The backstory is that for ten years, this filament Xmas tree was my Mom s tree in the nursing home. Thus, a lot of sentiment goes w/ this decoration.

The saga. I goofed. Our big Dell laptop puchased in 2010 used to run only Windows. I changed over to Chrome as the browser but Windows is the base platform. This conflict of systems occassionally snarls up but usually, works.

8 months ago the battery light started to flash ' yellow ' [ yellow is not good ] meaning the battery wasn't charging. I removed the battery and decided to run on straight AC power

OK except if the laptop gets unplugged while active, the operating system could shut down [ as in wipe out all data ]

3 weeks ago, the laptop was having trouble starting and staying ' on '      [ Oops, is the word ]. I ordered a replacement battery from Walmart for $ 102 b/c Dell had a price of $ 169. A 2 week delivery window.

To be fair, there is every chance that that the ' knock off battery ' may not fit exactly or at all [ take your lumps ]
.......Well, the battery didn't arrive - anywhere, not at the store [ pickup place ] or w/ the shipper [ Oops ! you're thinking ? 

Recall, this is not Amazon delivery service [ just a pretend Amazon ].  I called Walmart ' help ! ' line. Nice chap says ' we will contact the seller and seller will get in touch '

Right ! Seller s message reads ' we will look into this matter for you '
Nope. Called Walmart ' Help Desk '. 

" this issue will be expedited at the ' trouble desk '. What ? They have trouble or I do ?????

Guess. a phone call today from Walmart ' Expediting desk ' : your laptop battery is in your local store. please allow a day or two to process the package in house '

Thus, I get a battery. Will it fit ?

A raw day. Not terribly cold or windy but uncomfortble.

I brought home Chinese takeout to assuage the feelings of loss for the crowns that almost fit.

And approx 2 yrs ago, I streamlined a chandelier. Original ornamentation in the hall ceiling, the baubles of glass hung low enough to hit any object that you carried. I removed a tier of baubles and didn't tell M.. - she failed to notice.
This year, I thought, Ummh ! Hang the baubles from a tree outside. I organized the baubles into chains and went out and strung them w/ fishing line [ of course ]. 
Success !. The chains glitter like icicles and in the breeze sparkle [even during the day] although better at night

And I found Xmas boxes [ decorated already ] then we can give each other gifts w/out wrapping boxes. Sometimes a gift bag doesn't seem the correct packaging.

The beer of the day is Laguinatas out of California, an IPA. The profile is bitter after taste and strong alcohol content. For today s beer this is just right.

Agenda. Today is 'Football Day' for L.. and his friends. I've been invited for 40 + yrs. The day, originally, fell on U.S. Thanksgiving and started as let s watch football ( NFL ). 
However, we got tired of watching the Detroit Lions crumble in front of our eyes and no one is a Dallas fan. The Cowboys, seemed to be the late game.

Then, 30 years ago, the Kentucky Fried Chicken Day   [ thats the menu ] became Balck Friday, we'll watch NCAA games. TG

As a testament to ' do you really know what you're doing ' - last night, I realized that I could dictate emails and blog posts using the Duet Chromebook [ yes, the one that I've had for 2 yrs almost ].

In my defence, if there is any ..... I usually use a remote keyboard. Thus, the native on screen keypad window doesn't show. And I hate that on screen ' keypad '. Now, I know that Ican dictate.

Well, first portion of social activities is completed. A pleasant afternoon, football definitely secondary to the company. There is a spread of approx 15 yrs in the people for ' Football Black Friday '.

Apparently, the last of our reprieve from cruddy weather. Cold and rain for the next couple of days. Warmth returns beginning of the week.

Well, control program hit a speed bump. Weight stayed the same, however, this is a long term project [like forever, or longer ]. 

I didn't sweep through the CBC on line b/c there will be no uplifting news. Viruses are running through the children, a combination of cold, flu and maybe CV 19.
Actualy, vaccination rates are low amongst children. The little ones are back to school [ and infecting and re - infecting one another ].
Inflation is here and interst rates are alarming to mortgage holders.
Oh, did I skip any gloomy stuff ? Likely, I did.

I watched a YouTube video on how to make ' better ' coffee. The takeaway was that automatic perks fail in making good coffee.
Faults include cool to lukewarm water on startup, no steeping period at the beginning and the hotplate boils the coffee [ thats not good, who knew ? ].
I tRI createed to offset these steps. Discovering that a measuring cup does a poor pouring job on the coffee grounds. James Hoffman the coffee expert suggested adding hot water to the grounds at the start. This action allows the coffee to steep for a few minutes. Next, I warmed the water that goes into the reservoir preventing cool water from being first to touch the grounds.

The end assessment ? I want to say ' Wow ! real coffee !! ' but I think the coffee tastes better. Bear in mind that I normally, drink yesterdays coffee that sat on the hotplate and cooled down and sat in the thermos carafe for 18 hours. Duh, yeah this coffee should be ' better '.

Today,  chores well things such as the leaf blower with gas still in the tank can't leave it for the winter so it's got to be burnt out that's what it is. Blue leaves for half an hour waiting for the gas store note did it do anyways that's what you do when you own equipment got to work at it got to maintain

A report on ' control plan ' for me. Weigh was 177.4 # and thats up form Thursday. However, we stay the course. The rationale was that sensible eating pays long term dividends.

Well I got up to pee must have been 5:15 - 5:30 something like that. Anyways, I started making up a little speech speech. I don't know what I'm talking about but it kept me awake and

 it went something like this.

I don't know how to explain it.
I don't know which group I'm talking about. Is it an age? delineation is it a cultural one? I don't know. Is it a school or thought I don't know?

But it seems that there are rules. I don't know another term for it and I see it and feel it in the way people talk about cell phones.

Cell phones are always available. I'm having trouble putting it into words of course, but it goes something like the old sort of joke that went  "more. Of course there is more. That's what more means. "
 I really believe that there's this population of people out there that believe that cell phones are meant to be and are always going to be available.

Next cell phones are indestructible.
They are organic. You drop them. They bruise and then they heal. It's almost incredible people drop their phones and they go. 'Oh,  that's nothing. I threw it down the stairs at school and it went down 20 steps and I just picked it up and used it ! '
and I really believe that there is this set of people out there that truly believe that the reason that there are mats and carpeting and other flooring devices that are purpose-built to make sure that the cell phone does not get hurt.

And finally, I would probably phrase it, that the cell phone is ' me ' or something like that.

The cell phones get their own decorations, personalized. That's the term.
 As well, the cases that people have decorated with sequins and you know buttons and decals that sort of thing. It's just it's just absolutely amazing and I really believe that that particular zeitgeist is that the cell phone is me ' my personality '.

And then there is the the need for new cell phones like the one I have now. But there's something new coming along for sure.
I remember thinking, a few years ago, ' what, folding cell phones are coming back ? '.
I remember when I had a flip phone and the first opportunity came and I got a solid one piece cell phone. Who wanted a flip phone ?

Indeed in the bleak midwinter well, it's 29 Fahrenheit out there. The high is going to be 34. It is cold. Just popped out to grab the paper.  that was cool!
 Anyways, this is my dictation start for this blog episode.
I guess that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference b/c I do dictate into the phone and then correct.
The ability of the phone to recognize syntax and structure of the dictation is a marvel.

' Control ' is the term that I'm using for my weight reduction plan. Did I say, that Thur weigh in produced a 176.6 #. Alright, ' control ' is the term b/c actually, very few food items are excluded. Reduced in use, not excluded.

To wit, pizza from the Metro. Their pizza is $ 11 for a large. In this house that s approx 4 meals. Now, that number could go to 5 or 6.
I had pizza twice during the week [ just not a lot, see ? ]. Last night, we ate Tater Tots [ French fries in nugget shape ].

My current theory says that although ' control ' is good, I also am eating 2 brazil nuts a day to supplement trace minerals such as selenium. All just theory but heck, the toal cost is 5 cents a day. And who knows how much gets processed out of our food.

When we reflect on our mistakes, we are supposed to learn. You shouldn't wallow in your errors.

Well, I do. Weeks after I'm still unsettled about the printer.
The story. The laptops that I use are both Chromebooks. The Chrome OS is lauded for speed and versatility. Fast loading [ there is minimal program storage internally ] and responsive.

Typically, a Chromebook comes w/ limited [ ONE ] port ( s ). The rationale is that you add a dongle [ interface hub ] and plug in whatever you need. The Chromebook is reputed to run 5 attached peripherals w/out a glitch.

As well, Chrome OS is touted as delivering almost unlimited adaptability for printers. You hit a button and the OS finds a printer.

Except. I struggled for a year and half when we added a new printer [ an HP ]. At first, I had success and then - frustration. How do you spell ' computer ', ' a - a - r -r -g - h !!!!! '.

One day, four weeks ago [ ? ], I saw a YouTube title, something like ' VPN causing mis - link '. 

OK. Yes, I use a VPN on both Chromebooks. I turned off VPN and as promised the Chromebook found the printer instantly.

I had been placing the Chromebook right beside the printer. The supposed range of the BluTooth sensor on the printer was limited. Nope. 
Now, a room away, the Chromebook finds the printer.

Aarrgh ! Aarr .....rrrr gh !

A cold day again. I've yet to bring in the hoses and turn off the water. Now, the day is bright and welcoming

All right, I promise not to do this all the time. In fact, this may be the last, but the topic is the pixel 6A, the cellphone

well let's talk about features. First of all, Pix6a is going to let me dictate texts, emails and blogger
Next it's camera is multifunctional. It does many things that I didn't dream of but very interesting and I would say useful.

Let's put it this way. I'm betting that 60 % of the ' new ' improved Pixel - Google upgrades, I'll never use.
For example, customized icons. You see, I did try, then realized that I didn't recognize the icon

' duh' how many do you have
not many but it supposed to be easy to use. not if you have to think about what you are seeing

Everything they talk about really doesn't matter when you consider that this phone is as fast as you could possibly want or I could want.

And we've already talked about the features in the camera which are just outstanding.
So I think overall I got myself a phone that's going to be useful for the next oh let's say 4 years. But you have to realize that things change so quickly in the electronic world that I'm not even sure that 4 years out that, I'm going to be using this phone which is really sad.

$  $   $ but a solution that will be easy maintenance and cause small to minor difficulties.

How is the ' lets control your weight ' program going. Thus, overall, a gradual downward trend in #. And I am getting used to monitoring the carbohydrate choices.
According to many sources, carbohydrate content is unhealthy for a multitude of reasons. Likely, blood sugar levels and calories lead the way.
On evaluation, a typical day for me did start w/ toast. Peanut butter and honey or tomato on toast or egg on toast

ON TOAST. seemed to have been the problem.

In my defence, the prediliction for toast is genetic and habitual. You could say ' culturally, I'm a ' toast - a - holic' . I am a charter member of TA [ toast lovers anonymous ]

I thought that to appreciate some scene that it is best to share. And there is the danger of taking that view for granted. No one else does. Many have commented on the way the lookout makes them feel.

I suppose that somehow, Remembrance Day or Veteran s Day meant something

However, 3 years ago, we stood in the underground bunker where Winston Churchill stood on the last day ' of the Battle of Britain '. Calling "the morning of September 15, 1940 the Battle of Britain Day, acknowledges that after a months long desperate air struggle between the RAF and the Luftwaffe, something broke.

As we looked up at the " big board " we saw no green lights. You see that morning every fighter was airborne - no reserves.

The Luftwaffe lost so many planes [ and crews ] that the High Command could not envision surviving if they continued.
Thus, the Battle of Britain, ended. The skies over their Island home of Britain were secured !  

Would the ' far flung colonies and member states of the Commonwealth and their allies ' have continued the fight against Germany [ and Italy] ? Who knows !

So, in a self absorbed effort, I'm concentrating on furthering my weight control program. I'm controlling carbs. Especially, bread. Asking beforehand, ' do you really need that '. 
And substituting,

 Matzo crackers. You see, the sale said ' Streitman's Passover Matzos Wafers ' regular $4.99 now ' $ 0.99 '. OK, how cheap can you get ?

The wafers are the sheets of crackers, unleavened and about the flavoufulness of re - constructed sawdust. But if you are going to snack !, Well, less salt [ none ] and very little oil.

Of course, I am hoping to become gleeful and exuberant, as I lose the 5 # [ 10 ? ]. However, for pure health reasons, makes sense.
Did you know that I won't cut out beer ? The thought process says ' cut out everything and you'll quit ' out of frustration.

The day opens w/ clear skies   [ maybe, the window view isn't exatly wide open ]. However, a relatively peaceful day in store.

I bought cushions to accent the new futon cover. I needed to ask a fellow shopper ' what colour is this ' holding up the cushion.
" Well, greenish but subtle " wrong answer. I was specifically told       ' not green '.
However, the nice lady returns as I'm holding up the cushion and says   ' you know, its got a greyish shimmer to it ', yes, I was allowed to buy grey. 
Follow up.
 Firstly, the cushions do not clash. Subtle is the correct term.
And at $ 7 a pillow, take a chance.

Thus, I'm lined up at checkout, standing beside the" impulse buy " shelves. Yes, I pick up ' Soar brand [ huh ? ], wireless mini keyboard ',  another one ?. Yepper. If you can buy subtle greyish pillows then $ 15 for a wireless keyboard - sure !! 

I pre - charged the keyboard and read the instructions.
 Actually, not only wireless but BluTooth. Bonus. No USB key to plug in.

I'm typing on that mini keyboard, now. And its highly functional for me.

 Advantage : to put the tablet screen on the coffee table and keep the typing mechanism on my knee where I'm sitting two feet from the tablet. 

As well, the mini keyboard is thin and light, likely flimsy too ! BUT definitely portable. Convenient. 

Early days, there is plenty of time to find flaws.

In 2003, on retiring, I vowed to start a routine of physical activity that would be suitable and doable for 5 years. The idea was to set a term looking into the future and trying to accomplish that goal.

The outlook is sunny and a bountiful day. There is a flutter of leaves, actually more like rain or a shower.

The fireplace room has really perked up. As I mentioned, not real re - decorating, more like sprucing up. Add a touch of colour, here and there [ I think losing the dark blue w/ stripes, was the ticket ]. Much of our furniture and accessories are 20 yrs plus [ 20 is kinda the benchmark for our lives and belongings ]

The room has light [ full width windows ] however, the furnishings or coverings, do matter. We've proven this change of colour business

News. I have a deep disdain for the news on TV or radio

1. how can there be 24 h news reporting when it is the same story all day

2.No matter the station or channel, if someone does not like or feel that their view is represented then they go to YouTube or social media to get the feed that says what they believe in

3. And 9 times out of 11 there is nothing that you can do about the aftermath or the event

I'm reminded of the movie " News of the World " where in post Civil War America, a crier takes newspapers to small towns and reads the latest reportage [ only 2 weeks old ]. And those folks could do just about as much as I could now

We are changing decor, not re - decorating. The futon in the fireplace room has been serviceable. Firstly, as seating and seldomly as a spare double bed. Originally, the colour matched several items in the room but lately, the room seemed dark or lacking vibrancy.

Our idea was to add white,  black framed screens    [ portable and light ] to add a highlight and be versatilve. Job done. The screens are decorative and useful.

Now, the futon. We ordered a futon cover [ inexpensive and much lighter in colour ]. I measured allowing for mis - reading etc. Well, the cover came [ quickly and as promised ]. Aha, you say ! 

Putting on pantyhose would be easier. The futon mattress was less wide and less long than the actual cover. By dint of desperation, sweat and luck - I managed to single handedly cram that sucker in.
Of course, the cover looks a tad loose, like there was room to spare. Trust me, it is an optical disallusion. That mattress barely got in there

Oh well, job done. AND the result was teriff ! Bright and airy, suits the screens, thank you muchly

The story. While, getting the bassboat launched, the truck s taillight crunched the bow of the boat. The taillight lost. Today, A.. mechanic friend [ get used to it A.. knows everybody ] replaced the light and did an oil change. BTW, that mechanic is a former student of the high school that I taught at. Actually, three fellows in the industrial plaza are ex - students.
