the temperature is way below yesterday
very damp looking
and we heard rain all night

Wrist report : much improved
Cannot : twist to open jars
putting on a robe still hurts ( I make a fist
                                                         to ease the strain )
putting a belt through the pant's loops

However, I can still drink beer
And at the last minute, I got an invite Saturday to play poker. The guy next door was missing a player for his high school re-union game.
And discovered another Yeungling fan amongst the players

Settled down for now, leaves shifting a little. There were sprinkles but wind driven sprinkles only.

Yipee ! Went to the East Court and Frank's BBQ run by Jack Tsoi. How would I know ?
The East Court got a write up in the TorStar food section, last year. The theme was the old tradition of Chinese BBQ and the lack of cooks who know how to BBQ.
I ordered crsipy duck and BBQ pork on rice plus a side of pork sweet and our. BTW, every item is delicious.
This has been a paid advertisement for East Court BBQ

a Long and Winding Road

thank you Beatles

Vin - sanity, Jurassic Park, the ' 6 ' and We the North.
The slogan filled journey of the Toronto Raptors of the NBA.
Vince Carter was a marquee player for years in T.O.
the ' 6 ' for a common area code here

We now have ' Say Hi - Kawhi '

Weather is a delight w/ rain coming for two days off and on. And apparently, cooler

Sunday, 26 May 2019

BTW that Title

from yesterday, was stolen from ' Master and Commander, Far side of the World '

' He ( enemy ) had the weather vane but we had the weather gods '
As Aubrey ( Russel Crowe ) tries to explain a battle to the doctor ( Paul Bettany ).

Disaster ? Yesterday, for 5 1/2 h we lost the internet which means b/c the cable feed is also phone and TV - we went back in time 40 yrs. And it would figure my cell phone ( pay as you go ) ran out of minutes.

Aha, but service restored by game time, thus we moaned and groaned for 3 quarters and really up until the final minute - as the Raps beat the Bucks ( or ' Fear the deer ' ). In a battle of team slogans ' We the North ' beat the deer.
You know I always felt sorry the Minnesota Timberwolves b/c I'm sure that they are further North ( take a peek at their winter conditions ). However, our ' North ' may derive from our national anthem.
And the fans cheer for the ' 6 ' or 416, a Toronto area code.
Milwaukee doesn't cheer for their area code, it seems.
You know it might be unlisted ?

The weather looks damp out there but the rain seems gone.

the Weather Gods

brought us rain, supposedly heavy downpours

Not welcome news for people on the Toronto Islands facing water levels exacerbated by N winds. Water splashed around footings and flooded walkways and roads, over the past week.

My family doctor retires soon but I needed a script refilled. The el grande sized Betaderm bottle is running down and is past due date. Job 1 done.
Next a form to get my antigen levels checked for measles. I'm likely protected but I wanted to know.

And he chats, big time. Re: his father and retirement
, the over-hyping of the Ivy League schools.
All b/c #1 he noticed my Johns Hopkins vest.
My explanation about following Hopkins lacrosse post- work got him off on all the tangents.
He loved it, I'm sure.
And his goal is to sing. Learn about singing properly and singing in a group. So, doctor - singer
Neat.
I didn't win the Stella Artois stool at the pub. Every beer got you a ballot. Dave won the stool.

And the rain never went away. The skies opened up twice before dinner. Deluges really.

Lets go Raptors !
Lets Go Raptors !
Lets GO Raptors !
Lets GO RAPtors !

NBA finals bound

Slow to Heal

but I'm also impatient

At 2 weeks plus a little, nursing the pulled wrist muscle.
I'm doing the full weight workout minus the wrist flexer grip.
Pulling a belt through elicits little stings
Wiping a counter, ditto
Putting a jacket or robe on - stings

Day was sunny w/ brisk wind and perhaps a bit humid
Right now. spring at its best

Wombat Poop is

cube shaped

Bathroom reading this week includes the Canadian Snowbirds Magazine which has the ' humour and trivia ' section on the second last page.
Elephants are the only animal that cannot jump or cannae jump if your Scottish.

The overcast harbinges the rain thats due. They said showers a few days ago.
We shall see said the Zen Master

And the outburst of green continues, daily we can see the backyard filling in.
Dandelion derives its name from the French for ' tooth of the lion ' due to it leaf shape. All parts of the dandelion are useable for food, dyes and coffee substitute.
Guess who sat in the bathroom for more than a page this morning.
Dandelion was a good segue into the yellow bloom going on in the lawn. We've dumped about three pails of ' tooth of the lion ' in the compost bin. I'm hoping to get the soil back b/c the clump is 1 part dandelion and three parts soil.

and the Blog goes on

' the road goes ever on and on
down from the door where it begin
and who can say where it will lead
til weary head and weary feet
are come home again '

That is mostly, JRR Tolkien writing as Bilbo Baggins,
author of the ' Red Book of Westmarch ' or ' There and Back Again, a Hobbits Tale '
And segue into the movie re: the life of JRR.
A little dull and slightly misleading it seems.
Tolkien would not be impressed.
He could tell a grand story ( and did ).

Weather is - same old, same old i.e. Loverly, Guv'

Practising a bit for England, there. Jolly good and pip pip, mate

Day was mostly productive. Bought lottery tix, drank 2 beers < and in between the beers, got a hair cut >, made it to the car wash
and got stuck in the automated carwash. I drove in til the stop light showed on the board for carwash progress. Nothing happened so I rolled forward but the signs were dead. After 4 minutes, the attendant comes and resets the machine b/c I got impatient and didn't wait for the cycle to begin. Ooops !

Well, Susie the hair stylist / owner - did it again - she charged me $10 for the haircut. Nobody believes me that she charges only 10.
I tip her $5
Then someone said that there are $8 haircuts if you look around. Susie is way more fun. I wouldn't tip the $8 hair guy the $5.

Hey There ! You in the crowd

lyrics from Harper's Bizaare ' Hwy, You in the Crowd '

Sun - again
Breeze is up
50F on the deck at 8 AM

Laundry will dry quickly on the line to-day

Sunny in the T.O.

buds are out, the Raptors won a game vs Milwaukee

The day is starting great and rain is 2 days away. Temperatures are good to very good.

The long range from Brett Anderson at Accuweather

May 20 - 26 cooler
May 27  - Jn 2 seasonal on the edge of the cool area.

Wowzers ! You really can notice a difference in the buds, more of them and getting bigger.

Hola, muy Amigos

sorry for the fractured Spanish ( ? )

Its like futureworld, sorta, language will be whatever fits or is common usage.
Besides, making up titles is hard except for ' # 2326 '

Toronto gets a shout out. Something called                  ' Collision ' is coming to T.O. Apparently, according to the CBC on line feed under ' Science and Tech ' this event is a trade show for up and coming computer technology.
We are getting this chance b/c the organizers see Canada as welcoming and Toronto as a service location for their specific needs.
Normally, held say in San Francisco, organizers referred to several delegates being turned back on arrival in the U.S.A. b/c they did not meet immigration requirements.
Remember that I report this stuff, and don't necessarily have a clue what I'm reporting about.

Weather is like Iowa -
joke reference to ' Field of Dreams ' Quote : Is this heaven ?  Ans : no its Iowa.

Its a quantum world. Or a quantum computer made a particle go backward in time. Reverse time ? Not a likely event. But using a particle's current state a research group made a particle go back in time, 1 / millionth of a second.
Quantum computing. Well, a normal computer deals in states of 1 or 0, finite choices. Circuit boards are arrangements of gates that offer 1 or 0. The circuits are becoming smaller really on the order of tiny. Hence, our cellphones are palm size and multi-functional.
But a quantum computer offers choices where the choice is either 1 or 0 or both < depending on the circumstances >. The catch, is that as in all quantum events, you can know position or speed but not both at the same time.
Thus, for  the quantum computer team, you get the result but cannot tell the choices that  the circuit made.

Hello to Fine Weather

well, I'm calling it that

3 days of nice is good.
A little rain. A little wind
but jacket weather at least, I'll take this

In Canada, measles burst out in Montreal.
Household debt is seen as a danger. This debt is not mortgage but personal debt.
And we climate issues b/c the Feds are on track to federalize a carbon tax and several provinces are claiming ' carbon taxes ' are a joke. Ya da ya da.
And pipelines we need more but pipelines affect the habitat of everyone

The Real Ides of May

mid month

I watched the semi final jury run throughs for Eurovision. Maybe, most famous cuz ' ABBA ' won the sucker way back when.
My verdict was not bad but weirder than me, for sure.

Weather is a conglom of sun and warm and breezes and it only 6:30 A
Yepper, I was awake before 6.

To-day is rust proof day. The company is called Krown Rust Proofing. The process is a thin film of      ' oil ' that goes everywhere. I mean everywhere. The car drips for 2 days after just like a massive oil leak around your car. This is when you park at the plaza for the first 3 hours.
The inducement this year is a free de-winterizing
?????????? nope haven't a clue what they do.
Next, free tickets to ' Avengers, End Game '
This movie is destroying box office sales records and actually, getting rave or rabid reviews form the critics.

Apparently, this is # 22 in the ' Marvel Universe of movies ' about costumed characters that can shoot lazer bolts out of their heinnies.
I'm actually worried that I might have seen all 22
of the suckers. and far worse, can't remember if I liked them. BTW, no ' Wonder Woman ' doesn't count cuz she is w/ a different universe company.

P.S. spell checker is loosing its mind, b/c it seems that I invent words - or words spell checker never saw before

the Party's Over

for JHU, on Sunday night

After a tumultuous 2 weeks, the boys in Columbia blue paid the price for a poor pattern of play.
Yes, they were down early, mounted a four goal run then got snuffed out by Notre Dame.
It was too much to ask to keep coming back from 5 goals down and winning.
To evaluate the season, you need watch the roller coaster rankings of JHU. Ranked 10 - 12 during the pre - season hooforay, falling out of the standings. Rising through the later part of April, and gaining a # 11- 12 ranking pre - tournament.

The weather is damp and overcast. But not raining.
Sun is out and skies are clearing here.

Did a check at Brett Anderson for the long range. The verdict is a high pressure blocking pattern is trapping cooler air over the lower North American region.
Thus, May will be cooler than usual. Warm up is predicted for May 27 on. This forecast comes from Accuweather.

I am watching mega TV b/c the downstairs TV got improved w/ its own TV box from the Telco and good feed from the modem upstairs. And we got Crave & HBO thrown in as a promo.

Lately, I've been thinking about Quantum Theory and what could make a good explanation or starting point for telling someone about the importance of quantum.
W/out going mathematics bizarre.
As in why would anyone care or how to explain w/ references that mean something to a non scientist or interested person.
My answer was quantum entanglement. The theory that says particles that share quantum entanglement could move relative to one another [ even at light years distance, where in fact the distance would be less important than the fact that the particles were entangled ].
The movie to-day was ' Clara '. An astrophysicist wild catting for a discovery breaks normal protocol and is cut loose by institutions that have equipment, as in big equipment.
As an independent researcher he finds many roadblocks and calls on friends and the ex-wife. The assistant that he hires is a non scientist and non graduate. Talented as an artist and  capable of speaking several languages she inspires and collaborates w/ him. She is Clara.

Why is this related to quantum entanglement. The       ' planet ' that he finds, turns out to be a space station.
At 200 light years, communication would be time consuming. The ' new life ' running the space station is eventually able to communicate w/ Earth by manipulating a particle nearer Earth that is quantum entangled w/ a particle that they control ' Somewhere out There ' to quote Fiver.
The start is Morse code in particle motion ( spin ). The message is the astronomer's name.
What follows is ' North Country Girl ' sung by Bob Dylan and the astronomer's favourite song.
Fox Mulder territory. Spooky.

Reviews were mixed stating that the movie was mixed - or mixed up. Too much science mumbo jumbo and too much mushy sentimentality inappropriately or randomly dumped on screen.
I liked it a lot.

the IDES of May

or very close
I suppose the 15 th or 16 th is really the middle

And mid- May is the beginning of mild weather.
And rain to bring the flowers
and crabgrass
and dandelions which are growing like topsy out there

At least we will hit 60 F this aft barring too much cloud cover.

Holding Hands and

reminiscing

or Going to physio. Where physio lady massaged and checked my writ for 10 minutes. Then TENS stimulation and ice.
BTW - did my weights work out last night w/ a brace for support. So far so good.

Damp, rainy and words like that

the Razors Edge

a book by Somerset Maugham

or

Razor wars. Recently, Edgewell the owners of Schick bought out a smaller company, the competition. Harrys Razors Club for Men fetched 1.3 B$.
A small start-up, Harrys along w/ other mainly on line challengers to Gillette and Schick ate into the men's grooming retail sector.
I started buying Harrys about 2 1/2 yrs ago. Good shaves and reasonable prices got me interested. I guess that I'm now a Shick customer.

Weather is dismal heading for rainy days ahead. Relief in the form of sunshine is due mid-week.

May 11 in T.O.

or wasting a day b/c your wrist is still aching

The treatment regime.
Morning :  TENS pads w/ dry heat
And emugel to top off the morning
Afternoon : Warm pad and TENS to follow
and a beer

Pain has fallen from a 9 / 10 to 3 / 10 on occasion
Thus, bearable
What hurts : washing my hair
putting arm in bathrobe sleeve ( aches )
Pulled a muscle ?
Nuts

I had it figured that w/ my age there was calcification on the wrist bones and the bones rubbed to-gether unnaturally - pain !
Nope, muscle pull

Crapola, mega

Well, I've hurt my wrist before. Thus, one would expect to find a wrist brace. I found 3. Then I found 3 more. and then I found a master brace. Black w/ velcro everything
I've been hurt before

Friday, 10 May 2019

Wristing it

or twisting my wrist

Reaching for a bathrobe tie, reaching not weight lifting or crunching

Off to see the physio lady
The Dr gives me pain relief meds, she ultrasounds it or massages it but does something

Overcast and noisy out there. The parks workers are clearing timber and brush. The shredder is going full speed.

The verdict : you've strained a muscle - muscle ?
How and it so small in there
I've got muscles on the edge or whatever

Thursday, 9 May 2019

right hand typing

mostly

Re injured or its all new - my wrist. How ?
Reaching behind my back for the robe belt and Powee - the pain lanced through my lower arm
Bathrobe !

Gray out there and cool
Rainbow thermometer reading just shy of 50 F at 10 ish

to Quote the BeeGees

' Lonely Days, Lonely Nights '

where would I be without our deer ( paraphrased and abused slightly )

No sightings this AM, we are deer free

Gray and overcast but there is hope

And yes the sun burst through for the aft
no deer sightings but the city is clearing wood in the ravine - maybe the noise is too much

And no rabbits, for example in Wadsworth

Monday, 6 May 2019

Sun that Beckon Rains

yessir, glorious day

We have photos of deer ( as in more than one )
In our ignorant bliss, we took pictures of a deer
( one ). Several times for the past 4 days.
This evening, it became apparent that we are the ' doe
highway ' ( assuming that they are does )
B/c there are two for sure.

Cinco de Mayo

or sink the mayonnaise

Last night, in a shoot'em up fashion #1 Penn St beat our boys in Columbia blue. JHUmenslacrosse ( thats the Twitter feed ) put up 17 goals and fell by 1 in O/T.
Thus, a recap shows the boys of spring beat the #2 and #4 teams nationally and failed by a goal to tie the #1 team.
The Hop drew Notre Dame ( the #7 seed in the Championship bracket ). Which means that the committee figured Hop somewhere around # 10 in the final jig saw. Its more complicated than that but in very rough terms thats about it.

Boom, summer showed up. The sun was blazing in a blue sky. However, the air remained cool w/ a brisk breeze.
Beutii !

May the 4 th

be with you

Long live the rebellion

In a galaxy far, far away..... there were StarWars

The day is gray and humid looking w/ the thermometer at 46 F

To-morrow though, sun and maybe 70 +
A day to dry out

I got lucky only watched one StarWars movie. " Rogue One " which was an interesting filler story to bridge the series into Episode IV which was how the whole thing got started on the screen

Friday, 3 May 2019

Rain Cont'

and cont'....... and cont' ............and cont'

Its still raining
Green is busting out over the yard, now.

We'll hit 70 + by Sunday.

In the world of warfare or Division 1 lacrosse.
After back to back losses in the B1G, Hopkins was set to face the enemy, Maryland ( ranked #2 nationally ).
You heard it here. JHU beat Md to raise their record to 7-6 and their ranking 3 notches.
Last night's semi-final for the B1G started the same. Hop down 6 - 2. But part-way through the 3 rd Q, the boys in Columbia blue staged a 10 - 1 run and YES came back to beat Md ( 4 th ranked nationally ).
JHU now can face the buzz-saw, Penn St. Nittany lions ( #1 in D1 and been there for 4 weeks ).

The significance of the 7 - 6 mark in games, is due to the rule that a team must have a winning record to qualify for the D 1 championship NCAA. That win made it statistically possible for JHU to lose the B1G title and still be invited to the ' dance '

Thursday, 2 May 2019

Doe a Deer

in our backyard

This one has become a regular transient - on her way from and to the neighbor's garden

The day is humid and overcast to partly sunny
A jacket kind of day
but full of promise

May Day

all over the world people gather and protest or celebrate

We are eating sushi to celebrate
Damp and gray and windy
Like very windy

And the day goes on blustery and unappealing ( except to ducks or polar bears )

My archiving ( digitizing family photos in other words ) is slowing down or is stalled. Recording and captioning the photos is time killing or pedestrian

And its coincidental or not but my father kept a photo album ( leather bound w/ black backing pages ) annotated and printed in typeface. The nut of the one album was individuals w/ personal details such as domicile at the time and followed some of them for years, it seems.

Funny that, a week ago I was whining about how nice it was out and that I should have started the archiving in the ' Bleak Midwinter '. Of course, I bogged down now.
