Excitement

 is delivery to your door. Well, this week, a surprise of sorts when a flat tish box arrived - turned out to be a kitchen scale for wieghing smaller objects. We had a Kg scale that had the gradations down to 100 g but it was really meant for around a Kg type object. This one smaller than a box of Triscuit and 1 / 3 the thickness can measure 10 g and up to 2 Kg. It says up to 3-5 Kg but thats pushing its limits.

Next anniversary and birhtday cards arrived. 2 were from overseas - so exotic seeing the UK postal cancellation.

Segue into birthday plans. In a lockdown time - gifts came via Amazon.   The highlight was a 100 bulb < LED > string of ' fairy lights '. tiny bulbs w/ a remote to choose brightness level, 20 colours and modes that include steady, fade, flash and chase. The fairies are around the ceiling edge in the spare bedroom. Now, if youu know me, right up my alley. Love that kind of thing.
To be fair, this is a trial run. Both in the kitchen and downstairs bathroom, the installer put in under cabient accent lighting. He didn't leave the instructions thus by trial and error I've learned how to replace the halogen bulbs. Now, as soon as you see ' halogen ' in the name that signifies that each bulb costs $ 5. For a car read $ 25.

Looking at catalogues, I've noticed fairy lights are $ 15 a stringer. And the life expectancy is 3 000 h. Yepper, for the price of 3 bulbs that last 2 - 4 yrs - I get lifetime lighting. As well, the LED s use 1 / 20 the electricity. And as described you get the versatility.

A cool to cold, raw day w/ winds really kicking up.

And I ran errands this AM. First to Lee Valley Tool for quick connect hose couplers. The couplers screw into the existing coupling but allow interchange w/out unscrewing everytime that you need to swap hoses or nozzles. AND you leave the water on to change nozzles or hoses.
Picked up ' les mets Chinois ' < Chinese food > for lunch and it seems dinner. So for $ 38 we eat at least 2 meals and get leftover I'm sure.
My go to store is the Giant Tiger, our small dpeartment store. I got bananas, pickles, ice cream sandwiches < the essentials > and cookies. Perogies were 3 froxen package for $ 5. These ' ravioli s ' make a great quickie meal. We love them

I've been twice to Lehman s for a walk around. And bought a Lady Magnum on sale for  $ 25 by Boker < a lady s knife, cute but useful > the blade is laminated steel or damascus. And by the way, the cost is $ 65. Boker is a Solingen, Swedish manufacturer

And a BBQ tool that was on sale for $ 14 and what the heck, just buy it. Years later, I found the Memphis BBQ sold for $65 < U.S. natch >. 

This multi tool can lift a grill grid, clean both top and sides of the grill runners that the food sits on. I'll find the brochure and complete the description. A bottle opener and a scraper to clean flavorizer plates < that have replaced the briquets that used to line the bottom for the same purpose>
Oh,  $45 not 65. And a beast of a weapon, to boot

The regular season ended for JHU in the B1G conference. TG, w / a record of 2 - 8 Hop enters the B1G tournament play offs. And they get to meet the teams that kicked the snot out of them.
To be fair, yesterday they lost to # 1 Maryland by 1 goal and led w/ 2 minutes left.

Oops ! I got out but it wasn't warm. That wind kicked up cool.

The dandelions are showing. Thus, I went out to dig them out. And didn't evn make a start. 30 came out and a flock of them still are there. A bloooming menace.

Now, boxes. Say what ? Yes, I've decided that it s a shame to waste the great boxes we are getting from wine and beer deliveries. Sturdy walled boxes that are great for storage. Even on their sides like cupboards. So, I'm making cupboards out them. It helps organizes my voluminous stuff < everything gets saved, down there and I mean everything >

 but today is up. Warm temperature and sun. Rain is due in 2 days - for a 3 day showing.

This morning opening up the downstairs verticals, a flash went by and their was some flurry of movement. The fox stood still < guess it was scared by the verticals > and there was a rabbit. I waited about 20 seconds and the fox came back. I put the camera on video and filmed ' the fox picking up the rabbit and leaving towards the neighbours. I looked down and the phone said ' click to record '. I had double tapped the record button, as in record - pause.
I got the rabbit b/c he was dead and paused as well.

I hustled down the hill out back, yesterday. The creek was pretty clear. I figured back to the well and the first pool. Nada.
Well, never tried, never know. Moved downstream to the next small pool. The chub were laying in wait. I got 6 of the little sweeties.
But it happened again - a passerby asked if I was fishing for trout. He claimed that he had seen them before in swarms. Oh, my sweet Fanny Mae, like it would happen to me. I came home

CV 19 and Ontario. By every metric plus response by doctors - a disaster of non-supportable dimensions.

Brilliant April day, and you clean the showers. The showers get used and used. Thus, clean them out. In YouTube videos, when the topic is cleaning grout or tiles the fallback cleaning combiantion is Dawn liquid detergent and vinegar. I figured that I need to be in the shower stall, so lets not die from the fumes from commercial products. So, dawn and vinegar it is. Did 2 showers and decided that Brown Ale is a reward. 
Showers smell good and I'm alive.

This afternoon, I get an email from next door. The video shows the fox and my rabbit in their yard. I guess that I've lost that rabbit

In the Early Morning

 you can be first in line at SuperStore for groceries. I roamed the ailses at will and over stepped the shopping list.

I reasoned that avoiding crowds was good. That plan worked for 1/2 h and then the store got busy. However, at self - checkout it was me and 2 others using the 9 bays.

Bonus. I redeemed points and cut the bill in half. The purchases included flour < found 2 downstairs on coming home > , a loaf of store bread < found 2 in the freezers > and chicken thighs for future use

Bright sun and a little haze out there and cool to cold. The wind kicks up building to tomorrow when we reach 62 F. 

And a got bulk Fibre Drink - pysillium based. I was taking bran and flaxseed w/ water. But we had this bottle of Fibre drink just sitting - tried it 2 weeks ago and decided it worked. Told ya ! Fibre is one of my basic ideas for healthy living.

Read the CBC news online. The temperature will peak at 40 F w/ winds and off chance of more snow flurries.

Authorities are transferring CV 19 patients at record rates. All through S Ontario, within 3 h of Toronto, let  say, hospitals cannot cope individually w/ the influx of critical care CV 19 patients.

Truly a Christmas scene out there. If your a returning bird, you'll starve b/c your food got covered.
The snow avoided us - there was a chance. Supposedly the mid morning was snowfall time.

Snow never came back

Fasxinating. I ordered speakers from our Air Miles program < for points >. The speakers are JBL, a reliable name. I discovered that the Bluetooth speakers work with our phones < dat is gut > and the Lenovo Tablet < also gut > but not either Chromebook < decidedly not gut >.
I figured, well if the phones play music through the portable speakers that helps b/c both phones and speakers carry easily.
However, a while back, I noticed that the screen on the latest Chromebook Duet changed when the optional keyboard detached or was re-attached. As if something was changing over.
What the heck. Took off the keyboard and tried in Duet Tablet mode

The sound blasted out ! I had been fooling with the volume attempting to get the speaker to work. It does. Thus, magic. our 2 phones and 2 tablets can be used w/ the Bluetooth speakers. Yes, thats right, I ordered a pair. These JBL Flip 5 s can interconnect to give stereo.

Who woulda thunk, what a difference in ability - laptop and tablet have alternate functioning depending on the keyboard.

We got takeout from Burger King tonight. Used coupons - as in - two Whopper Jr and fries for 4.99. Surprising how good that they make plastic taste b/c I'm assuming the beef is an additive.

Weather has a gusty < very gusty > day and that brings "" SNOW "" tomorrow.
Lets see -- April 20 and S Ontario gets snow ---- just about right ..... as people line up upside for their vax.

Actually, a reprieve as Hospital admissions fell after two weeks of consistent increase. Unfortunately, this is much like my slot machine fortunes - you know, make fifty cents and lose a dollar, next spin.

A change in topic. Me. or health and exercise

The basic rules

1. a diet that feature fibre. Each morning, I've been having ' fake ' Metamucil < the house brand at Shoppers Drug >

2. Workout - every other day. The adverts from Health Canada suggest 30 minutes walking a day is recommended. However, I'm an advocate of the ' big sweat '. I try for 45 - 80 minutes ( apparently, 80 minutes is my new ' go to mark '. I haven't been under 75 minutes in months - and its hard to go back to anything else - for me )

My experience has been that I can tell when I don't ' clear out my pores etc ' as when we are away. This observation goes back to Chicago at a conference. We swam a little and no one was in the sauna. Not a sauna fan. We did 1/2 h. I felt so good. Then it hit me. Sweat !

Yes, the good clean out. Now, I recognize the signs of lack of ' clearing out '.

And its proven clinically.

Okay, the workout is 1/2 h of rowing. The Concept 2 has always been billed as an Ergonometer. My heartrate averages 122 BPM and runs to 133, occassionally. Next, I shift to the elliptical. Which is a good workout also. I break up the 50 minutes on the elliptical by jumping off for free weights and calisthenics. Sort of do ' X ' thing and then back on the elliptical.

Okay. Did you really need the blow by blow of the workout ? Not really, except there is a followup. No knee pain in ? say - 4 months < did I just jinx myself > I started the every other day routine for that reason, to ease up on the knees -hoping that the off day meant time to recuperate etc.

BTW, my initial guess was way off. the numbers for cases and ICU admittance are nuts. The medical higher ups in Ontario used words such as desperate, shocking and disappointing
Worse still is the guarantee that whatever is done in the next few days - the path forward for 2 weeks is set w/ rising numbers

Furhtermore the 4 week lockdown that we are in is insuffcient to accomplish anything. A tougher, really tough 6 weeks is needed.

Sadly, the film crew brings its own catering truck - no ' Joy ' as it were

In the realm of CV 19 boredom, I started playing those game apps that you see on TV - like ' its free ! '
Thus far, 5 games and I lasted into level 25 or 35. Thats the juncture where the window asks you to upgrade to - premium status or favoured player etc. for a fee < only  $ 6.99 or deluxe status for $89 ...... yes, eighty nine samollions >
Deny, deny, deny is the politicians stance and me too !
Sorry, I reached my height of imcompentence.

So, how was your morning ? Us. From 9 AM, I finagled the TV controls, internet connections etc. - TV was down.

I went through the sequence of troubleshooting techniques.

Restart the TV box
Refresh which is a system shutdown
Unplug the TV box or translator from modem to TV
Unplug the modem 

Read the troubleshooting guide for the TV
Prayed to who ever we could think of

Finally, called technical issues at Telco, Rogers. Helpful guy < Denis >
worked through a 30 minute triage. Which included updates to the TV box, shut down of internet from the remote terminal etc.

I ended up going downstairs and bringing up the downstairs TV box b/c it was working.
I plugged in the downstairs box   < BTW, the guy was still on the phone >. Yes. Yes.
Then I had mentioned that the upstairs TV box was hardwired to the TV box. The tech goes ' hey, lets disconnect the ethernet cable ' on the upstairs box. Wait for it. Wait....... wait. Yes !

After all that, it becomes evident that the ethernet cable is faulty or incompatible. The freaaking ethernet cable !!!!!

Beer is so good at 11 AM - its Happy Hour someplace on the planet

in thoughts - you may not know but will not be surprised, I write down the details of each workout. This pattern goes back likely 10 years at least. To be fair, the information varies b/c I've used 3 different Heart Rate Monitors that display different values. And each is calibrated a little differently. Still b/c the record is regular, it can be used to get a baseline and representative trend ( s ). For each monitor the record would be for a minimum of a year < likely longer >

On Facebook I asked ' Are we what we own ? ' One person answered w/ a ' No '. Everyone else decided not to respond or ........ ??????

BTW, Hopkins got run over by Ohio St. This is the time that JHU starts the planning process for 2022. The promo alwsys boasts 44 National Championships - harking back to the pre NCAA era. The National Championship was a vote among ??? some people. Club teams or basically everyone if you played lacrosse in the U.S. My history w/ JHU goes back to the end of that pre - NCAA championship time. Apparently, most teams don't care about that legacy. There is a foo-for-ray in JHU circles but no one else cares.
My Hopkins clothes are getting old. I mean some stuff goes back to 2006 or so. And I'm sure of that date.

Last night was home made pizza night. Frozen dough from SuperStore was custom topped. Pizza #1 was traditional pizza sauce w/ spinach and mushroom, pepperoni and 3 cheese mix.
Pizza #2 was pesto and olive oil w/ BBQ pork, tomato and spinach and 3 cheese mix.
The winner ? a tie. #2 tastier but # 1 was moist and tasty
Both were thin crust --> and leftovers for lunch etc

Acrually, its the ' Irregulars ' a Netflix spin-off from Sherlock Holmes. The main characters roam the streets dodging eveything earthly and non earthly. Holmes and Watson are secondary but involved < in dubious roles >.

Weatherwise, we go for 65 F today and in fact the lowest temperature all week is 55. And not a lot of rain forecast.

Job1 : clean the range grates on the gas stove
           while your at it, the baking pans
           plus the burner lids on the stove top
Easy - Off sprayed outside on the items on a plastic sheet < really those fumes are killer >

Job 2 : lube the crank out window in the bedroom. And you don't use WD 40 b/c it can work but it is a ' water displacement ' product. Loosen rusted bolts etc. A spray grease is far better b/c it does lubricate the crank. And a silicon spray even better  < more expensive too >

And lastly, pick up dinner at Swiss Chalet chicken restaurant. 2 - 1/4 chicken dinners + appetizer + pie

AND at 6:20 PM next door dropped off dinner b/c I had taken half a pan apple dessert over yesterday. They brought DINNER - the whole shooting match

I did my version this morning. I caught chubs this week in the creek down the ravine. However, on the fourth cast, I hooked a branch on the opposite side of the creek. True to form - that was. I snapped the line and lost a fly and a float and 2 ft of line. For the safety of the birds and b/c I'm cheap - I took the limb cutter pole and went after the float.

OK Down the slope, and over to the spot. Cut the branch and retrieved the whole mess. Crawled back up the slope using the pole to balance.

Dada ! Bob s your uncle. Then in the garage, put my hand in my pocket to get the float etc and put the hook into my finger ! That is kismet for sure

Alright - safe and slightly punctured, licking my wounds < really ! had to sop up the blood drops > and celebrating over a cup of yesterday s coffee.

Well, he didn't mean our Premier. Through political biased decisions and dithering, he got caught mucking about. Restaurants were in the first week of a relaxation in dining rules. Limited seating was allowed indoors plus patios < yes, we have sun and warm in S Ont >

Nope. Back to a lockdown. Don't travel and don't gather w/ stores limited to essential goods. 28 days.

Review : vaxx went well. Both of us are a little tender under the band aid. And I am  a little off. ????? Well, I'm groggy a bit. Took Gravol to sleep and bingo ! Slept through the night < after having trouble falling asleep >.

I think the ticket is to take it slow and not feel like that you need to be bursting w/ energy.
