Wud Happened ...

.......... on TV  ,last night

The program was called ' Heaven Sent ' , basically a reality TV series ( ? ). I watched the longest chewing gum ad , for Stride gum.
One hour of set up and 3 minutes of action.
Did man land on the moon / did a guy jump into a net from 25 000 ft ?????????????????????????????????
I guess

The weather is gray w/ some level of breeze shaking the leaves and branches

The Skinny or We follow up our info

When Luke Aikins steps out of a Cessna Grand Caravan airplane on July 30, high above Simi Valley, California, he will fall 25,000 feet to the ground—without a parachute. He’ll be aiming for a 10,000-square-foot, high-tech net specifically designed to cushion Aikins’ 120 mph fall. If he survives, he’ll become the first person to land a skydive sans chute, shatter the record for the highest freefall descent, and set a new benchmark for what can be achieved when curiosity meets engineering ingenuity.

Live on FoxTV.

The comments were that the force of the ' net meets man '  coming to - gether ( apparently , crash isn't politically correct here ) would equal a race car connecting w/ a wall.

Bon chance , mon ami  Bon chance !

The weather broke o/vcast and gray. We are still warm in the main but a little cooler for 2 days.

Jump . Johnny , Jump !

... for real or reality TV

On the buds last night , a proposed jump from an aircraft over the California desert. From 25 000 ft , an experienced sky diver will free fall toward a net suspended over the desert. The kicker , no parachute or wings !! On FOX TV , Saturday.
OK its a big net , 200 ft above the ground BUT .................... BUT
Only gonna take one OOPS and lights out folks.

Hilary Clinton for Pres. You go girl

Yesterday , we went to review our financials w/ a new advisor at the bank.  We are good. He gave us lots of print outs to prove it. He did them in colour which I love but he didn't draw on them much. He highlighted some lines etc. But big circles and arrows are better.

The weather continues much as described. The cause of the prolonged heat wave / spell is an inversion dome. A high pressure lid has settled over a low pressure sink that contains air brought up form the Gulf of Mexico and the desert West of the U.S. Thus, nothing can move. Now , this was the explanation a week ago , I'm not sure if it still applies to to - day's forecast.

Name the day

... I'm always watching the news feed for announcements re:what 'Day '  name the day celebrates

To -day is World Hepatitis Day. I'm assuming that this means that you get vaccinated or tested AND not come down w/ it.
The stats for Canada , show 600 000 affected persons w/ 1 / 2 of them not aware  that they have Hep. In U.S. terms ,   that likely means 6 million affected   ( roughly 10 X the population incl Donald Trump )

The weather continues w/ heat and humidity. Full sun and a little breeze. Sun worshippers are in 7 th heaven.

A downpour erupted over our heads ,yesterday , late afternoon. A gusher came down. The crap in the gutters got washed to the downspouts. I went out and drowned in hat and jacket. Twice , I cleaned out the gutters.  BTW , my shoes are still draining and the jacket is semi damp.  TG , for the hat.
The water between the houses was a cascade of riverine proportions.
However , the gutters are cleaned out.

The aluminum ladder is unharmed.

' Budding ' News

.... on the earphones , last night

CBC has a radio show ' As It Happens ' , they air anything.
To wit , the ' Mosquito Killing ' Champion was crowned this Mon.
The Swede killed ( squished ) 135 mossies in 15 min.
The format : they send the fifty idiots , contestants into a field of long grass. The winner wore dark clothing and tried to sweat ( attractant  ). You get an official bottle and put your victims in the bottle. The critters have to be recognizable  , thus squish not squash.
The winner claimed he also was bit 200 + times on the legs.
The prize was $ 1500 ( I think , they gave it in Krona )

I'm entering the first ever ' deerfly killing ' contest when its held.
My advantage , I'm a deerfly attractant magnet. The little biters come from all parts of the river to get me.
This phenomena would also apply to horseflies , 'ceptin ' , they hurt way worse.

Weather : continues hotter than normal ,to - day slightly less humid but it will build. the week end is slightly cooler but warms again.

Eat your Omega - 3 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

or else !                         See thats a threat ...........

Did it work ?

Your Thyroid can burn

......... more fat

How ?? Eat Omega - 3 , from salmon , anchovies and sardines
which are the best but canned albacore tuna is OK.

A Captain America cocktail : add muddled blueberries ( squish 'em ) , 1 oz  blueberry vodka , 1/2 oz raspberry liquer and 1/4 oz simple syrup - splash w/ lemon juice and add soda

Its red - white - blue , of course.

These tidbits from WW

We got rain over night on Mon ( Sun night and Mon AM )
not eough apparently. The conservation authority guesses that an inch of rain for 6 days spread out a bit , would replenish groundwater levels
Basically ,if your lawn is green - you are doing something wrong for the environment.

Continues hot and building humidity to come

Windows 10 Redux

lets be honest here
I can often be easily impressed , only to find later , problems occur

That being said W10 is magic
To wit , I'm sitting here typing on Travel ( i.e. baby laptop ) and its fun
Why ? B/c , Travel starts fast and loads programs e.g. g mail . quickly. Going back , say , 4 weeks - g mail would have taken 2 - 3 minutes to fully load and stop putting up notices such as ' Something is wrong , we are checking '
To - day , g mail was 30 seconds loading. That may not sound fast to you and your tablet or whatever but Golly ! Magic

Lets review. Baby laptop cost $130 after rebates and I've paid for upgrades to Windows 7 Premium Home , upgrade memory , installed SSD and a new battery. Total upgrade cost , estimating here at $ 340 Cdn.
At to -day's prices , I could get a slightly better model re: higher memory and perhaps a little faster but SSD's usually come w/ models that start around $ 600 if you are lucky.

Why ? a laptop. Well , this Travel has USB 2 ports and other ports that I still find convenient. Aren't there other ways to connect. Certainly , but some peripherals ( neat , eh , see how I can throw around techie lingo ) still need these ports.
And somehow , the touchpad that came back from memory wipe extremely difficult to use is back to its old self and gliding around like crazy

Yes    Yes    Yes

This AM. Grabbed the Travel , started up - checked emails and bingo bango began blogging.
Great you say , more drivel from the s GWN.

We shall see said the Zen master

Upcoming , is a fishing day w/ one of the fellows from the trip to S. Carolina. He is younger , crap they all are.
At least he's the cook guy. Always brings food and he does great meals.
Me , I pick up a chicken meal deal at the chicken store ( actually called Three Roads Farm Store but , guess what its a chicken farm ). The meal deal is BBQ chicken  , pie , rolls and salad. Good for me.

Weather : H/H for sure. rain is a distant dream. Forecast says 5 more days and its been 4 already , of heat alert days.
I broke down and watered the front yard this week . And right now , the sprinkler is going , in the back.
I don't normally water but I read that a month is long enough for the grass to stay dormant. Figured the blades need some relief. Besides , I've arranged so that the flowers are getting some water , too !

and the whole world is on your case
I would offer you , a warm embrace

No Go

... my skin isn't firmer , how about yours ?

Apparently . my estimate of 5 days of H/H was correct but now its stretched into 7 days , give or take
No Rain , in the cards

All computers up and running , A 1

' WW ' Contribution

from the pages of the grocery store , front rack purchase

I discovered that I can have a clearer complexion and firm skin on my buttocks and upper arms.

Actually ,some helpful hints
walk around the room while watching TV - yes , getting up and moving rather than sitting continuously will strengthen your heart and lungs , as well as stretch muscles

IHOP ( International House of Pancakes ) started in suburban LA , CA. IHOP was a smash success. However , IHOP s big break through came w/ the ' dieters ' menu.

BTW - I'm typing on the baby laptop , apparently while switching from Windows 7 to 10 , baby laptop got re - named to ' Travel ' which isn't what I chose ( I think ) but is , so appropriate.

The verdict -    un - freaking - believable. Not perfect but all functions work smoother and faster.
To wit , the touch pad ' mouse ' turned less sensitive after the memory wipe 2 weeks ago. SOLVED , touchpad is easy to use.
Programs load way faster than before Windows 10.

Now, during the wipe out , I lost all the ' bookmarks ' , not lost but saved on the back up. Truth , haven't missed any so far.
For instance , to get to this blog , I typed in the URL. And, I might as well have gone in through ' g mail ' b/c I had to sign in there anyway.

All is copacetic
of course, I'm feeling like a genius , right now

The upshot , we keep baby laptop or Travel for a while longer

Thank you Windows 10

BTW , WW said nothing about Windows 10

Do you have ' low battery ' anxiety syndrome. Apparently ,70 % of cell phone users suffer from LBA ,esp when  the phone drops below 20 %.
20 % ????
I'm anxious at 80 %

Windows 10

Microsoft and 'net advisors did not lie , W10 is a good OS
Why
It seems to be more efficient.
thus , it works on the main laptop ( I'm typing on it now )

Of course , try it on the mobile , baby laptop of bargain fame

Well !

After trying to load via the WiFi connection 12 h and nada
I managed to connect via ethernet , let the sucker run all night and woke up to W10 almost ready to install
One app needed uninstalling which was OK b/c the app was a left over from the hard drive wipe job in which we tried to speed up or de - clog the baby laptop - marginally successful

Alright , you're asking why not buy a replacement for baby laptop
STUBBORN
I won't give up on the baby laptop til all is lost

When my father was in rehab ( 2004 ) , a outreach nurse commented ' sometimes the senior needs to fail completely before they see the alternative '

Thus , W10

We shall see said the Zen master

Everything was hunky dorey using the ethernet connection but WiFi powered
?????????????

Weather is sunny and cool ish w/ little humidity
H/H all comes back Thur and builds for 5 days

Oh ,bought ' Womans World ' again
more advice from WW soon

Giving You the Long Range Forecast

JU 25 - 31 seasonable N of L ON and very warm S of Great Lakes
AU 1 - 7   drier N of L ON , seasonable , Sof the Great Lakes
AU 8 - 14  dry and very warm for area covering the Great Lakes

This info is from the long range forecast maps produced by Brett Anderson at Accuweather. And is solely for the amusement and education of followers of this blog.

The upshot is that our grass is a brown carpet and will stay a brown carpet ( if you got grass and not mud )

From ' Woman's World ' , the $ 2.40 magazine form the supermarket rack.  Cheerios started as ' Cheerioats ' back in 1941.

The cereal is made when heated balls of dough are shot out of a       ' puffing gun' at 100 miles per hour. This fact was used to coin the term ' fast food '.

Chocolate boosts brain health w/ anti - oxidants. Subjects were able to more easily remember facts and reason out problems.

To - day , we can expect warm and warmer w/ fairly high humidity
the humidex may hit 90

Bytes and All

.... computer log

Alright fell for the hype and pressure
Microsoft is offering a free upgrade to Windows 10 OS
Comments on the 'net range from about time to ' wondrous '
The release date was last July and improvements and add ons have been welcome

I thought my home laptop was adequate in terms of memory ans speed
Thoroughly expected some blow back e.g. lag time and mis - matches w/ existing software

So far , log on and start up have been normal
Real plus events are :
1. Windows 7 ( previous OS ) could not load a ' patch ' or update from years ago , thus we kept getting ' could not install B000..... or some such --- all corrected

I disabled or removed from shortcuts about 6 apps that would never be used ( I think )
Well ,yesterday a window pops up ' several start up programs use large data inputs and you are not using them '
Golly gee ! information that I can use
Got into settings for start up and disabled some more programs
So . when the electric bill can't be downloaded , we will know why , right !

And back up was going badly , started 3 times and got to where there was 60 % back up after 4 hrs and said ' crap ' and shut the back up down.
Last night went to bed and left ' back up ' running.
finished the whole back up in 4 h something

All is good in computer world for now

We shall see said the Zen Master

Weather , sunny and dry but going to change over the next 3 days

Aha......

.... a singing group from the 80's - smash hit ' Take on Me '

The morning broke overcast and cool ish but will warm.
The H/H is gone for now.
And we got rain
Hate to keep going on about it but we have come up short by a lot

Is it raining enough where you are ?

Triviata : i Tunes started in 2003 and by 2013 , 25 billion songs had been downloaded
None by me !
I keep meaning to
I even have a list of my top 100 songs
or top 76 or so
" one day when you're feeling low " song by the Jaguars

Windows 10 is working out. The laptop loads as fast as before and some glitches that were constantly ,trying to correct themselves are gone. Likely to be replaced by other glitches but for now , all is well in computerville

We shall see said the Zen Master

I tried to back up the files but something was wrong.
I read the instructions after I'd started to back up
Wiser now I'll try again

' We Have Nothing to Fear .....

.......... oh , really !

I kept saying that I don't need Windows 10 OS. The original feedback was fair to good. However , Microsoft has been tweaking the system and seems to have many pundits on their side ( finally )

Yesterday , I downloaded W10.
Long process of some 1 1/2 h w/ many prompts and encouragements , as in ' you'll really love this feature ' etc

All said and done - no damage
Faster ???
Better ????
Dunno

Seems to work
I cut out the first 6 features e.g. making notes on the web article itself , that is embedded in the article

BTW , one of the prizes in the pyramid contest for Shoppers Drug Mart is an ' android ' tablet
Woo hoo , might be mine
Who knows

Weather , produced rain last night but the H/H is gone
A bright cool , dry AM , here

The Trivia of Life

mostly , mine

watching the comedy channel , a segment had Steve Martin , actor , art enthusiast ( he champions the works of Canadian artist Lawren Harris ) and musician. Part of his musical number was a paean to atheists - in fact an atheist's hymn b/c they don't have spiritual works.
The best line ' they got Sundays free ' ( atheists , that is )

We collect Air Miles as a religion , our common purchases food and alcohol come from sponsors of Air Miles. We save like little banshees. So far , three flights and 2 BBQs and and a 48 " TV have come via AirMiles.
The bad part , generally , is taxes must be paid in cash  ( airport fees ). the good part is free delivery and no taxes of goods.

As well , we collect Optimum points from Shoppers Drug Mart which is the counterpart to Wahlgreens and CVS in  the States.
And Shoppers is running a play for pay contest. You receive entries to play a pyramid game and the prizes are more points and electronics.
I'm playing like a madman. Bonus plays are awarded for loading coupons to your Optimum card and I've loaded coupons for diapers , anti - rash meds , soap and olive oil.
I'm up to 21 entries and the contest closes to - morrow.

I buy a bookstand magazine called ' WomansWorld ' for $2.40.
Visitors assume M gets this mag. There is very little fashion and lots of seasonal themes. Lots of advice on food supplements , herbs etc. are included. Plenty of pictures.
The one entry that was interesting last month was ' electronic interacting ' such as Twitter , Instagram etc as stress relief , up to 21 % better. I'm thinking blogging may be the same , for stress relief.

At least , blogging keeps me busy , somewhat.

Waffle , or not too Waffle

............. not breakfast

me , my basic instinct is to second guess myself.

I'm typing on the baby laptop
This e machine is the bargain for $138 plus the boosted memory and Solid State Drive - costing a further $200.
AND a friend stripped the memory right down to e mail and security

The e machine was never fast but over time , it turtled , itself
and it seems adding Avast Anti - virus was the end. Dismal and worse. Thus , the stripdown
Yet , I'm researching , a replacement laptop at a cost of $1500.

Thus , I'm trying to evaluate ( AGAIN ) is it worthwhile keeping baby laptop

The skinny , the emachine is a ' carry on the road ' typewriter that occasionally doubles as an internet search device.
Will the baby laptop do ?  Yes.

The secondary problem is that fairly soon , our home laptop , a 19 in monster , is going to need a replacement.
I'm probably , switching to Windows 10 which requires , all that the 19 in has , in terms of speed and memory

My fish from Tues morning
I used the selfie stick but it was difficult holding both fish and stick

'Bee Ready

Up on the river , last night.
Beutii !. Warm w/ cool breeze over the river

Felt guilty , so , I blew out the gutters. Recall , in order to avoid ladders , I adapted an over the counter extension for attaching a leafblower to a tube system.
The system was short and inflexible but had the right idea.
I re - purposed a vacuum hose and created a flexible tube system for blowing out gutters - even 2 nd story.
Well , 15 minutes and 3 gutter got blown out

I re - spooled 2 reels to get ready for fishing season.
My equipment is just now rounding into shape. The boat is filling up w/ tackle. Why ???
Dunno , I use about 3 things out there

I'm researching a new portable laptop. I'm marveling at the information out there on the 'net.
Also , what variety is for sale.
Looks like a 1500 Cdn dollar purchase
Recall , the present baby laptop was a $139 buy that cost $400 + after updates etc
This sucker will not need updates for a while and when that comes it will be storage space

What the World Needs Now .....

........... the famous lead in for Burt Bacarach ( ? )

Well , rain would be good

Brett Anderson does the Long Range predictions for Accuweather

Jul 11 - 17 shows above normal Temperatures for S ON and the E U.S.

Jul 18 - 24 indicates not much but above normal T for ON

Haven't spoken about Op Osm or the get fit routine
Weight has been up and down but some long term observations have lead to some semblance of understanding about the weight gain / loss process

For me , cutting out snacks is key esp. the late in the evening ones
- makes sense
- and it is all about watching the carbs ( just not eating everything that I see )

My elliptical work outs go on , averaging about 550 Cal burned according to the Timex heart rate monitor. The work outs average 54 min to an hour including cool down time

I have introduced a little more all out peak intensity for 20 sec and then dropping down to base km / sec to recover

But I'm running out of new movies or ones that I want to watch at any rate. The last go round had me watching the original Avengers . the BBC series w/ Patrick McNee and Diana Rigg
Had a mammoth crush on Diana Rigg or ' Emma Peel '

Its not winter , thus our teams are winning
the T.O. Blue Jays are 1 game out of 1 st
the football Argonauts won last night

Whoo - hoo

as well ,Milos Raonic beat R.  Federer at Wimbledon

We are on a roll

Weather was stormy late afternoon and evening but straightened out this Am. Sunny , partly cloudy but neat

" All the News ............. ?? "

' I get all the news , I need from the weather report ' intoned Paul Simon

Let's hope that the line is true
We got rain and we needed the water
I watered the lawn on Wed and gave it a good soak
I'm not a lawn watering kind of guy
Let the grass be grass - brown for summer , green for autumn

But I felt , as though that I had let the lawn down

And we get sprinkles for 2 of 3 days.
Normally , not enough to even wet your whistle
however , since , I watered probably enough to soak in

Were you expecting more

One Summer to the Next

or suffering through a heat wave

This set will be our 12 th day above 90 F
We ran home from the 'bee , cowards and all
Figured the heat would build all day and sleep would be uncomfortable

the rationale , we bought where we did , for the short distance from home
kinda zip up and zip back

The S Ont zone is missing rain- I know , we complain and complain but
when its not there
and it isn't
the grass and crops suffer

We now possess a 2 nd back up , hard drive
yes , the right one 3 TB
basically , the needle on the external hard drive capacity didn't move when the back up was done

Juno

... is a space probe launched from earth 5 years ago. Last night , Juno was inserted into the orbit of Jupiter. Firsts for Juno               a)   longest traveled solar powered space instrument
 b) largest probe ever to reach into the outer planets.
c) closest orbit of Jupiter

Due to a thick cloud cover Jupiter is a secret right now.
Over a prolonged period , Juno will use 7 ( ? ) different instruments to analyze the composition of the planet.
Juno will be affected by intense magnetic fields and extremes of particle bombardment
As a finale . Juno will crash into Jupiter , hopefully recording data that will verify and expand the information gathered.

Juno is also a movie w/ the storyline of a young girl , pregnancy and true love. Yes , its cute but also gets fairly gritty , in its own way.

And it is not a city in Alaska.

We get a 2 day ( ? ) heat wave w/ slight humidity
Sort of a toaster oven thingy

Role models , we all need them , I think
my problem is that its everyone that I know
Crikey , talk about , low man on the totem pole

On the external hard drive. Recall that this will represent the second back up for the computer and third copy of personal data that is always recommended.
The first order produced a fake HD. At the store , I looked at the label and it said 2 TB , not 3. Mistake. They took it back and I re - ordered. Customer Dis - service , actually helped. The nice lady listened , asked for some time , called me back.
To wit , I get exactly what I ordered or thought that I was ordering - five days late.
The Source , electronics , sent and e mail and this info included a tracking code. Yesterday , nada , no  information available except that it shipped.
to -day , though , bingo bango its in T.O. at the central warehouse
Woo hoo , its a day away.
BTW , the nice lady said it would be slower coming b/c of the holiday. Right -o.
Now , what box did they send ????
the Right Stuff ?     ( I've been watching this movie while ellipticking )

the Big Fake - eroo

Do tell !

Obsession is something that I need to deal with

I get on these kicks

The latest is Chatham Artillery Punch
In the movie , ' Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil ' starring Kevin Spacey and John Cusack , the lead character is offered Chatham Artillery Punch.
The story line goes that Gen Sherman was wined and dined and served Chatham Artillery Punch. The balls and lovely ladies plus the punch mythically dissuaded him from burning Savannah , Ga , the way he did Atlanta.
The host says : do you like it
guest ;  strong
host : Chatham Artillery Punch - seven parts liquor , three parts fruit

If you look up CAP , you find recipes that include tea , gin, rum , whisky brandy , champagne . lemons etc.
Usually , the CAP is mixed in a horse trough or whatever you have that holds gallons
We were at a bar and I mentioned the CAP , the guy next to us , goes out and comes back w/ the champagne. What else could I do ?
Our bartender added whatever I said and we added the champagne.
CAP for five or so or 3 really drunk people.

The name derives from the Chatham Artillery , the oldest military unit in Georgia. Way back , the CA switched hosting duties for  socials w/ the Republican Blues. the host duties were taken seriously and one CA commander decided on inventing a punch to start festivities. The CAP was born.

Our British visitor was coming and I'd been ordering Cape Cod s
which are vodka . soda and splash of cranberry.
So , why not , fake some CAP.
My current recipe and I've been doing serious research and testing
Ice , soda , cranberry juice , syrup ( fruit juice ) , brandy and champagne.
The soda is cheating b/c the recipe normally uses cold tea as a chaser. But soda is fizzy and doesn't kill the champagne.

The Canadian flag is still up and comes down probably to - day.
Why ?? The flag is cheap and gets beaten up pretty bad if it stays up ( experience )

Weather is phenomenal , yes , we got rain but that was needed
to - day blue sky and sun

Friday, 1 July 2016

Born on the 1 st of July

............ its CANADA Day
# 149 since confederation

Oh , Canada

We only shoot what we intend to eat
( mostly )

I'm supposed to fly the flag
Well , its not always what I think is going to happen

To wit , the first year that I got out the flag , I proudly put up the flag

The  first comment  ,  ' Hey ,where did you get the pole ? '
Come on !
the pole ????

It is a 20 ft - er and it came w/ the house up in the garage rafters , along w/ the 6 ft wings off of a paper and wood airplane

There is an official Canada 150 tulip , the tulip existed but only when the gardeners at the Parliament nurseries went looking , did they discover how much this one tulip looked like the flag.

BTW , Canada's history of tulips on Parliament hill goes back to 1945 , when a grateful Netherlands Gov't sent 100 000 tulips as a thank you to Canada for participation in the liberation of their Home.

Flag went up and is drowning
