and the banner from Rona not Lehman s :
❄️ It's never too late to get equipped ❄️
So apropos for today 's story line. BTW, Rona was selling generators etc
Yesterday, I was fiddling w/ the phonograph or record player. Three days ago, a friend, S, dropped by and took away 400 LP s that will get digitized. S is building a library of songs and tracks from relatives and others.
Why ? b/c he can..... b/c he is good at it b/c its Covid lockdown ....... dunno
Which segues into today s topic. The belt that drives the turntable stretched or distended years ago - its useless. I tried to fix the situation w/ an elastic band. Semi - successful. I forgot to give S one 45 RPM disc.... it was ' Different Drum ' written by Mike Nesmith < of the Monkees > but more importantly, the first hit for the Stone Poney s and their lead singer. The young singer is Linda Ronstadt.
Thus, re - elastic band the turntable and play the 45. The speed was off. I have tried to buy a replacement drive belt but when available the cost is $ 60 Cdn plus shipping. The total is 75 dollars. A new turntable would be $ 100.
A fellow attendee at the Korner Pub offered to try and find a drive belt in Canada. I was going to look for his email but thought ' first verify the model # etc '. I took a picture of the backplate.
Then noticed, a label that said ' 45 RPM, + - speed. Aha, a way to increase the pitch < speed >. Finally, adjusted the speed. Linda sang out beautifully.
So not a paperclip but an elastic band
" earth stood hard as iron
water like a stone " to recognize the bloody colditity here. by Christina Rosetti - sister to Dante Rosetti < or Dante, to most folks >. Later set to music by Gustaf Holtz
Follow up. I've ordered a new belt drive from Las Vegas by air. The cost is $40. The gent from the pub came up w/ the supplier. So thnx PR
