Cool in the Morning

 brisk

air is clear after rain last night

Up at 6 again, lay there, couldn't really sleep. Coffee sounded good.

Thus, after news this morning, I'm down to 2 uncles < Dad's side >. Uncle George passed last night.

Uncle George was judged a success by most. He started out as a chicken sexer < baby chicks > and rose in the company,  Lilydale. He ended up organizing corporate events and made many contacts. An avid golfer his whole life.                                                                             In fact, in 1997, he organized the biggest Family re - union in Edmonton, Alberta when I asked and promised to fund the event. The turn out was 80 strong.

I sat next my aunt from Vancouver. Her sons were scattered over Canada and Vermont < U.S. >. Two were in Calgary, Alberta < 2 hr away > and 2 hr north of Vancouver. My uncle wasn't sure if the venture would be attended < his acceptance letter for the event had this notation - hope this goes off otherwise it will be embarassing > and didn't push the issue w/ his sons.                   My aunt turned to me at dinner and said ' I think we made a huge mistake - this is phenomenal '.

The remaining uncles are 101 and 90 yrs old.

The long range from Brett Anderson at Accuweather for the next 3 weeks ' is seasonal '. Of course, the real trick is to determine < here in S Ont > what does ' seasonal ' mean

Alrighty. The prediction is weather up and down < say 50 to 70 F > w/ rain frequent and often torrential. Cold nights, foggy mornings. Betcha, I'm bang on

To me, it means that my boat gets winterized the week following Thanksgiving < S Ont. date >. Recall, cold oil doesn't like to flow.

Manage Your Woodpile 🔥 Everything You Need To Keep Your Fire Burning

 we have gas for fuel.

My new BBQ is due today from Wayfair. I watched a video on YouTube ' Putting together your CharBroil Grill '. The video was 14 minutes. The guy took 2 hours to assemble the BBQ. Fortunately, his aim was to save others time in assembling. We shall see said the Zen Master.

We have fall today. Poke my head out for the paper and said ' Fall ! ' just like that not loud.

Soothing Solutions to Feel Good, Smell Good & Look Good 😄

aha, nail fungus soak. plus a deodorant rock

As well, in the last few months, I've noticed more ads for Chromebooks that tout the battery life < approx a day >. My experience says that my Dell Chroembook has 40 - 50 % more battery time than the Acer e Machine from before.                                                         But, but. The Chromebook relies on the internet connection to fully function. And some devices still want Windows to function e.g. cameras etc.                      However, I can't imagine using the Chromebook for anything but surfing the internet or emails < we are not running a business from the Chromebook >

Another day of warm, before the hammer drops.

Simple Solutions for the Dinner Table 🍝

cook a juicy chicken, slice bread easily or store food

On hacking or being hacked. I got reponses that varied from ' that old news, the video has been going around for a while ' or ' the image is a screenshot and not a link '

I've decided to not post publicly and asked friends to report any posts that come from me.

We are enjoying warm, unseasonally warm temperatures

Ridiculous is spelt ' password '. Alright, backround. You houls secure your router such that an outsider can't access or ' hack ' your house WiFi. i looked up ' interference on your phone ' and the suggestion was to access your router's basic settings. The process is to type in ' Admin ' and your password < that you changed > or default which is ' password '. Thus, I type in user name < email > and the password. Nope ! Tried 6 different combinations. Nope !                                                          You did change the password ? Didn't you ? Apparently, no b/c the password was ' password '.  Really ! You are kidding ! No.

Anyway, couldn't figure what to do, once I was in the router system

Apparently Hacked ?

2 people received a Facebook post form me w/ a video

I don't think that I've sent a video lately.

Yick !

A weather warning < sort of >, enjoy the warm b/c here in S ON, a cooler trend is coming. The average temperature will drop 10 degrees in a week. This weekend 25 and next 16 C or 77 becomes 60 F

And I'm planning out the winterizing process for the outboard and emptying the bassboat. Last year, for the second time, I enlisted help. And was criticized for over hyping the winterizing and emptying process. To be fair, we were talking about 3 people not one doing the work. Thats a big difference. As in 1/3 less trips up the steps.    Plus these guys are 15 and 20 years younger than me.

They summarized by saying that we could fish longer and still do the job. What was I thinking ?

Secondly, the weather was short sleeve temperatures. One year, the engine lower gear case oil was so thick, I opened the drain and went for a coffee. I came back 15 minutes later then waited another 20 for the draining to finish. Last year, the lower gear case drained in 10 minutes.

Yes, it might be warm this year as well. However, I'm not waiting for cold temperatures. The week following Thanksgiving Day - I'll lift the boat for winter. Pre-freeze ??????????  Pleeze !

the Toronto Star : Headline Sept 24

' This is Not a Time for Austerity ' which highlights the ' throne speech ' that initiates a session of parliament for the fall.

I'll read the story later - maybe. M might get there first. It is not a priority for me.

I don't need spin on spin from a reporter

An excerpt from ' theweathernetwork ' - the fall preview included :

We expect that late September, October and November will feature extended periods of mild fall weather and a delay in the arrival of consistent winter weather across most of the country. This is in stark contrast to last fall, which included a few historic winter-like storms and extended periods of mid-winter cold.

Sounds as though bursts of mild conditions will continue.

Alrighty, personal news. I made foccacia yesterday < from basics >. A news article described focaccia as the chef's blank canvas. Now, to be fair, M stood at my elbow and read the instructions < at least 6 times > as I figured out how to do what she said.

The recipe used yeast for leavening and it was a non - routine step for me. However, the foccacia featured grape tomatoes, sausage, onion and olives < onion and olives - only on my side > plus three cheeses.

And you're asking ' what's the difference ' sounds like pizza. Actually, must be really close.

No matter, taste was terrific, everybody loved it.

SUCCESS ! and we will do this again. Thats maybe the third time that I've let dough rise for 1 h and then another 1/2 h.

A house story : barbecue woes and triumph. Five days ago while bbq'ing. I looked down and saw flame through the control panel < where the control knobs are >. And the panel had started to melt. I shut off the gas and discovered flame had developed where the gas transits the supply line and enters the bbq. Oops ! Yeah, not nice. I started to take apart the bbq to repair.

M said ' forget it ' buy a new bbq. Well, coming home on Tues night, I saw a bbq on the curb w/ a sign that said ' it works '. I hauled it home and got it started. The bottom was saggy and needed reinforcement < lots of reinforcement >. M took one look and said ' no way '. I put two bbq s on our curb. I kept yelling to the walls ' take our bbq s '

AND by 4 o'clock - bingo - both had been taken. now we only have a charcoal bbq - smoker. But it felt like a victory when bbq s got taken. We must live a simple, simple life

' Charmin ' paper towel,

 hard to keep in stock

You heard it here, fourth hand. Paper towel stocks are low. Apparently, the statements from paper cleaning products goes ' you don't use the washroom more but you do clean more ' - in C V 19 times.

And re - cycled toilet paper is in very low supply. The main paper type for recycling is office paper and that source is hard to come by

Simple Living Sunday: Pandemic Preparedness 👍

oh, right

So far, I've finished re - rigging a rod. Long ago, say 1986 and on for a few years, we fished the river for steelhead < lake run rainbow trout >.  We had a cottage on a trout river. The gear can get fairly specialized and we accumulated fishing rods to suit the current trend.

Cottage is gone and we do't fish steelhead anymore. The result is that we have fishing rods called IM 6 graphite < high flexibility and strength > 9 and 1/2 foot noodle rods. Rods from 8 1/2 ft to 13 ft were considered the best. Thus, I have stored 5 such rods for 15 yrs or so.

The rods are high quality but too long for boat fishing < get in the way when not in use >. This past 2 days, I've cut down a 9 1/2 footer to 7 ' 9 '' in length. Part of the problem when you do a shortening modification is that the balance of the rod and reel combination is affected.

I made sure that balance was maintained. The other problem is guide placement and in this case size of the guide opening. I removed 2 existing guides and replaced the first guide < the biggest usually on the rod > w/ a larger diameter opening ( makes casting easier w/ a larger guide )

We'll try ou the newbie rod in 2 days.

how much rubbish can one person fire out into the ether

Well, you would know

I started removing the quack grass and other weeds.

The process is simple, dig out the dandelions and if seen the quack grass < whatever >.  Yeah, right. The math : 1 dandelion is surrounded by 4 clumps of quack grass. I used a 20 L bag of top soil for the 1/3 of the lawn that I've managed so far.  < 1/3 is being hopeful > The soil fills the void left by yanking out the weeds.

The mix that I use is fertilizer and grass seed. I was expecting rain, so it didn't. You see the new neighbour spent two full days, repairing her lawn. I looked at ours and said ' oh my ' < not quite >. Thats why I'm out doing our lawn.

Games Everyone Can Enjoy 🎲

no electronics here, for sale at Lehman s

I had a chance at a Nintendo game set on sale at Shoppers Drug Mart < our CVS >. Except, I wouldn't even know what the Nintendo can do. Figures !

Actually, five guys came in as a group and used the staff discount card to buy 5 sets

I discovered that we are paying the lawn service to cut crab grass and quack weed. I was pulling out dandelions and each time a square foot of quack weed got yanked out too !

Gorgeous day in S Ont. Sun and blue sky w/ gentle breezes

The Chromebook is announcing that my phone will now turn on my Chromebook. How ? Haven't a clue

OK, where does all this come from.

A long time ago, I managed to transfer music < songs > from the Chromebook to the phone < in fact, the Moto g5 > Since then, the music got from g5 to g8 w/out a hiccup.

Then somehow, the Chromebook lost the music files. Today, I tried to switch back from phone to Chromebook

No way !

you need an app that transfers files or // you put the music files on a USB stick. Then USB stick to Chromebook.

OR just use the freakin' phone b/c it can do it all

Frustration is a computing device While listening to You Tube - the lyrics for ' One Night in Bangkok ' from the musical ' Chess ' come to mind. " not much between despair and ecstasy '

FIVE-STAR FINDS ⭐ Picked by You!

at Lehman s, the winners were : mole chasing windmill

rotating clothes spinner, lambswool duster, beeswax polish and chainmail scrubber

A dreary day in S Ont. However, the week looked 80 % dynamic. P.S. at 2:30 PM its actually hot and partly cloudy

Neon signage is disappearing in Hong Kong. You might recall former photo vistas of Hong Kong - replete w/ towering - nay, massive advertising, glowing away into the night. From 40 neon sign makers 2 decades ago, the number is countable now on one hand.

And this AM, while working on the housekeeping, I listened to a ' podcast ' of the Arsenal Football Club of the English Premier League < apologies, I've left out a corporate name, that is always in the name EPL banner >

A podcast is great if you need entertainment and need to work. I use wireless headphones < Avantree, noise cancelling. It s a plug for a very good product > P.S. I get no money for being a ' trendie '

The skinny on AFC < back to the acronyms or letter representations > is a 4 - 6 place finish. The mitigating factors appear to be : can Arsenal beat lower ranked teams < the ' e - z ' points >. And can they continue to achieve good results against the top teams.

I used to own - mega Arsenal paraphernalia, clothes, badges etc. I still maintain a shelf in the basement corner glass cabinet - that is Arsenal Club rich. My interest in AFC goes back to 1966 when I discovered a team that was nicknamed the Gunners. Back then AFC played at Highbury Stadium, ackowledged legend in English football. For years, as a member of The Arsenal Football Fan Club of Canada, if I said ' I've been to Highbury ' the fellow groupies would turn and look to see who said it.

Yes, in 1978 I took the tube to ' Arsenal Station ' < the only club w/ a station named after them >. I watched as we lost to Ipswich < we were supposed to win > However, my story goes that w/in 2 years, Arsenal had acquired those goal scorers - Paul Mariner and Jens Lehman ? < I made that up b/c I forget his name >

I was so brave going by myself < I was 28 >. Yeah, until the girl beside me said " I came by myself, Daddy dropped me at the station in the Midlands and Grandad picked me up at the railway station, here in London. She was 14 ! She had traveled 70 miles to come there.

And I visited the Gunners Shop in Highbury, in 1988 or 9. The stadium was off season and you couldn't go in < to relive your memories >. I bought some stuff, natch, but the kicker was they closed the stadium shortly after

The ' new, shiny monster ' , Emirates Stadium <  named after the Airlines > is the gem de la gems of stadiums in England - unless you live in Manchester or Liverpool or even East London, home of Craven Cottage < Fulham FC and a bunch of  others over the years.

Yesterday's SNAFU

Wad happnd ? I tried to copy the weather maps from Brett Anderson s blog site for North America w/ the climatic patterns. And you saw that I got the blog header and BA s picture.

I suppose there was a change in the formatting system at Accuweather.

The A/C is off in the house. It s 68 F in the living room. M likes the temeprature above 70. Thus, I brought up the space heater for the living room. Must be Canada, you say.

Bright sun and wind for the day,  pleasant look for us.

We had an injury, on Thurs nite, < not the royal we > but M. She fell and cut her finger < badly > such that she severed a tendon. Splint and massive bandaging were applied. The drugs were purchased and we are waiting to see how well they'll work

Top-Notch Hand Tools 🔨

 from Lehman s

and I want them all < 6 > but I already have two of them - just a different name brand

# 2782 post

Fall weather arrived and stays. We don't top 70 F all week and the rain is a fixture

Speaking of hand tools - the whole dentist offfice minus the drills are hand tools and in good hands - ha ha ! And the latest news is that today < yes, I got an appointment for today >  is using the word ' extraction ' yepper, they'll cut out the tooth. Really, there is very little to grab anyway.

Oops ! in capitals, for sure. The filling < temporary tho' it is > was still there. Apparently, I wasn't listening when the Doc said ' I can't fill all the way to the edges b/c we don't want excessive pressure on that filling '. Well, it felt like a big hole w/ my tongue. However, they took photos and for sure < no crown > there isn't a safe margin for a fit

Great Lakes Brewery

my new source of beer. Free delivery and next day as well

a little pricey - at $ Cdn 3.00 or $2.20 US -per can

I ordered ' Pompous Ass Ale  ' & ' Blond Lager ' & ' New England Pale Ale '

Pompous Ass is a winner - the other two are test subjects

On being an anachronism. I've realized that purchasing a Moto g8 plus some months ago has changed how we view cell phones. I've noticed that M checks her cell phone each morning. Yes, it is handy - easy on and easy to access.

However, she's cute, check the phone for emails and then turn off the Moto g8.

I leave my on for the day. I think that she's trying to save battery time. But the Moto g8 plus can run for 2 days for us < no data plan just WiFi >

Thus, you pay a little more update your phone and you use the phone more. And, of course, this is the most expensive cell phone that we've bought. Interesting to note that these Moto g8 plus phones were ranked as entry level phones.

Fire Up the Flavor 🔥 in Your Backyard or in the Wilderness

Lehman s is talking about open fire cooking - as in hang a cauldron

Oops ! Tues night, after the dentist visit for cleaning, I felt a crunch < not heard felt >. A tooth fell apart and maybe a filling gave way. There was a space.

Got an emergency appointment, kindly staff there, and after 45 minutes, there was a temproary plug. The real goal is a crown or pull the tooth.

The prognosis was a short lifespan for the filling. Well, the filling made it to about 6 PM. Yes, the hole is back.

Simple Soaps for a Good, Old-Fashioned Clean ✨

 and not so simple

OK, first trip to the dentist since November 2019. She did a cleaning and the dentist and I talked about outboards and his practice.

Came home, and chipped a tooth < filling fell out ? - anyway there is a sharp edge up there left top toward the front. Great !

I quoted from one of my favourite novels ' the Drawing of the Dark '. I purchased this SF novel about 20 years ago. It turns out that 30 years ago a fledgling author wrote this story, then many others. You see Tim Powers wrote the book ' On Stranger Tides ' which was adapted into series of movies involving, Captain Jack Sparrow or the ' Pirates of the Caribbean genre of films.

Who knew ? Not me

Make Your Home Sparkle ✨ Everything You Need for a Deep Clean

 from the Lehman s advert

and this post is Issue 2776 in the series

If Amazon takes over the world - we here are responsible

Speaking of Amazon, you weren't and don't care. I ordered a pair of Luenx sunglasses < polarized > for 17 dollars. Fit was great and comfortable like you wouldn't believe. My face is Asian and slightly flat. Without an adjustable nose piece, the glasses sit on my upper cheek. Alright for some minutes, painful at an hour. These Luenx are beauts. OK dummy - pay a little more and get real sunglasses.

Except. Sunglasses for me are like socks - ' Oh, you lost a sock ' whats new. Experience. Bought a pair of prescription sunglasses ( $ 125 plus in say 1980 ) that lasted 1 week and had an anchor drop on them.

AN ANCHOR ! yep an anchor. The glasses got bent.

Back to the story. Inside the box w/ the sunglasses comes a soft carrying case < actually 2 b/c the wrapper is resealable and as good as any case > and a card.

" If you like these glasses, review us at Amazon and send the review and order no. We will offer you a second pair for your effort, free of charge "  What a come on.

Except they did. The second pair < even better, called aviators - wider lens and lighter frame > arrived yesterday. Four days after they promised to ship the item.

Bonus !. And, yes there's more " If you like we will add your name to our promotion list. In the future we will ask you to receive and review new complimentary products "

I know, these glasses will give me cancer or something.

Fishing Monday and Tues. Same story, a few fish but largemouth are hitting. Not giants but interested in chasing a plastic worm. And I fought the wind again, both days.

By accident, I purchased an old of date bottle of beer. The Liquor Control board sold me the beer but I contacted the brewer who aksed for information on the purchase. He said that the Board would not take reponsibility. However, his company sent a promo gift.

To repay them, I ordered a beer delivery from them.

One of the beers was Vienna Lager. I liked it. I thought of the name Vienna and sent the following

"" A song by Billy Joel

The first name of American singer - songwriter, Vienna Teng
Might I recommend :
" the Drawing of the Dark " by Tim Powers
published by Del Rey Book via Ballantine, NY
The major location is the ' Zimmerman Inn ' formerly the St Joseph Monastery, home of the Herzwesten beer, Vienna.
The hero Duffy discovers a vat w/ 3 spigots at varying heights.
The owner, wizard then says
" that vat has been in operation for 3 and half thousand years. Its like the solara method of blending sherry. Ordinarily, the vat would need to be cleaned but there are no floorboards. The beer seeps down into the dirt. The dirt doesn't rise.
The vat is built on the grave of Finn McCool. The top 2 layers are the famous Herzwesten light and bock. But the bottom spigot is for Herzwesten Dark. Actually, its like ' Finn broth ' - the essence of Finn McCool.
Hence, the drawing of the dark. Physically, spiritually potent.
Finn McCool is legendary king of the Beaker people, King of the Celts.
< the beaker people were believed to transmit the knowledge of beer making around Europe.
The city Vienna was originally named ' Vindobona ', literally, city of Finn  ""

Goodbye, Pests! Keep Pesky Rodents and Insects Away 🐭🐞

and they'll do this w/out poisoning your kids or cats

Unfortunately, all our pest problems get solved when massive amounts of DDT get applied.

E.g. wasps. I tried a fake nest < ha ha said the yellow guys >. Finally, the pest guy came and re - painted the garage w/ white powder < probably cocaine >

The mice. Traps and sticky paper. No dice, still mice.

The pest guy came and left mouse poison and felt so sorry for me that he left a bag of mouse poison. I put those blocks wherever I could think of. I stuck them in the eaves, behind the furnace < b/c they like to play there said the pest guy >

Fishing. The last three times, it has been cool enough to fish in pants. Today, the wind kicked up big time and I was hiding behinds the trees. I got one largemouth
