Sing it Karen - loved that voice.
This morning at the crack of dawn visited the Tilley store. Well, 10 actually, they keep normal hours. If you've seen me, you will know I wear a brimmed hat. It is a Tilley. Guaranteed for life, not to wear out. Of course, it does. They replace it free.
I bought the first Tilley T3, 25 years ago ( almost )on the day after our wedding, w/ money from the celebration. I paid $25 and M said " who pays $25 for a hat ? ". I kept taking hats back and got replacements. Then in 2008, the hat blew off and was lost in the lake. I bought a new one for $ 75.
Tilley also insures the hat for loss up to 5 years, and they pro-rate the loss.
This hat is now my tenth Tilley. And they let me keep the ' old one ' for a gardening hat.
If your keeping score and why would you, I'm 2 for 2 this AM. My burner came from the BBQ company. This burner is the free replacement ( see, free replacement is the theme ). Of course, the bundle had no screws. The old ones were rustier than the burner unit. In fact the first screw that I tried to turn fell out. Maybe I could use wooden pegs and just replace them as they wear out.
The USILA poll results are out and JHU moved up 1 place to 10 th. In the final 16, the top 8 get home field advantage. It really is for Hop ( in May ). I was hoping for 5 th but that didn't happen. A # 10 placing in the final 16 will probably have JHU playing - Duke / Va / NC which is not good.
Weather here is coolish / dribbles coming down w/ rain predicted. Warm winds for the rest of the week have us shooting into the mid to

As a follow up to my mention of CIRA, CIRA made the news in the business section.
Canadian Internet Regulating Agency (?), is a non profit conglomerate of interested parties in internet safety / promotion. It is well funded and thought to have high integrity ( world wide opinion ).
However, it seems that CIRA wants to control, who controls CIRA. The movement inside CIRA is to curb , general, public participation in the governance of CIRA. Apparently, people off the street can't be trusted b/c they could have an agenda. Therefore, the assumption goes if you run a business you can govern CIRA b/c your business has no agenda contrary to the integrity of CIRA.
Crikey, Thurs at mid-night I didn't even know CIRA existed. Now I'm reading 4 column reports on the governance of CIRA.
Well. Yesterday's game ( the game )wasn't broadcast on ESPN or any big TV station. I don't receive any U.S. cable service so I'm not allowed to watch JHU on ESPN or listen via CBS sports ( a cross border thing ).
I saw a link to " video/stats " on LaxPower - Live Action Game Reports - media services.
Loyola was broadcasting the game locally, on the internet. Got to watch the whole game. Bingo-bango we have a 5 goal lead and the ' dogs haven't scored. Loyola did what Loyola has done all year, they scored goals. in fact they scored 9 goals to Hop's 4. Yepper, tie game and sudden death OT. The buffering went out twice, once in the third 1/4 and yessir, in OT.
I saw the replay, the goalie didn't. Whose goalie , theirs. A pass comes out front. A Canadian throws the ball toward a Bluejay who flicks his stick at it, the ball drops down and rolls in the goal. So, they played for 63 min and 57 sec and the ball rolls across the goal line. Hop has knocked off one of two undefeated teams and for the second time this year , I think, they've beaten the #1 ranked team ( I'm sure Va was #1 when they lost to Hop ).
And I was thinking while Loyola was scoring goals w/ abandon the last 1/2 of the game. no one is going to give JHU credit for hanging in tough against #1. The story line would be " Bluejays blow another big lead ". With the win the question becomes, who will give the 'dogs credit for coming back from almost oblivion.
Ah such is life.
This is not as Nigel Starling would say " the struggle is the glory " situation. Nigel was a missionary in Africa in the movie " Ghost and the Darkness " ( which I've surely, mentioned previously ). You win / you lose.
Truth be told, the sportswriters at Inside Lacrosse, have a weekly pool, picking the winners in a set of games. They picked Hop 7 -5 over Loyola. This speaks to the bias, that is perceived, JHU vs other teams.
As Petriemala has said repeatedly ( this is Coach Petro ) " this is Hopkins, there is an expectation among the fans, the team and everyone else, that Hopkins should win ". of course, I bask in the expectation and live and wither with the results.
Maybe, its just me, but I think Hop wins more close games and blows more leads than any other team, that I notice. Focus ? , since I key on JHU all year. Perhaps other teams feel the same way.
Actually, in the Lacrosse Annual that JHU publishes there is a stat about how many 1 goal games Hop has won. A bunch.
Oh and our Toronto Rock of the NLL won their last game and lock up first place and a game against the Buffalo Bandits. I can't figure which name is worse, " Rock or Bandits " How about the Toronto Hammers or Toronto Smoke ( we are sometimes called the " big smoke ".
Apparently, if you drive south from the higher ground you can see the smog sitting over T.O.
Kind of " don't drink the water and don't 'eat' the air ".

Saturday in the morning
I know, you don't care. Huh, here's what has been accomplished this AM.
Lawn got mowed - check ( neighbour's kids did it , yep hired them for the summer )
Computer was checked for " domain mis-use virus ". On Thurs night on RCI, the topic was a domain piracy story. Apparently, a virus is going around that affects how your computer is routed from domain to domain. BTW - if this sounds like gobbledy-gook , its not the show's fault but mine b/c I can't explain the situation properly. Go to CBC radio - RCI and the " Link " is the program, Thurs Apr 26 and there is a web address you can click on.
You can monitor how your computer is directed and check the domain name. The FBI as well as other organizations are aware of this fraud. The FBI in particular is using its computer programs to block or rectify the piracy. The FBI will pull down their service come July.
I went to a CIRA site ( something about domain providers against bad things - kidding, I forget what they are ) and the program determines if its likely your computer has been affected. I passed.
Dug and sprayed for weeds and veg growing in the interlock - crikey what a pain that is. The interlock is old - read big cracks and lots of dirt in the spaces. The veg grows like weeds.
Now, we wait to see how the boys of spring do against Loyola - undefeated, # 1 ranked. The game is at " the dog pound " b/c these are the Greyhounds of Loyola University of Maryland .
Hate going to the pound, it is alien territory being up the street from Homewood. They don't like us much up there in doggy land.
GO JAYS GO heck I'm not bias. We have bam-bam sticks in the front window that say " JHU ROTC Go Jays - Blue Jays Unlimited "

Cell phones - the new religion
I mentioned controversial topics e.g. religion. But daring soul that I am, the rant to-day is about cell phones.
Huh ? Where did this come from ?
I topped up my 2 ( count 'em two )cell phones.
M has one too. One cell ph is the local Toronto number and the other is a QMH cell ph.
The QMH ph is maintained so that neighbours up at QMH don't need to dial long distance to call me.
So far in two years, 95 % of calls to that QMH number come from M. The other 5 % are local calls neighbours and businesses.
Why does M call, both phones are pay-as-you-go at 25 cents / minute therefore, we need to balance usage over the two phones. To wit , both phones started last May w/ approx $ 100 credit. To-day, even w/ our " balance the phones out " attempts, the QMH # had $ 54 credit and the Toronto # had $ 34 credit.
However, if you do the math, you'll see even at 25 cents / min which is el ludicreso, my phones cost 100 dollars to use for the year ( almost ). M pays $ 10 / month and the balance rolls over ( her plan is grandfathered ). Bell cellular changed their policy 2 years ago and I lost the roll-over, so I quit Bell Cell.
The phones were bought for $ 150. So, total for the 3 phones $220 / year.
Yep, I'm too cheap to get a monthly plan. I could probably get by with 1 phone and $ 500 a year unlimited texting etc. But the neighbours at QMH would need to dial LD.
Cell phone etiquette. Last night four guys had their cell phones ( organizers - net ready electronics ) turned on. One guy has two tones one dings for e-mails ( all night long ) the other ding is a song that plays for phone calls. He picks up right at the table and carries on a conversation.
On Wed night the QMH league, everyone turns off their cell phones to play cards.
Two items here, yes it's inconsiderate to talk on the phone at the table but I suspect this is normal behaviour for the guy and he knows , no other way to deal w/ the phone ( i.e. the phone is his identity ).
The second item that I noticed is, you should not talk on the phone in front of others b/c the way you speak while on the phone reveals nuances such as how you feel about that person or the topic, most likely both. People listening can only assume your facial expressions etc are the same when you talk to them on the phone.
I've witnessed times in public where I've said " I'm glad I'm not on his speed dial ".
Then there is the inevitable " emergency call " while driving. There must be massive emergencies all over considering how amny people are on the phone.
Further, in a car w/ 4 people, its the driver on the cell phone not the passengers. Or maybe you notice the driver more, I don't think so.

world peace
The standard criticism of the Miss America pageant was the final interview when every contestant wanted world peace.
I discovered that they probably meant " meta world peace "
which I thought was an NGO working in the middle east.
Lo and behold its a basketball player who hit the news cycle again with a multi-game suspension. I recognize that I'm a little out of touch but some info is bizarre.
Will Rogers was right, he didn't need to make anything up, people are enough.
In Alberta, the Wild Rose party which is supposedly more right wing than the Progressive Conservatives finished second to the PC party. The commentary was that this election showed that a middle of the road party can win in Alberta. I figure the politics in Alberta is so right wing - middle of the road puts them on a par with the Tea Party.
In Toronto, a bus collided w/ a transport truck. The truck won.
The way this blog is going, I figure religion is the next topic.

Missing
So far, we missed the brunt of the storm. We saw pictures from Cleveland, Oh and further north in Ont.
The corn gluten is well watered in by now, frozen but watered in.
BTW - " knight in shining armour " lyric was the Stones, form the album ( yep, vinyl magic ) " Emotion " ? never got this one.
PP ( pet peeves ) this machine is a Dell Studio laptop 19 in. Complaint ! It seems to run down ( battery ) pretty quick. I guess I run the screen at " fairly bright " and I've seen that this power usage causes quicker run down time. the setting is " balanced power " . The icon tells you that 1h 15, is 45 % power. But that was just yesterday, I think.
A friend said that the best routine for the battery is to run the battery down and re-charge when the icon says to re-charge. I'm charging now. Actually, A , takes his battery out of the laptop and plugs it in. i'm not sure that I want to do that although, the laptop seldom gets used anywhere but inside a house or building w/ power access.
On the netbook, I decided to try "power saver "mode and use a dimmer screen. I'm practicing for when I use " e -book " or Caliber to read a book on the netbook. Someone gave us 800 books on a thumb drive plus the " caliber " program.
My first download was " The rum diary " by H.S. Thompson.
The DVD was a disappointment. did I say this already ?
Apparently, the dimmer setting makes reading on the netbook easier on the eyes and saves power. assuming, of course, that you read a long time i.e. more than 1/2 h at a time.

Give me shelter from the storm
We are expecting a a warm front from the G of Mexico and a northern cold front at the same time. Snow / sleet /hail and wind. Well its 8 AM and we got the wind.
BTW - M heard randy Bachman's " Vinyl Tap " on Sunday heading home from Baltimore. There was a station out Kingston way that carries a Sun night feed. She said it was interesting.
Ah, maybe after 25 years we have something in common.
" A ship-wrecked sailor on this coast bids you set sail. Full many a gallant sail weathered the storm 'ere this ship was lost "
This inscription is supposed to be or was on the headstone of grave in the Mediterranean somewhere.
I think that I borrowed the post title above from a Bob Dylan song.
" I will be your knight in shining armour coming to your emotional rescue " probably the " Rolling Stones " I'll look it up

Sunday, oh no-sun day
Well, def, no sun but it has rained off and on for twenty hours. I didn't need to water in the corn gluten. In lawn news, a young-ish man came to the door canvassing for core aeration.
So for $80 ( front and back ) he did the aeration.
We gave up our lawn care guy this year. Ont has a ban on all lawn drugs for pests and weeds. figured the lawn guy was basically using corn gluten and keeping the grass thick. Of course, thick grass means that I mow like crazy all spring.
Solution, get rid of lawn care and hire the neighbour kids to do the lawn. I pay them less than a lawn service but bribe them w/ bacon, In Ptrboro, Franz's Meats sells its own smoked bacon ( blue ribbon, no less ) not cheap but real meat. Thick cut and delish.
In the Star, an Insight article focussed on medical care for a cancer patient. The major issues were the lack of comprehensive direction in patient care and the hands off practices of most doctors. The woman felt lost and mis-informed constantly. she now advocates for advocation by one's self to prod the medical system. Overall, she has given up pursuing a cure ( her breast cancer is triple negative, not good ) and is intent on living a directed and energized life w/ friends and her son.
I know with my father, a lot of phone calls resulted in not much help. Well, we could have got help but what a paltry offer I got.
Dad was in a seniors retirement facility associated w/ Community Care Access ( the agnecy for gov't care in the area ). The Momiji had a check up service in the AM and PM. Oh, what a cafuffle that was. It felt so good knowing that I didn't have to visit Dad in the morning and someone checked at night.
Of course, I got calls from Dad pointing out how difficult it was for him to adjust to the scheduled check ins. I would find notes on the door " momiji, i'm out and OK , sam "
BTW - Dad and I had a tumultuous relationship, we are both tigers by the oriental zodiac. The adage is " never two tigers under the same roof ". It always felt good knowing why dad and I never got along.
Conversely, M says that I am my dad. Oh yeah
be careful with your denials, they come back to bite you.
BTW2 - JHU did lose 8 - 2. There will be much gnashing of teeth in Blue Jayland. I had three gins ( w/ a dab of vermouth, almost martinis ) to celebrate or mourn.

Overall, overall
First, checked in JHU is losing 6 - 1 to Navy. In 2010, I watched Navy come back from a 5 goal deficit at home in Annapolis. They are doing it to JHU at Homewood. Crikey.
Played poker in three " groups " M calls them my leagues. Wed / Thu / Fri are 3 different groups. The Wed group is a winter league ( see, league slipped in ) Fri is once a month.
The Thu game can be weekly. I'm down $ 100 for the week.
Apparently, Ontario Lottery and Gaming ( OLG ) the prov agency for gambling is down way more , e.g. 100 million year over year over year b/c they've been sliding downward for four years. Of course, these are the dudes that want to build a "destination " casino in T.O. backed by MGM management etc. if the hype is true.
The Star ran an analysis provided by David Olive , who is the financial writer for the Star. Our OLG returns 2.7 % to charities and Derives 70 % of its revenues in casinos from slots. The number of under 45 year olds attending casinos is in steady decline.
U.S. data shows states would rather run their own gambling than lose patrons to neighbouring states.
Surprise, Vegas and Atlantic city are both losing visitors and money, AC by 37 %.
In Ontario the data shows that there are no new gamblers as in " been there , done that and don't necessarily want to try again ".
OLG may have saturated the gambling market and have no more wiggle room.
According to the Star, the demographic has the lowest income brackets as the best " bet " ( love it , best bet ) to gamble. As in this is where social assistance money goes.
The BBQ situation is more or less solved. The company is shipping the $ 70 - 90 part ( burner assembly ) for $ 16 postage, should be here soon.
Put corn gluten on the lawns at home and QMH. The Scotts product is anti-weed if you catch the weeds early in the season. I may have missed the window as they say. I'm thinking dandelion salad may be the best weed control program, that or a goat.

In the news
They ran the Boston Marathon. yesterday or rolled it as in this report. A Canadian Josh ..... in a wheelchair set a world mark in the heat of Boston, this when both men's / women's running times were the slowest in 20 - 30 yrs.
I kinda lolled around the house and did book-keeping. Big successes included getting the BBQ company to maybe send me a replacement burner for the BBQ. We redeemed Air Miles in '08 to get the BBQ. Apparently, we received a BBQ built in '04. With proof of purchase or point redemption, we may get a new burner assembly ( Shipping extra ).
A neighbour at QMH, sent an article re: the Battle of Culloden " ( Scotland ).A heritage centre provides a history of the battle and the consequences. There are many myths and inaccuracies dispelled by the HC. Luckily, I have no misconceptions. At Culloden, some dudes got to-gether and had it out w/ swords and stuff. I believe that is fairly accurate unless they used RPGs or SAMs.
Its amazing that in the last ten days or so, the UK trip has slid into the bckground b/c everything is settled in terms of transport and accomodation. The trip comes up in passing, mainly, ensuring business gets handled while we are gone.

Whew
Yes, we made it home. M has a cold or infection. I'm groggy.
Longer than on the way down ( 12.5 h )
We are definitely not long haul drivers. We got to Watertown at 5 ( just shy of the border ) and had to decide whether to stay overnight or try for home.
Thankfully M , drove from Watertown to Kingston, On and Denny's. Then she offered to drive til dark ( and fog ). I took over at 8 ish and made the spurt for home.
No wonder driving to Fla is tiresome. We reckoned that 2 days, each like our Sun. drive home, would not quite get us to Tampa. We still wound need 3 h or so.
I guess we'll fly again.
Meanwhile I borrowed a phone for the U.S. week end. On Thur night I tried to charge using the USB port on the laptop. Something happened and the Dell Studio 19 inch will not start Windows.
Unbelieveably, I created a back up thumb drive, sometime ago. I guess I'll use it. A friend who is much more conversant with computers will help re-boot / reload / re-start the beast.
Now, I'm wondering do I have a back up for the PC desk jobby.
Thankfully, if the PC goes down the biggest loss might be pictures but the pics are backed up twice ( thumb drive and CDs ).
Update 2012 7-18 Sunday night, we pulled up in Kingston gas / pee / eat not necessarily in that order. Hit the locate button on Rebecca ( she didn't get this name til England ) and she brought up ten restaurants and the distance and direction.
We opted for Denny's b/c I'm such a big spender. We are crawling into the techno age

Sun is leaving day
We lost. The "royal " we. 9-6 Good start - dispirited end.
However, when the band played and the Black and Blue charged out - it was worth it. Another Walter Mitty moment. Don Quixote eat your heart out.
Oh, boy, literary references, ad nauseum.
Yep, headed home. Harrisburg / Binghampton / Cuse and Ivy Lea.

Fri is road day
All right, I did play cards last night and got in late.
We started this morning at 8:30 in Scarborough
and drove to Baltimore Md. Total time 12 h.
Neither one of us is a long haul driver. M and I split the drive and reached Balto in zombie-like condition. We don't think driving to FlaUSA is in the cards anytime soon.
We are safely ensconced in the Radisson X Keys, w/ pizza , beer and wine
To-morrow, is JHU v Md.
Update 2012 7-18 The pizza place is called ' Arlon's ' .Not sure, how popular it is but it should be. Great value for pizza, salads, curry goat and other assorted take out food. We get food from there at least once while in Balto. I'd eat there every day but M sort of lieks a tablecloth and wine older the hamburger buns
' Arlon's ' is on Falls Rd

Wed in summation
QMH events. We are getting a fire station in the village. The village is Hiawatha Reserve, owned by the Mississauga band. The presence of the fire station will lower the insurance costs substantially. So out of 7 guys , turns out I'm the only one that is pleased. Comments included #1 I'm going to wait an hour before calling the fire dept. in, anyways ( insurance )
#2 look what it will do to traffic, its already bad #3 they're so rich they are just looking for things to build ( the Reserve got 31 million from a lands claim for flooding of the land when building ? the Trent Severn Waterway )
Oh well, this is what makes the world go round, the differences. Suffice it to say, I get my firehall. And I think it has to have a super pumper. A super pumper can carry XXXX gallons of water so that it doesn't need a hydrant ( we don't have any ).
BTW - I'm sitting here typing b/c I got suspended in the Bank of Montreal sign in window on the internet. I forgot or mistyped my password, crap. I'm on hold waiting or the next available agent. I wrote down clues for the PW and then forgot what it means. I try to be mysterious when making up passwords, however, there is a downside to being cute. B/c there is too cute for your own good.
What happened to " one ring to rule them all " or 1 PW for them all. I must have ten to remember or not remember.

Tuesday calling
Finished watching " Seabiscuit ". Yep, teared up a bit. Its not my fault.
Back to social media, which I'm only part of b/c #1 I do this blog and some parts of the U.S. follow my meanderings
#2 I use the internet for e-mail and some of it is international.
Yeah, I'm not sure opening yourself up to strangers is smart. Friendly is good, however, not everyone out there is a friend.
Gian Gomeshi ( radio host CBC ) was interviewing a chap re: social media and what a person writes or airs. Unfortunately, what we as consumers put out there gets read as a summary of who you are. What you print may be a tiny interest you have or be momentarily relevant. But that blurb gets read by others as your identity. Which could be good or bad or even dangerous.
Hey, I watch other movies besides " Seabiscuit "
QMH ( recall Quarter Mile House ) happenings.
Year 1, I got the boat in early maybe Apr 1. went cruising and fished a bit. While on the water I noticed everyone else doing lawn stuff and general chores and went " Uh oh ".
there is so much to do gearing up after winter.
Somethings have been streamlined. for example. I don't try to crank up the riverside pump. It gave up or I gave up on it.
Since I won't water the lawn or pasture around the QMH, I decided that pumping water up the hill is a waste.
As well, there was a cross connect between the house water system and the riverside pump. Accidentally, I opened the cross-connect of these two and got river water in the house pipes while changing the filters. Crikey ! What a pain in the derriere that was.
However, some good came out of it b/c now I get water down at the boathouse at almost twice the pressure in the house ( water goes downhill for 60 ft ). I re-routed the hose system and will soon have a sink cum fish cleaning station ready to-go.
So, since year 1, I carefully manage my time and make sure chores get done before I launch or fish. I get a little antsy but its no use waiting til May or June for chores b/c then I'm way behind.

As Usual
Ala Will Rogers and in keeping w/ past trends, I once again turn to the news.
This item via CBC ( surprise, surprise ). A young lady had her picture identified on face book as a person involved in a bar room assault. The I.D. was erroneous but it took months and dollars ( 2,000 give or take ) to clear up the misidentification.
Further, the piece went on to discuss the privacy issues associated w/ putting your stuff " out there ".
Recently, Saturday, I was accused of being less than open when I wouldn't sign up for Facebook, in order to Skype someone. Alright there is some Luddite-ism involved and yes, I could surf the world.
Thoughts of ex-girlfriends looking me up fills me w/ dread. Along w/ a whole bunch of other issues. of course, I could have a twin out there separated at birth or be an heir to a Swiss fortune... right !
Ellen Degeneress or Justin Bieber may be waiting to take my call on Facebook or Twitter or Etherdom.
Did I mention that I'm re-reading a series by Glen Cook, " Instrumentalities of the Night " and specifically the first 2 books " Tyranny of the Night " and " Lord of the Silent Kingdom " ? So you won't think that I've totally lost it and can't remember what I blogged ( which is mostly true ). The reference above, reminded me that in the first two books, the hero Piper Hecht begins to find out that he is son of a very powerful family ( of a polar opposite religion ). Pipe and sister were separated in a slave raid. Pipe grew up as slave - soldier ( a Navy Seal, in to-days terms and with the name Else Tage). However, through solid detective work the father, Grade Docker finds his children Pipe and Heris.
To wit, if there had been Facebook, Grade might have found his children much easier instead of travelling the known world and using necromancy ( Grade's father is a Principate of the Collegium and one mean master of the mystic arts ) Grade isn't / wasn't too bad himself until he got shot full of silver ( Pipe, shot his father before he knew about the relationship, in fact, Grade didn't know either ) In fact, one of Else tage's jobs was to spy on the Collegium and his father's outfit ' the Brotherhood of War '

Writing to the ether
Sequitor to yesterjour. The " 2sentsworth.... " is not the loneliest blog in the ether. The record for the biggest blog is safe..... but this " 2sentsworth... " is holding it's own.
thus, to Ohio and Massachusetts a big thanks.
We're watching " Seabiscuit " to-night. Recorded on the PVR. Ah, the story of the little guy makes it big. The story of North America recovering from the Great Depression.
Apparently, " Secretariat " was pretty good too.
Oh, another on my fave list is " Finding Neverland " w/ Depp and Winslett. I've been known to tear up watching some movies. This one for sure

Is this.................
I'm going to have to assume that this is.......... not the loneliest blog in town or the ether-sphere. It is slightly therapeutic, blogging. hopefully, the FBI or whatever doesn't get hold of this for prosecution purposes or as I'm reading in news from the U.S., persecution. Apparently, the number of anti -government anti - everything groups is on the rise. The benchmark is pre / post Obama, which in itself is spooky.
As Canadians, we'd probably have voted 60 - 70 % Obama. B/c we sure didn't vote 60 % Harper, we're not that crazy. Heck, we voted almost 30 % NDP at the same time. M says our friend another M from Ohio, is a closet Canadian, i.e. in her attitude to medical care and social safety nets. I'm not sure the other M wants to be known or suspected as a " closet Canadian " those Americans are pretty careful about being anything other than American. McCarthy casts a long shadow.
Oh boy, too much politics. However, I did see a definition of ' politics ' as what happens when two people talk. there's a potent topic.
Shall we try religion, oh, been there done that , haven't I - " Kingdom of Heaven " tangentia.
Ah, the weather sunny and coolish but SUNNY for Easter week end, it is terrif.
So, is this the loneliest blog in the Blogosphere ? I'm probably in the ten %. That phrase is the defining attribute of biker gangs or is it the 1 %.
when the " Occupy Movement " began I figured we were not in the 1 % but was pretty sure we made 20.
Saw the article in the Star, concerning the coming " Avengers " movie, bringing to-gether Super heroes from Marvel films / comics. Thor, Iron Man, Capt America, Hawkeye ( barely remember him ) and Scarlett Johansen as someone. however, Patrick McNee was not going to be Steed and no Emma Peel either. I'm not sure Diana ( hearthtob ) Rigg could throw herself around the way she used to, anyway.
Update 2012 7-17 Growing up, I thought Diana Rigg was a goddess - what am I talking about, she was a goddess.
BTW - saw Purdy ( Joanna Lumley )from the " New Avengers " on an ' Inspector Lewis " episode on PBS.

Dreary days
Woke up this morning , early. Again.
A while ago, I saw a light on at the neighbours, they are a little older than us. Me, " Saw a light on , did you have a late night ? "
Reply " No, we both couldn't sleep so we got up at 3:30 " This is the breakfast at 6 , lunch at 11 and dinner at 4 , in bed at eight oldsters routine.
Unfortunately, we already have the 4 o'clock for dinner thing down when on holidays. Takes advantage of early bird specials and crowds at night. heck, we even do the 4 PM or earlier when home.
Well, it was dreary this morning. Its supposed to brighten up during the day. " rainy days and Mondays " the Carpenters.
Update 2012 7-18
Ah yes, the sultry song stylings of Karen carpenter - her voice is still instantly recognizable by anyone born pre -1980

tuesday, tuesday ( singing )
The GPS story continues. drove for the first time what an annoying voice. we had to stop and mute her. Unfortunately, I had to shut down the program and start again. Discovered that beside the map and route, there is a data provider w/ speed, distance, ETA, time to next turn, distance to next turn,
So Luddites take notice, Im on the tech trail.
Al who can sniff out a bargain at long distance esp on line, thought he found a dash mount like mine for $4.99. It turned ou to be a disc that sticks to the dash and then you suction the mounting cup to the disc.

Monday doings
Seems as though, Monday is the day. Busy day
Job 1 - tried the GPS connected to the PC. The flashing blue symbol that says " trying to recognize your device " was in full swing. called Garmin. Ten minute wait. A pleasant lady worked me through about ten steps and..... nada + 20 minutes. Switched to a software dude. " Do you use Internet Explorer. Well IE won't recognize your device. Do you have Google Chrome available " Yes. " Well lets go there " Bingo bongo 3 steps and done + 6 minutes. however, if I ever need to program my GPS in Spanish from any one of four countries or German or .... these languages are all gone thanks to the first lady. My Espanol was never very good. I mean anyone who thinks " dos tacos, por favor " is I LOVE YOU in Spanish is probably illiterate in two languages.
Bought a dash board mount for the GPS, which eliminates the suction cup on the window. The saliva circle is a dead give away that your kid has a bow and arrow or you have a GPS or expensive mobile device. Mr Cheapo found a $ 9 bean bag mount at the Source cf $ 14 to 29 for other versions. This mount resembles an easy chair sitting on your dash. Boy, hope that GPS is real comfy. Apparently, that little sucker can almost drive the car. Almost. NUVI can do a lot of things. No, wait could do a lot of things.
.............. still haven't put in a destination that works, seems as though a different address " pops up " I'm going to stop doing the postal code thing and go in the long way -city/ #/ street name. The Blue Jays lost 13 - 9. Drat ( and thats exactly what I said " more or less ".

Sequitor,sequitaris
These are the Latin declensions as I remember them
Following on from yesterjour.
GPS registration is still on hold. The window that says connect your GPS to the computer, still flashes and spins and nothing happens.
Will call their hotline to-morrow.
The JHU BJs are on the ropes down 8-4 in the first half. UNC are winning faceoffs and cutting and picking like high quality garbagemen and this is not an insult.
Meanwhile, two years ago we had a steel roof installed. On leaving the installers said that I needed more ventilation on the eaves. Not an expensive job. Sooooo, called and got three estimates
1) you need new soffit and might as well do the eaves trough $ 5K
2) the whole job will probably be 5-7 K but really you don't need anything ( too honest, huh ? )
3) don't touch it but if you do ... if you do go with wider eavestrough and downspouts / gutter guards / replace the soffits all around, this will finsih off your home's curb appeal. He'll send an estimate but it won't be $5K
One option is to cut holes in the soffit and stick on vents in 3 - 4 places. This is from operator #1 . Won't be esthetic but it will do the job.
El Crappola, open a can of worms and you get a can of worms.

One option is to cut holes in the soffit and stick on vents in 3 - 4 places. This is from operator #1 . Won't be esthetic but it will do the job.
