sun / grey / but 79 C already in the shade plus humidity I'm sure
I'm trying a new bread option from Walmart bakery. It s wheat bread w/ 3g of fibre per slice but 140 Cal. Thus, fibre and Cal are high. But seldom do I see 3g fibre per slice w/out paying a premium for that fibre.
On the fibre front, I'm alternating 4 soaked prunes and chia seeds in water. So far so good.
For vitamins, I'm alternating between 1000 g of salmon oil and 500 g of Krill oil daily. The extra oil is for my oil glands on the lower lids. My optometrist was exalting in his praise of the oil glands that he prods when I visit. Apparently, my gland openings are as good as anyone that he sees regardless of age. So thats good.
If the rest of my life went so swimmingly. Ah well, to quote Nigel Starling in ' Ghost and the Darkness ' .. < the struggle is the glory >
We had sun, cloud, humidity, a bucket rainfall and sun.

When You Wake at 4:30 AM
and don't get back to sleep for an hour or so
I rinsed my nose w/ saline ( I know , way too much information )
Updated our status on the Seneca on line site
Read a portion of ' Conan, the Wanderer '
then fell asleep from 6 to 9:30
Still very groggy
On rinsing w/ saline. My father was way ahead of the current saline practices i.e the fancy spray bottles, tea pots, saline rinse contraptions etc. He used a home made saline mixture and inhaled the liquid from his cupped hand.
I did this until I was given the squirt bottle applicator and I still use the homemade version mixture ( 1/2 tsp Kosher salt and a dab of baking soda )
My theory is at the very least, the saline kills or dehydrates a lot of bacteria.
We get free credits for updating our account on line.
Yes, this is Conan the Barbarian of Robert Howard fame, written by someone else b/c Howard wrote so few Conan novels.

Success
is counted sweetest by those who ne'er succeed
To comprehend a nectar requires sorest need
Not one of all the purple host who took the flag to-day
Can tell so clear the definition, victory
as he defeated dying upon whose forbidden ear
the distant sounds of triumph, sound so agonizing clear

About the printer, and my troubles.
... for some reason known only to the gods of digital and cyber, our printer started to drop features left and right. No colour printing ( yes, I put in a new cartridge and the test sheet printed in colour ).
Next, no scanning of documents. And previous to these events, you needed to hit ' colour or black ' mode button for printing.
I surmise that either Windows or Google updated ( hate that word ) and the new crap buggered up existing programs or functions. That is a very technical explanation but likely true.
I downloaded HP scanner Doctor and set the program to work. The upshot was that a driver program was discovered. End of story.
No joy printing or scanning.
The next step would be to ' uninstall ' the driver program and re- install a new or real HP copy of instructions.
Well. this AM, the old college try and the printer scanned a document and did this scan in colour. A little sweetness as they say
Weather. Humid and building to hot as the cloud goes away. and the next few days are ditto.
Everyone these days talks of a bucket list. I didn't have one til now.
I want to dance as good as Baby Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Pt II. the little guy has great rhythm < actually the whole world has better rhythm than me >

The weather is pretty wishy washy at this time. Cool turning to warm ish and humid, on a day to day basis.
Toronto has hit new heights or lows depending on how you see the news. The city recorded its 60 th murder and that equals the 2017 total ( and its Aug something eth ). Now we can afford the people number wise but still. We can postulate that a culling process is underway across the city. However, the by-standers are affected as well.
" Do right and fear no man, don't write and fear no woman " is written on the Dewars Whiskey bottle. A pet phrase of founder Sir Thomas Dewar. A terse wit, they said.
In a never ending battle to keep you informed and to show continuity:
A month ago or so, I reported a new idea for keeping the cold air from seeping down the open staircase to the basement.
A large fan blows air across the stair opening, hopefully to stop cold air from dropping down the stairwell.
By comparison, we used 736 Kwh in the period for JUL to Aug 8.
and in 2017 for the same period 789 Kwh. And this was a warmer summer by far.
And we feel cooler upstairs in the living room.
Gmail updated us. Woo hoo. All sorts of resets occurred.
Brighter and more colourful gmail home page.
Oh ! and it takes two sign ins to access your account.
The first sign in takes you back to sign in

the blog goes on
no one reads this but
on going is going on
We've decided the ' worm boys ' and me.
The nickname is for the 2 guys that I fish w/ now and for the last 2 years. We are a team
But they cut up worms and tip their presentations w/ worm carcasses. Thus the ' worm boys '. It also means plastic trays displaying their dissection work. You see, the want their worm bits to dry out some - tougher on the hook. And then they hook the pieces strategically to stay on the hook longer.
I digress.
Fall is here. Yesterday, I spent the day in two shirts. A long sleeve undershirt and a looser outdoor shirt ( big pockets etc )

1 Ga. costs $ 50
I went to buy the engine oil for the outboard. Yes, 1 gallon is $50.
But on the phone the sales lady had mentioned a 2 1/2 gallom size.
The bigger jug was $ 109. Of course, I bought the biggie.
I figure the half gallon or $25 cost 10 dollars.
Before you ask, yes you can substitute a generic brand for $ 36 a gallon.
I won't
The E Tec engine 75 HP from Evinrude has some story to tell.
In 9 years, the 75 has been in the shop 3 times.
Twice for blown injectors, definitely not my fault. Both within the first 2 years. The E Tec forum members called it a bad batch from some manufacturer.
Time # 3, I hit a shoal and ragged the lower end. Definitely my fault
- really my fault. But the nice man at the marina called in a marker and got the 3 yr old engine repaired w/ OEM instead of re-built,
And the spark plugs got changed 2 yrs ago by moi.
And the oil, which will now be in reserve on the shelf

never meant to fish
that kind of day
You see, I did get up and left early for the river. the 'bee.
The boat slid down the rails and I shoved off.
Well, you know that feeling that you can get when you remember something from last night.
I'd been meaning to check the safety kit on the boat. Floating rope, whistle, water-proof flashlight etc.
I was only 2 minutes from the dock, I stopped and checked.
There had been a mini-flood about a month ago, when the bait well over-flowed. The lower seat compartment was wet.
Ah, the flashlight is water-proof, water poured out of the kit and the flashlight was rusted. Not water-proof enough, it seems.
The penalty for improper safety equipment is a fine of $ 150. I shrugged and headed for the dock and tied up. I went up the stairs, all 60 of them and fetched a spare flashlight ( and bulbs, I'm not that naive ).
I'm sitting in the boat at the dock, fixing the safety kit. I look up and a boat coming downriver hails a fisherman 600 ft away - yepper it was the OPP ( provincial water police ). The OPP stopped another boat. the officers saw me and waved, I waved right back.
Of course, had I stayed out the OPP officers would have found my rusted out flashlight and wrote the ticket. Luck, pure dumb luck
a) that I checked b) that I went back.
BTW, I forgot my hat, yep, up the 60 stairs again.
The wind was steady and I fought to control the boat. No fish. Thinking of heading in, I cast out and heard a whir sound. This sound is soul destroying, you see its a ball of fishing line firing out through the guides of the rod. A birds-nest in fishing terms.
I have other rods set up no problem, lets fish a bit closer to home.
Beeeeeeeeeeeee...pppppppp ! Beeeeeeeeeeeeeee... pppp ! Its the low engine oil light. Roughly I could travel another 2 - 3 miles but then the engine goes into protect mode which means limping home.
Yes, its happened before.
But I always had oil and the shelf, not to-day.
A short trip back and no oil on the shelf.
See. Never meant to go fishing.
Never fight the omens. I charged the battery, ate and left.

a Slight respite from the heat
yes, a cool down of sorts for at least a day
Big rain on Friday, torrents of water, all the low places flooded in the city.
We had sun to-day but cloud as well.
Aunt Barbara ( not ours but Margaret's cousin in law gifted us a quilted piece ( placemat or doily or ????????? ) Anyway, we've debated and tried different treatments.
We think we've got it
This quilted piece hangs in our living room now. It was on the table in a frame such as used in poster framing. But it was awkward and too big. Then up on the wall.. but ever the frame seemed wrong.
As a trial, I used a black canvas artists frame and sewed the quilt in place.
Natch ! We love it
Thank you Aunty Barbara

You talk too much and then
sometimes it works out
On a visit to the accountant, I blurted out that we had assumed the mortgage on the cottage that we sold last year. The accountant responded w/ " tax write-off for operating a business from home ".
At least, he'll try the dodge w/ Revenue Canada

" Yes, We're going fishing ... "
Oops, we went fishing
The weather co-operated. Warm to slightly uncomfortable w/ a warm to cool breeze. A few drops but really amounted to sprinkles in the mid-day.
I feel just being out in the sun all day is draining. Thus, overall, we came away in not bad condition. Arriving home, I showered and bathed in aloe vera lotion.
The highlight of the day came late morning nearing noon. An overhanging tree covered a large amount of a weedbed. I skipped my plastic stick bait 15 ft under the overhang. A large tug and I set and missed. Went right back under approx the same cast and BOOM ! A fatty #3 largemouth bass dug away at the weeds trying to dive.
The bass was good and he got down into the green stuff. However, he was hooked well and I forced him up and out- finally. Of course, after, I realized that the drag was set too loose.

Sunday - the plan
or as close as I get to a plan
Woke up and did coffee and toast. Read the paper ( kinda b/c I skim the headlines )
Carried the ladder to the downspouts and cleared leaves et al. We've been getting overflow of the eavestrough, so this was a preventative cleaning.
Later, approx 11 A, I'll be off to the Korner Pub b/c its Caesar Sunday. $4 Caesars all day. The Caesar is a real production. They dip the rim in pickle juice and salt the rim. Horseradish and Worcestershire sauce in the clamato juice ( no pre-mix crap here )
and the garnish is a skewer w/ baby onion, gherkin, olive and pickled green bean. A vegetable garden over a glass.
And as well, I drop in at Shoppers Drug Mart ( like CVS or Wahlgrens ) for the Sunday specials.
I sent a picture of my largemouth bass from Wed and got a return picture. My bass was 2 - 2 1/2 #. The return pix showed a 35 # carp that was wider than the fisherman ( a second cousin in law s son )
Oops ! outfished again

the old and older
cell phones or whatever they call them nowadays
I purchased an iPhone 4s at the Apple store for $ 400, already a generation obsolete.
I chose the 4s to get Siri ( the voice of knowledge )
Of course, I didn't realize that you need WiFi or data coverage to use Siri. So far, Siri and I have had brief flings but no heavy dating.
I'm betting its been5 years since that purchase date Apr 2014 ( read the sales slip )
This topic arises b/c the neighbour's son on his BD bought a Samsung phone for $ 1200.
Eek ! for real ? To be fair thats in 2018 $ so its not like 2014 dollars.
And the neighbour has a phone plan w/ 50 Gb of data. Yepper, the family uses all of it in a month and often go over the 50 G.
To give a reference, our plan for the house has a limit of 200 G and we use 20 Gb.
Apparently, down loading music and movies eats data

there is no ' T ' in
Friday
Oops !
Forgot T.G.I.F. there is a '' T '
Our weather is unsettled, rain mixed w/ humid and warm
Good for grass and weeds
For fishing, our clothes got soaked but we were warm - so OK
and the fish at least tried
One of us, not moi, fell in. No, it was safe, shallow water and no current or flow.
' 2 cents worth ' recommends : the ' Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society '. Cute. But substantive. Centred on WW II and how the war and occupation affected a small colony of people.

Trouble in a TEApot
from the 'buds, last night
Black tea, grown in India after the British stole tea plants from China.
The competition now comes from Africa. African teas are grown in the equatorial regions at altitude. This combination of growing factors makes the tea leaves, higher quality.
The cost of tea production is rising faster than demand
India's tea plants are old growth. The plants, now produce leaves lower down on the bush, reducing quality of the leaves.
Who woulda thunk it
Cuppa, anyone

Zoe Saldano < Green or Blue >
well, have you deicded
Remember in blue mode that she has a tail, fights like crazy
In green she can shoot anything that moves
The H/H weather has settled in but this is really expected here in T.O. How long will this bout last ? Probably, 2 more days then a col down. however, we can anticipate a return before summers end
Lately, approx a week, my entertainment on the elliptical workouts has been the BBC series ' the Planets ' circa 2006. The last episode mentioned the ' Cassini - Huygens project ' to Saturn. The launch was 1997 w/ a target date of 2004 for Cassini.
The mission lasted 13 yrs and finished fall 2017.
To finalize my curiosity I visited ' NASA - Cassini ' to see an update of the mission. The findings were detailed and surprising.
Moons that were frozen w/ oceans beneath, others that were heat active but spewing nitrogen not water based particles.
I also discovered why the donald has such trouble w/ the truth. Apparently, massive objects warp time and bend space, probably explaining why ' mr tiny hands ' isn't acquainted w/ reality. A purely, scientific prospective.

R U Kidding ?
No
C'est vrai
Quoi ?
Attended the birthday BBQ, I got volunteered to cook the steaks which were t - bones. Terriff !
Our instructions were 2 min per side. OK , not enough cooking for most thus back on the grill for most of the steaks. I had a corner of one steak, medium rare - phenomenal meat that they bought and didn't need medium or higher.
Thus, you ask how does the chef not get to eat ? I did. Except, along w/ salads of multi kind, they had BBQ duck pre cooked and warmed up.
Ooh ! did I say phantastic, it was. A little steak then and a whole lot of duck which wasn't really popular after the steak.
Heaven.
Warm and humid, a touch under sticky toffee warm but close.
I escaped before the mosquitoes got going on their dinner.

Choose !
Zoe Saldano
Blue or green skin
What a choice ! Very athletic in both guises, kinda appealing
Ooh
Tough decision
too hard
We will decide to-morrow
Can Zoe decide, blue or green ?
We are due for more warm this week end and it a long week end < Canadian speak for Monday Holiday >
We'll stay in City w/ birthday BBQ on Sat. The birthday boy and I are the same age and have known each other for 55 yrs. Grade 8 til now.
Why we are still friends is a real super question
